SACAA Com to FAA ATP
I'm currently busy with the initial training for the Beechjet 400A/Nextant 400XT at CAE Simuflight DFW. I currently have a South African Commercial License, My South African license has been validated by the FAA already and all TSA clearance received. How and where can I do my written ATP exam so that I can do my FAA ATP test when i do my final check ride at CAE on the beechjet?

Ask Simuflight. They should be able to help. Otherwise, phone any flying school and ask. The exam is done via one of two commercial exam services on a computer. There'll be a few agents in the area that can do it.

The Great Firewall isn't letting me pull up the FAA web page. There used to be a testing center at the Arlington airport, straight down SH 360 to 20 and then west a couple exits. Also one over at FTW. One used to show up on the FAA list in Irving, not at an airport, but their phone number is no longer working so I don't know their status. Google FFA Testing Centers and you'll get the web pages of the two companies the FAA contracts for testing, CATS and someone else. Give me a couple hours to get to civilization and I'll pull up some links.

Yeah, they're all going to want you to schedule in advance. Looks like there are a couple down at Arlington, a couple down over at FTW and three at ADS. Arlington Airport will most likely be the closest if you're staying at any of the DFW hotels.

I would guess you do but it never hurts to double check against FAR 61.159. Your logbook is going to look funny to the examiner and they will want see all the sub totals, 100 hours night, 25 night PIC, etc. I don't know if you have PICUS, you might have to explain how that translates into American.

Sort of begs the entirely irrelevant question as to why with 6,000 hours one only has a South African Commercial Licence while flying in South Africa. That raises the interesting question as to whether the South African CAA will recognise an FAA ATP and upgrade a South African Commercial Licence to a South African ATP licence thus sidestepping the South African ATP examinations which are extremely unpleasant and which should, of course, be avoided.
