New FAA certificates

I recently read about the FAA issuing new security improved Airman certificates with its seal on them to some 950000 active pilots.

Anyone got more info about this ?

Will US pilots flying outside the States benefit from such move as well ?

Thanks in Advance

To be issued only if original is lost, and a replacement is requested, or...
new category/class/type rating issued.

Will be mailed directly from Oklahoma City to most any foreign location, provided the holder has the proper mailing address on file.

You can request to receive one of the NEW certificates from the FAA. At the EAA airshow in OSH you could had filled out the paperwork listing your certifications (I'm only CTO certified) and received the new certificate at no charge.

Interesting. Anyone got a link to a picture of the cert? Does it look any better than the cereal box version?

No picture I'm told. But it will be plastic like a credit card instead of cardboard. Seems a shame to go all that trouble to not include a photo on them.

THey will be issued for all new licenses & for anyone upgrading an existing license or requesting a replacement certificate.

I know I plan to get one.

By the way... who goes to OSHKOSH to do paperwork?

Check out the AOPA.org website - I believe they have posted a piccie.

Seems a sensible step, as the existing "do it yerself jobbies" look as impressive as a buy one get one free coupon.

They look pretty cool but the Wright Brothers on the back looks cheesy. Any word of when they will be available?

I'm surprised that they got away with this.... considering the new airport security procedures, this appears to be a wasted opportunity..........

Got mine a week ago... I found them to be "lowest bidder" job... they look nice, but appear cheaply done... Tho, much better than the old stuff.

Picture? Well, it seems that would have been too much work for them... And just a thought of using DMV pics... are we asking too much here?

You have to have a picture ID accompany the certificate instead...

Hi guys,

Damn i d like to go back to the states..

Anyways, you should see the JAA ATPL licences...that looks like a licence ,bigger than a passport, you can add your pic and your whole family in there..I still have my FAA ATPL as a very good souvenir of making holes above the midwest with my metro3...just great fun
Id kill to have a job based in Boston(my fav city)..need a green card though as my sponsored H1 has gone into smokes..

Tailwinds to all you Americans and fellow pilots.

If someone had a chance to scan the new licence to have a better idea and share the picture on the forum, that would be great.

I didn't want to have to be the one...

...to say so, but Eaglejet, if you would just scroll up five posts above your first request you'd actually see a scanned image of the new certs!

Good luck!

What about multicrew aircraft, does this new certificate prove that you are qualified to sit in the right seat of an aircraft?
