interocean airways

are you talking about the Interocean Airways that found their real strenth in Beira?
Really started in Zim, Tony brought it to South Afriica . I then, put them solidly on the map with, Capt Graham Patterson using their DC 6 . He moved 1000tons of maize between Lilongwe and Tete. As a result of this success ,they moved into Beira. Andrew Smulian is in the news under " The man who armed the world" see PPRuNe. see" freight dogs".
Some of the boys are still around

Indeed, I am talking about the Beira operation. I was an engineer there in the late 80's.

Good bunch of people. Had loads of fun there.

Where is the "Phant" (GP) these days?

Wow, those names bring back some memories, almost half now dead.

Bullet holes in "Little Annie"

"Highway Hennie" flying in sandals swimming trunks and tee shirt.

Chuabo in Quelimane, Dom Carlos in Beira

Spiriling down over airfields

Soldiers in ragged uniforms with old AK 47s

Ancient MIGs, Hinds, MI8s, Antanov 26s

Decrepit LAM B737-200s with big patches of metal rivited to them

Piri Peri chicken, soupa de legumas, prawns, pudem de ovos

Smell of Beira

Ladies of the night hanging around the expat bars

Miles of beautiful deserted beaches, coconut trees

Decay everywhere

Still miss it a bit

3H-ATH

I am researching the history of C-47 OO-VDF, once the pride of the young Delta Air Transport airline in Antwerp/Belgium airport on behalf of the Stampe aviation museum located at Antwerp airport (see our site). We have a 6ft scale model of the aircraft sporting the DAT colors and are nof iluustrationg its career. After flown for various owners, old VDF came to Interocean as C9-ATH, changing later to 3D-ATH, and was damaged bejond repair in Mbuyi-Maji DR Congo. There she still lies in the African sun.

I am looking for any detail and/or pictures in de Interocean life (or previous !) of our beloved VDF. Crewmembers ? Technicians ? Story of her last flight ? Etc.

Her memory makes an old guy like me soft... Can anyone help ?

Some of those names give me goosebumps. Marnix, Andre Balt!

Smullian - so likeable.

Noel Elliot-Wilson's name not on that list. I attended his funeral, too.

3D-ATH

3D-ATH had a former career in Caprivi airways as N9607. Later she flew for African Air Carriers and Interocean as C9-ATH. I am looking for pictures of that periode. Can anybody help or give a hint ?

Does anybody has details on Flying Enterprises from Carson city/Nevada/USA who bought and sold this machine ?

N9607 Dc3

Owned by Urban (BEN) DREW who formed Caprivi Airways after operating in The Sudan on the Kenana Sugar project.. his chf pilot was (Monty) Burton who would have flown this aircraft and others....both Ben and Monty are long gone but I think Will Pascal (UK rep) may still be around....

I flew the Kenana contract for a couple of months in early '81 on their own DC-3 ST-AHK while their CP went on a well earned break. After a short while (and after he'd come back) we grounded it due to lack of decent oil pressure after TOC RPM reduction. 2 years of Sudan operation with no sand filters had literally worn the engines out prematurely. I did hear it never flew again, and they resorted to "desert buses" to run between Kenana and Khartoum. So, was Ben Drew's Kenana operation before they bought their own DC-3, (and boy were they sold a bag of old nails, no names, you know who you are), or after?
Spent the rest of the contract driving massive sugar cane trucks just for fun. Life at Kenana was a real ball.

3D-ATH extra

Oeps !

Mistyped former registration of C9-ATH/3D-ATH... Must be N6907.

Sorry
