TSA CAT IV approval
Planning on reinstating previous CFI/II and MEI privileges during vacation in US.
For this (evidently) you need a "cat IV" approval.
What is it?
How do you get it?
Anyone....?

I would suggest that you need a category 3 approval not cat 4. Category 3 is for training on all aircraft with a mgtow of 12500lbs or less. I imagine you are doing your cfi etc in a small piston aircraft of some type.
Category 4 is for someone doing training on a large aircraft in which they are current and qualified in. There is no procedure on the TSA website for that.

TSA
Hello,
According to the AOPA internet site, for less than 12 500 lbs, TSA flight training definition is recreational, sport, private, instrument and multiengine. Therefore, my understanding is that for a CFII and MEI you don't need a TSA investigation. Check with the AOPA, because they seems to have achieved this with the TSA.
Take care, good luck

You will just register as a Cat 4 candidate(Category 4 - Candidates who are current and qualified on the aircraft for which they are requesting training. ), thats all you have to do and its free, you already hold the licence and rating, you are just getting it recurrent so this is the one for you.
Like the site says "If you are a flight training candidate who qualified for Category 4, please contact your flight school for further instructions"
