FAA medical expiring

Hello
Have the following question. My son did the initial FAA medical class 1 last dec ( 2015) as he planned to start his heli training in the USA. This is postponed now until further.
For how long can he let the class medical expired before he needs to do the initial all over again.

It depends on how old your son is. I'll guess he's less than 40 years old. In that case after 12 months his first class defaults to a third class for another 48 months. That is all that is required for training and the checkride.
