UK CAA to FAA

UK CAA to FAA

Hello everyone,

I currently work for an airline here in the UK with around 600 hours so far. I would be very interested in potentially working in the US in a couple years time when I reach the 1500 hours. Could someone help me understand the process of converting from UK CAA to FAA?
Someone at my current job mentioned an E-3 visa to me, which I could qualify for as I am an Australian citizen. Does anyone have any experience with this, and US airlines sponsoring people?

Conversion is easy.
1) ATP CTP course.
2) Study 2-3 days
3) Take the ATP written exam
4) Do a type rating and it will include your ATP check.

A few years ago when they were desperate all you needed were the 1500 hours and the airline were paying for everything else.

Australian pilots can work for US regionals.

maisrnjj,

rudestuff laid out the plan clearly.

But it appears the E-3 visa ship has sailed at least for any foreseeable future. So while you can keep your eye on it, don't make any plans on it being a viable option for you. The biggest hurdle will be just getting the legal ability to live/work in the USA.

Or are there some extra steps do you know?
