I understand the annual fleet bids have yet to be processed.

So it's all idle speculation until that's known.

50% part time AND 6 weeks leave?! No wonder BMI was losing £xxxxxxxx's! :ugh:

The way I understand it, the BMI pilots have a choice. Either sign the compromise agreement and integrate voluntarily or choose to stay in the "bubble". It remains to be seen exactly what percentage of people choose those options but it was inevitable that some people would choose to remain seperate. I suspect they will be in the minority and will feel increasingly marginalised. Eventually this may well result in discussions with management along the lines of, "Do you really feel BA is for you given your deliberate choice to remain seperate?" The option to integrate exists and that is what the latest negotiations were about - providing that option.

This means that BA pilots who gave up 2 days leave a year and 10% productivity changes in order to save their (BMI pilots) jobs
Thats a pretty bad misrepresentation of a completely seperate issue. If we're honest, BA pilots voted to give up leave/provide productivity increases to avoid the creation of a "BA express" operation at Heathrow which would have directly impacted their own job security/career progression. In that sense it was an entirely selfish dilemma and had little to do with what was best or worst for bmi pilots (in reality this was probably a better outcome for them as at least they are now afforded TUPE protection).

Finally, there was no suggestion that a no vote would have resulted in bmi job loses, just a stand-alone operation within IAG.

Can part-time BA pilots opt to transfer to the BMI 'bubble' T&Cs - They sound great?

Back on Topic

Can we please get this back on topic, any news on recruitment for a few before the March 2013 date. There are still a lot of individuals waiting in the hold pool or for sim who would be very interested....

The annual pilot bidding process, called PRIAM, that allows pilots to indicate what their aspirations are for the coming year closed on the 10th. This process allows pilots to request part time, for life style or pre retirement rundown reasons.

This allows BA to workout how many full time equivalent pilots it will have in the coming year. This is then married up to the amount of work (schedule) it is planning for next year on each specific aircraft type.

An example of this would be 2 x 747 capts going to 50% working releasing 1 full time 747 capt position. The companies most senior non 747 capt (this could be a SFO) who had requested a 747 capt position would then take that slot releasing his position. This backfilling process continues down the seniority chain until no-one wants what is left, usually a short haul FO slot.

When this process is complete for everybody, BA will know how many slots they have to fill. These bid results are expected by beginning of Oct.

In the meantime BA might might decide that they are anticipating so much expansion that they know they will definitely need more pilots and so open recruitment or start taking from the pool. However government stats show that the economy is in a dire state but the loads onboard my ac seem good and some routes are chocka so who knows the overall picture.

I'll wager it won't be good news for us, I've already prepared myself mentally. :(

Please lets not forget the fact that people who applied in 2008 had to re-apply in 2010-2011 if they were still interested. It's just the way they have decided to operate their selection scheme. Some may agree with it and some may disagree, but the bottom line is that's the rules!
