Arrow Alaska attempts to cap aviation insurance liability.

The Alaska legislature is attempting to cap liability in the event of an accident. Whilst I think the notion certainly has merit, I do not believe these caps are particularly viable. The Bill caps punitive damages for both the passenger claim against the operator AND the operator claim against the manufacturer! The most recent increase in insurance rates has sent many operators running for the door, and for many one additional claim may push them ove rthe edge.

My take on this, is the customer will elect to fly on the larger carriers, as they will offer better coverage in the event of an accident (maybe a safer flight anyway?).

I don't think it will go very far as currently proposed - but who knows? It has passed the House, but now faces the Senate (AK legislature).
