Thanks for this info. Sorry to hear about his health. Do you have any contact details for him? If so, please PM me. Thanks again. Tom

Rhys and X1FTS

The way Juliet58 worded their post it seems to me that it is Andy himself, whom I remember being a 'co' on one of the other squadrons at Lyneham - not 30, which I was then on ( 69-73 ).

If it is you Andy I recall seeing you visiting the tower at LHR when my watch was on ( early 90s? ) - I think you knew some of the guys from Air Tattoo days.

IIRC Andy won a court case against the insurance company that provided the Loss of Licence scheme for his former airline - the same one that provided ours ( NATS ) - they got quite a rollocking from the judge according to the report in the papers!

Before "happy hollow" closes down and becomes a housing estate is there any enthusiasm for a reunion for those sadistic instructors at the station?

One of the happiest tours for me and my dalmatian, reputed to be a better instructor than me.

I was a QFI there in the mid 70's and would be interested. I am sure that if I looked hard enough in the mess bar, I might even find some of the brains I left there on occasion.

Mind you, given the time lapse, I wonder if there is enough parking space for the wheel chairs and zimmer frames - they may even have to order some defibs.

Hi Rhys,

I flew with Andy Walton in Airtours around 94/95 on the 757.

In 1997 my twin girls were born. They are now both flying the Grob Tutor in the University Air Squadron at Linton. Loving every minute of it.

Sadly, my 20 years on the 757/767 are over and I'm flying an A321.

All the best,

Mike Bird

You've got the right bloke there Brian, I stayed with the Hercules for 7 years and did become enmeshed with the International Air Tattoo as a volunteer and consequently with some of your colleagues at LHR Air Traffic Control. It did lead to some memorable liaison visits between your unit and the crews at Northolt where I spent my last tour (83-87). You are also correct about having to resort to legal action after my flying career ended prematurely, thanks to BALPA support my case went via Employment tribunal to the High Court and eventually the Court of Appeal. I would have preferred to see my time through and retire normally, but at least the insurance payout helped considerably.

763 jock. I commiserate with you having to leave two of Boeing's finest behind, nice of you to remember me after so long. All success to your daughters, you must be a very proud Dad.

Sycamore. Oh yes indeed I do recall that attempt to accomodate the wishes of our VVIP passenger. It seemed such a good idea at the time but instead it may have qualified for inclusion in the "I learnt about flying" series in Air Clues.

X1FTS. Good to know you're still about as well, please do give me a call on 07714 089199. Can't do a PM as I haven't built up enough posts yet.

Finally my apologies for taking so long to respond to the posts in this thread, I don't frequent these pages as often as i obviously should.
