Post A PPRuNe Roving Party

On Friday next, 25th January, Myself, Capt.PPRuNe and our able-bodied assistant Aztruck, will be ferrying a 757 from Shannon , via BAngor to Kingman Arizona.

The Bangor stop is Customs,Immigration and refuel. We expect to get to Kingman around 2pm local time, followed by a quick trip down to LA.. .We leave LA for London on the evening of the 26th.

So

1) anyone got any inside knowledge of Kingman. .2 Anyone in the LA area on the night of the 25th fancy buying some tourists a beer

Edited due to poor geography...see below

Kingman is a typical 'middle of nowhere' aircraft . .graveyard on the old route 66 in Arizona not Nevada.

If you will have a car, consider dropping in at either Laughlin, NV (there is a lot of life in that casino town), or maybe even Las Vegas. It doesn't sound like you have time for skiing.

Have a meal at the airport cafe, superb food...and cold beers I think.. .Be SURE of your reservations....the flights at KIGM are....sometimes cancelled without notice.. .Without fail, have a backup plan.

We're planning to be collected by a friend of Aztruck's in his Cessna 421, and flown to the LA area.

Thanks for the info though.

Hamrah - Hope you know that when you say "LA aea" you are talking about approx 10 THOUSAND SQ Miles of "area". Assume your very nice taxi will put you down within one (1) hours drive of LAX, which would be 30 road miles (like LGB maybe). Would need a rent car as taxis are very expensive. Plenty to do within half hour ride from LAX. PLay poker or watch a totally "visible" show (I have only HEARD about these show places - I refuse to answer any more questions <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> though.). Believe it or not, a very good restaurant is at LAX atop of the "dome" between the terminals. PLease allow 2-3 hours to clear out-bound security. Kingman-AZ is easy to find, Turn heading 180 at Bryce Canyon cross the Grand Canyon and look ahead - there it is. If you see any other habitation for 100 miles around then you missed Kingman. Welcome to the USA. ps - if you fly to LAX via VFR then may God Have Mercy on Your Soul. I did not know you were both an old AND a BOLD pilot to fly into LAX VFR! I wouldn't do it except IFR and ATC. Oh yes, professional basketball (Lakers) play about 10 minutes away. Also the horse track a few blocks from the Lakers has a casino I believe. PLease take a digital camera for pics of your visit. dAAvid -
