The Canadians may be able to work without the "green card" through the North American Free Trade Agreement between USA Mexico and Canada.
The availability of pilots in USA has not gotten to the point where the major carriers will be hiring foreign pilots without greencards. That isn't to say it won't be happening soon as some of the smaller carriers are advertising similar, but not with promises to foreign pilots.

Yes.
Average civilian new hire has 4000hrs. 500-1000hrs PIC turbine.
The application states you must have, "right to work."
They currently have 7000 apps on file.
I have a buddy who is 26yrs old. Typed and currently flying the 757 for ATA. 5500hrs+, 4yrs of 121 experience with a recommendation from a line Capt. at UA and is number 4000 on the list to be interviewed.
Whoever started this rumor concerning non- US nationals or non-permanent US residents being hired, is smoking crack.
Think about it. We have 1000s of pilots here who fly for the regionals. Skywest, American Eagle, Comair, ASA to name just a few!!!!!!!!
We also have 1000s of corporate jet pilots. Pilots who fly at the nationals. Spirit, Airtran, Sun Country, National Airlines.
If you don't hold a green card, don't hold your breath.

Fogrunner. Does your buddy have PIC time experience in an airline ? Does he have a degree ?
They are looking for PIC experience in any kind of airplane (of cours jet is better).
If your friend could get that experience I am sure he would go up the list very quickly.
If he does have this experience then don't tell me there's not something wrong in the selection process.
The problem is, you can be down the list because of a stupid item, but of course you don't know about it so how can you improve ?
