As a long retired flight deck for one of these two Companies under discussion, I would have thought there were many more important factors to discuss when selecting between the two, rather than Staff travel. An added on perk is useful but not vital surely?

The easyJet staff travel is brilliant. Can travel anywhere across the network, unlimited times, for not much more than £30-£40 each way, plus £5 a bag.

I believe there's only one airline in the world who refer to their pilots as 'flight deck' so I think I've solved the riddle :8

This will make the thread interesting. Any guys at EZY LGW, would you leave for Jet2?

Wow….that would take a lot of justifying for the loss of £25k per year, the loss of a fixed pattern roster and the loss of a “semi-decent” staff travel system.

Although…the culture and local management will likely be better!

I wouldn't count on it :hmm:

They might attract some guys from Wizz and BA EF. Unless they significantly outpace easyJet on pay they will struggle to attract anyone across.

Emirates now taking applications from A320 Captains for DEC A350. This may take a few A320 Captains out of the UK market.

Considering there is 190 comments discussing this matter, it appears it isn’t that straight forward

think it’s pretty straightforward for anyone currently year 10 at easy.

the topic is really a discussion around someone joining from a third airline deciding which is best for them.

Was with EZY for 15 years. Wouldn't ever say anything bad about them. They gave me many opportunities.

With J2 now almost 3 years. I work FAR less. Am far less stressed, spend far more time at home. I don't miss the fixed pattern at all as it was inflexible with regard to getting days off if they fell in a work pattern. Staff travel was ok, yes.

As with everything in this job, what suits one will not suit another. If you want lots of flying and to build hours, go orange. If you want less flying and more time at home go red. My thoughts having worked for both.

No, it will not.

You must know who the local management will be already. Which is strange because the position of pilot base manager has just been advertised. Come on, tell us who it is.

Durggypilot 9th February 2026 11:21

Hi, I am wondering what is the average flying hours at J2 for FO? I know at EZY they work everyone very hard. And what is the averge flight/ duty pay per year?

Chesty Morgan 9th February 2026 12:32

It varies between bases. A bigger base like MAN or STN might be 6-700/year versus a proper (and more illustrious) base which would be 5-600. Maybe. Ish. Too many variables to be more precise than that.

During my time in the RHS I used to work off about 5k of sector/duty pay over a financial year. Obviously majority of that is earned between May/October for most guys.

The worst bit about EZY LGW is long and late 2 sectors down to Greece and Turkey. Every time I'm down in Dalaman at midnight it's us surrounded by 5+ Jet2s. No thanks. The 'holiday' type flight is the least tolerable part of what we do.

thanks, how many hours do you fly per year then? If someone joins at 78% what’re the hours you fly per year?
