I’d imagine they are desperate for captains - poor pay and awful roster

BAEF if I recall is up for a new pay deal in Jan 2026

Anyone has info on what that pay deal might look like? Thanks.

NTR RHS HOLDPOOL

Anyone had any updates as to start dates past Feb/March? Wasn’t one of the lucky ones and was wondering if anyone had heard about start dates further into the year.

RudderTrimZero 21st May 2026 14:00

Applied for TR DEC.

Is there still a hold pool? (find it hard to believe given the non-stop recruitment)
How's the general mood?
Summer rostering still 80+ hrs per month May to October?
Any changes to the mainline seniority rules?
LTC opportunities within a year or two of joining?

Thanks

TR DEC sim is carried out with TRI in the RHS and has a technical element requiring failure management, along with manual handling exercises.

AFAIK no hold pool, mood generally good with the vast majority happy with where they are and not looking for a jump up the road. Summer rostering varies, rostering targets for July 69hrs for Captain, typically with a few reserves/availables thrown in - potentially increasing hours to 90+ if used. No changes to ML MSL but expect to complete a 3 year BAEF freeze before a move to LHR is offered. LTC applications open currently for immediate and hold pool, but new opportunities typically arise after 12-24 months due TRI/TRE upgrades or training transfers to LHR.

Source? Fixed pattern roster (5/4 5/3 5/2 in various different rotations all viewable for the year ahead) and pay very close to mainline (admittedly due to higher flying pay supplement). It might not be ideal but it's not as you describe.

The merits of BAEF (and mainline) vs easyJet vs jet2 has already been discussed on other threads so don’t want to reopen that discussion. But the proposed pay deal would see BAEF starting salary at £130k (+15% company pension contributions). If that still counts as modern slavery then you can move up the pay bands and one day be a proper Nigel on a £200k+ salary.

Also I think you need to compare a typical roster flown not the number of fixed days off. Not sure about Jet2 but comparing BAEF and Easy LGW summer rosters, the BAEF ones are better.

The base figures are just that - £27pbh and £2.93pdh with a target of 800hrs per year make up to a fairly competitive yearly salary IMO. PCS (I'm sure it's been discussed elsewhere in this forum) was looking to move a lot of that variable pay into basic, but obviously hasn't been voted in.

Plus as somebody mentioned above, 6% employer 15% company into pension will be hard to match elsewhere, plus staff travel in first class (DECs) ((when the flight isn't overbooked! :{)) make up for some pretty decent perks when they work. I'm not sitting here pretending it's all roses, but I think an accurate depiction is fair for people considering an application.

Good luck to anyone applying , but still maintain having to fly so much to get anywhere near some of the others isn’t ideal .

Ryanair TCs are better for being flogged to death .

A look at June rosters show nobody has a 4 sector day. Nevermind 6 sectors which exist in some FR bases. The 2 places would be galaxies apart.

There is also no nonsenical 25 minute turnaround with the constant pressure of feeling behind. Certainly no 12 hr days as a standard. And .. the CEO doesnt appear on TV every now and again telling the public you're overpaid and only work 18 hrs a week.
