airline hirings

Hello all, as I'm nearing the end of a 20yr military career, I'm looking at potential airlines to begin my second life. is it possible in this day and age to be hired on by a company as a FO on the 747-4/8 (specifically cargo) and be based out of KLAX or anywhere in the U.S.? or is that vision so narrow in scope that it's a virtual impossibility? Cathay and Atlas come to mind. any insight would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.

Very good. I agree, try Atlas. They don't have an LAX base, though.

I would suggest casting a wider net at first, followed by B747 operators. A regional job based out of KLAX or preferred base might be a good start as a civilian transition and for currency while you wait for the B747. If you are lucky you will go straight to the B747. Many ACMI operators offer home basing but be prepared to live out of your suitcase for 15-17 days of the month.

Also try Kalitta and Southern Air. They both allow you to be home based.

You can do better, look to a legacy. Legacies are hiring most of the military retired pilots they can find. A friend went from AD to DAL B737 FO in six months.
