Looking for information on Syerston QFIs

I am trying to find the whereabouts of the following officers:-

Flt Lt JR Sadler
Flt Lt DTJ Collinson DFC - 2 FTS B Flt No 1 Sqn
Flt Lt PJ Gooding Deputy Flight Commander - 2 FTS D Flt No 2 Sqn

From scouring hundreds of F540s I believe that they were QFIs at Syerston from at least early - mid 1967 to 17 January 1970 when they may have been posted to RAF Leeming

Any help, factual, anecdotal or giving advice how to further contact would
be very gratefully received.

Thank you

It would seem that it's not Flt Lt Gooding I seek but Flt Lt Goodman. I have no initals, at this time and apologise for the bad lead

Flt Lt Gooding will be of interest in the future but for the current project it's Flt Lt Goodman

They were certainly all QFIs at Syerston when I trained there - '69-'70. The other first names which you don't seem to have (or have not posted) were Dave Collinson and Tony Goodman.

From memory Tony Goodman was the only one I flew with - without checking logbook Vol 1 I think I did my JP IRT with him.

Collinson's DFC was as a Whirlwind pilot in the far east - Borneo I think.

TTH,

Borneo 1965 certainly! Collinson was on 225 Sqn and together with Hugh B [email protected] (who was sent to Borneo in place of a Cranwell 'Sword of Honour' cadet who had been court martialled and sent to prison and hence was not available), picked up the members of an SAS patrol.

The patrol had been ambushed over the border and two men severely injured. One was rescued fairly quickly but the other took several days to extract and required some 'nifty' flying, including reversing a Whirlwind under some trees. Collinson was awarded the DFC and HBL a Mention in Despatches.

Sometime later, I flew with Colinson as his crewman and took various 'snappy snappies', including refuelling at a place called Long Somado. It was only when the film was developed that I realised that - there we were at a jungle airstrip - and Collinson was wearing SD shoes!

Flt Lieut Peter Goodman

Peter is my older brother and
was a QFI at Church Fenton
in the early 1960s. Could he be the one you are looking for? He was OC of 208 sqdn
and later 32 sqdn at Northolt
in Harold Wilsons and then
Maggie Thatchers time.
