The cheaper ones seem to do the best for multi-region. I bought mine for less than $30 at the local Sears and it will even play home-recorded DVDs from the UK - something my friend's high-end one wouldn't do (it just posted an "incorrect region" message). Actual model I have is a CyberHome CH-DVD 300 it plays DVDs, CDs, MP3, JPeg (like Kodak Discs) and Video-CDs.

Virtually all DVD players can be cracked via inputs into the remote.
