Rainboe

What's happened to the poster, Rainboe? He was an avid contributor to PPRuNe (usually posting several times a day) but suddenly disappeared two months ago! I hope he's OK.

Liked to have the final say a lot, appeared arrogant at times; often rubbed people up the wrong way. Probably banned!

Although he had character. Overall his inputs would be missed

Look on the bright side, Shack - I am reliably informed that world-wide stocks of !!! are beginning to recover to a point where they may be self-sustaining!!

Must admit I did have a feeling he may have been banned. He liked to fly close to the wind! I used to wonder if he was a proper pilot, or just a microsoft one who studied theory really well. Airline pilots are usually calm and collected (necessity of the job) but he did seem to explode like a volcano in almost every post. It was entertaining, but his blood pressure must have been on a constant high! And I wouldn't want a pilot with hypertension and an inability to control his sudden outbursts to fly ME round the planet.

All the same, he was entertaining to read, I suppose he's now taking his anger out on his rhodendendruns instead.

Rainboe was / is a commercial pilot. I shared a conversion course with him onto the B757, though I did not know his PPRuNe identity until after we had parted company.

Forthright yes, but I always thought quite thought provoking - not necessarily a bad thing.

I hope he is okay.

This is from a post by Mice, June 10th, 2000.

The biggest problem seems to be the delay in finding a satisfactory replacement product that is as efficient as Rainboe.

It is apt if not quite specific in its application.

It would be pleasant to read his acerbic and knowledgable prose again but I rather suspect that the professional aviation quality of PPRuNe has deteriorated so much recently that he might have departed these pages. He always wanted to find a blog that was only for active flight crew where matters of great enterprise and moment might be discussed. I hope that wherever he is, Rainboe does not feel that we are beneath him. But I wouldn't bet the canister of noxious lemon flavoured rain repellent on it.

And in the case you had forgotten how excellent he was:::::

All the same, he was entertaining to read, I suppose he's now taking his anger out on his rhodendendruns instead.

I remind you please that the word you are trying to spell comes from the Greek and is spelt thus:

RHODODENDRON

Rainboe is alive and well and still flying for AEU. He pops up on our forum at BALPA from time to time but doubt you will see much of him here.

Rainboe is an experienced, and respected pilot. I have known him for over 35 years, having first flown with him on the VC10.

His views have always been interesting although he did upset some people. I believe that a couple of his final posts, which involved personal attacks, were probably rather OTT. It would not surprise me if he had been banned for this.

Dave

PS I agree with Basil about the effectiveness of Rainboe. A savior during the Indian Monsoon.

PPS For those who were not around at the time, Rainboe was a rain-repellent fluid that was banned as it was found to be Toxic. Rather Ironic????

I think he was temporarily banned for the posts that Airclues refers to and, when allowed back in, made a number of rather strange posts (subsequently removed) one evening which, amongst other things, said he was withdrawing from the fray...

Pity, I generally enjoyed and appreciated his contributions.

One was perusing the forums that very night and Uncle Rainboe posted in almost every forum, even featuring in a thread that i had started.... He seemed to be, shall we say 'tired and emotional' in a nice way and posted an amusing picture of Kevin the snowman inflagrante with, one presumes Mrs Snowman He seemed to have had enough and was going off to enjoy his toys in the sun. I found him to be equal measures obnoxious/interesting/rational. Characters are always missed.

The Return of the Rainboe!
Sounds good does it not? Something out of the Dashiel Hammett novel.
I never found the prismatic one to be obnoxious but he did not, how do you say it so well, gladly suffer fools.
Personally speaking I would really welcome him back but I am afraid that PPRuNe is not professional enough for him.......although at one time I hoped that he was going to be made a moderator. His communication skills were of the first order.

Oh, Hammer! For a wonderful moment I thought you were he - Rainboe himself! You're a fabulous mimick!

It's somewhat a shame he was unable to control those tantrums of his; when he was calmed he offered very good advice and came out with much thought provoking statements. I'm sure he is missing us as much as we all miss him.

But I can well imagine him flipping and getting himself banned. He reminded me of a good old English eccentric who looked down over his reading glasses at anyone and everyone he thought was a twit. I remember how inflamed with rage he became when a member (Big Blue Eyes?) innocently asked on one of the general boards if airline pilots no longer had to retire at 55. Rainboe went berserk! He accused BBE of being a 'snooping ex-wife' after her ex-husband's PENSION! He really tore into her......accusing her of allsorts! Fortunately, another member came along and diffused the situation Rainboe had created...........but it did lead some to believe that Mr Rainboe had a first wife somewhere - and he was MOST outraged to think she'd get her claws on his pension sooner than he anticipated!

Oh, he was SUCH a character!

You hoped he would be "made" a moderator? Are you serious? I have never read anyone less moderate in my life. Rainboe's biggest problem of many was the smugness of his own opinion. Just because he had x amount of decades of experience did not give him the right to berate everyone else. I didn't find him a "character" at all. Just an angry frustrated self-righteous person who would find himself standing on his own at the bar if he spoke to everyone like that in person.

If only 411A would perform the same vanishing act.

I think the last straw for Rainboe was some of the quite outrageous stuff that was posted on the thread concerning the Captain who off-loaded the Purser in Miami and then continued to destination, then along came Mr Snowman, several times!

I agree that PPRuNe is now unrecognisable compared to its earlier heydays, which is a great shame as the change has largely been brought about by the postings of the ever increasing number of pax who think the crew are there for them to wipe their feet on, or the incessant crap posted on serious threads by wannabes and FliteSim specialists and has driven several very eloquent and knowledgeable posters away, possibly Rainbow included?

That's a shame, Parabellum.................Rainboe is sorely missed.

Would you kindly give me the link to the thread where the captain off-loaded the purser?

Many thanks.

There is a wonderbul scene in Sergei Eisenstein's Ivan the Terrible, when Ivan awaits the citizens of Moscow to recall him from the monastery where he has taken the umbrage at offences caused to his dignity - and the music!!!
I do not for the one moment imply that Rainboe is Ivan the Terrible nor that Ppruners march across the ice to beg him to return. But after the reading of the link which parabellum so niely posted, I am disgusted that digusted of Tonbridge was ever disgusted.

DaH It is disgusted of Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge is another place just up the road from Tunbridge Wells. Yes confusing to strangers I know.

Rainboe had just disgusted of Tunbridge under his name. I PM'd him to inform him it had to include Wells!! Pedantic I know and he chose to ignore it and continued with just Tunbridge. Clearly he did not like to be put right.
