Recent Southwest Interviewees

Is anyone getting SWA interviews without 737 type-ratings in the last few months?

SWA has recently started interviewing applicants without B737 type ratings. I am not a SWA employee but I can say with some certainty that about 30 percent of those who interview don't have types. Even so conditions remain very competitive at SWA, on average only about 3 in 12 are hired.

Most have either very high flight time, are Line Check Airman or both. LCAs that have been called have about 6000 TT and 4000 PIC turbine. Once you're offered a position you have 6 months to attain the rating and only then are you placed in the pool. Wait times for a class are running about 4 months.

Hope this helps.

www.flightinfo.com would be a good source of info if you haven't been there yet. Tons & tons & tons of SWA input. Good luck in the hunt...

I have a friend who just got his notice that he was hired by SWA. He does not have his type yet. So they are actually hiring people without types. He has somewhere around 6000 TT with about 2500 turbine pic.

I have heard that a 4 year degree is required for Southwest and the majors??? Is this correct??? Is this a "set-in-stone" requirement?

No requirement now for type at SWA, and several have been hired recently without one. Additionally, they DO NOT require a 4 year degree, nor does JetBlue. FedEx still firmly holds to the requirement for a degree, however.

No, they don't. Not firmly.
