Are Flybe about to open recruitment?
Having just received, like, I am sure, many others, an email asking me to update my profile on the Flybe online application site, I am pondering the above question.
Any rumours as to whether recruiting is about to start, or whether this is simply a purging of the system? Next obvious question: if they start recruiting, who for? Cadets? Type rated? Experienced non TR? DEC? :hmm: |
As Lineup N Wait says, it would be for FOs onto the Q400. No DEC recruitment for a long time I wouldn't imagine. Flybe take on any level of experience from cadet upwards and so anybody is free to apply and there is no bias toward low hours people (as far as DEPs are concerned).
|
Thanks for the replies. Is the constant trickle to which you refer a similar mix of experience or just mpl cadets?
|
I was told by a well-connected colleague that we have a requirement for F/Os at short notice that precludes some in the hold pool (3 months' required with their current employers) and that would likely trigger some guys to be called.
I'd expect recruitment to pick up soonish as, despite the economy, several senior F/Os (both fleets) and junior skippers (mostly Dash) are bound for pastures new. |
Cadet recruitment has been constant for a number of years now, for both CPL and MPL courses. There has been a very small amount of DE FO recruitment for specific vacancies and there will continue to be a small amount more, so far for experienced crew or ex-mil.
Holding pools will be refreshed periodically as potential candidates' availability and details change for a number of reasons. |
There's more recruitment happening than that. It is first through the recommendation system attached to the Flybe affiliated flight schools, all pre-command sim assessments not in the system are to be postponed due to forward sim availability. 4 airframes need crewing, and we are already about 20-30 F/Os short. 4 airframes will equate to about 18 f/o's and 18 captains. This means 36 f/o's if they upgrade the captain slots. I heard numbers are unknown at present but it's going to be slightly more than a trickle.
|
Watch this space, all will become clear when the next round of bidding opens up no doubt!
|
3 new courses pencilled in for the next few months, plenty more to come I'm sure.
|
Just out of interest, who exaclty are they recruiting?
Is it all MPL / mentored cadets or is there a secret way in for normal people? |
Only a few posts up it states where they are looking to get their pilots from initially. Surely you don't want me to repeat it?
|
Thanks Arctic Monkey.
I was really looking to see if they were recruiting 'normal' people ie instructors who don't know the right people. Any one else want to answer who's not bored and smug? |
Hilarious EK, just hilarious.
My statement said it all. Recommendations first from affiliated flight schools. That might fill the numbers required, it might not. If it doesn't then of course everyone else will be in with a shout. |
Thank you.
You can have your thread back now. |

Fings I av seen from where I sit
All in all, not surprised Flybe keen to start building up a hold pool. |
Seems to be a mix of experience
Flybe seem to be taking a mix of experience in their current intake - some cadet and also some with considerable turboprop and even jet experience which is I think to their credit.
It's been my experience that Flybe are one of the few airlines who really don't give a toss what age you are as long as you are committed - I personally know of one Direct entry Captain who joined at 62 and I applaud them for that. The huge mix of experience is one of the airline's strengths, I've learned a lot flying with people younger and older than myself, the training is first rate - indeed it couldn't be better, the aircraft are new and the Dash is a superb entry to commercial flying before moving on to one of those lovely E-jets or on to an Airbus or Boeing. They also pay all your training and accom and the flight deck is generally a relaxed and friendly work environment. Good news that they are hiring and Monarch opening their doors will only increase Flybe's demand for pilots in the medium term. DP |
Recruitment
Hi All
What would be the best possible way to apply. I have more then 4000hrs on the Dhc , currently a fleet manager, tri/ tre working in Africa.Full uk jaa atpl with rights to work in the uk. Need to rellocate to the Uk due to Sons health care. Advise highly appreciated |
Apply online - all applications must be submitted through the website.
|
Thnks
Hows the feedback like when you apply online? Positive or they normally quiet if they not hiring |
Quite possible you would be a person of interest, however only way
in would be as f/o, and probably at a far flung UK base. Only way to apply is on line, make sure you use the standard trigger words to get through the auto shredder ;) |
What are the trigger words? And auto shedder?
|
I am wondering how to apply online for these positions.
From their website today: Flybe does not have any current requirement for Direct Entry Captains or First Officers. With effect from the 30th June 2011 we have closed our online recruitment system. Have been speaking with Flybe pilots at BHD and they are all convinced they are short of FO's and that it's going to get worse. Would love to apply but?? Direct to chief pilot? Head of recruitment? |

VFE, indeed ! I would like to know as well how do you guys apply . Or is it 'open' just for who already as a account ?
|
for the OP perhaps they have been selective and only sent an email requesting updates to those in the holding pool who meet the requirements that they may have at the moment...I have been in the pool as a DEC for a few years and was asked for an update at the end of last year but not this time... not that I expect they will ever need DECs unless something major changes..
|
There is no secret back door into Flybe. By contacting any of the management direct, you will only succeed in annoying them and damaging your chances. The application process is very clear, and if it is not currently open, then that is the curent state of play. Accept it, be patient, and in the meantime direct your efforts elsewhere.
|
Otto Throttle,
I'm not in a position to say that you are wong and this isn't a 'pop'. However, there are several people who claim that recruitment is constant and that FOs are being taken on all the time. All the while, the site says no recruitment. Are they wrong? |
Probably just people that actually applied last year when the system was open for applications. That and the cadets.
|
I’m in no position to be certain but I suspect that the new hires could also be either:
1. Pilots who attended Flybe recognised FTOs and were recommended by those FTOs. 2. Pilots who have been working for Flybe in some other capacity ie cabin crew, ops, despatch, engineering etc. In the past Flybe have recruited CPL/MEIR holders from within their own ranks. When combined with cadets and those that passed the last recruitment and ended up in the pool then that would satisfy their immediate recruitment needs without having to open up the online system again. When the online system does open again successful applicants may well find themselves ‘swimming’ in a recruitment pool for some time before actually starting with the airline. |
You should still be able to log in to your original application to update it. If not there's a glitch in the system. Contact HR and ask if they will get bond to fix it.

This is the email I got:
Dear Joe Bloggs, Following a recent review of all our on line applications it is evident that a large number of applications have not been updated. May I take this opportunity to ask you to update your information and in particular your DATE LAST FLOWN. This updated information is needed by the 14th June 2012. Applications which do not contain a date flown between 01/12/11 – 01/06/12 will be deleted after that date. You can click on the following link to access your online account by entering your current login (email address) and password: https://www.asp15.bondtalent.com/fly...&password=&un= Please use the forgotten password link if you require a password reminder. Regards Flybe Flight Crew Recruitment |
What if your last flight was after 01/06/2012?
|
It will be deleted!
A requirement is 50hrs in the previous 12 months.... |
I can't see how Flybe would know that I did have a flight in that date range from the data I have put down?
As a flight instuctor I flew last week. I have to enter that date but it is technically out of the required date range. |
EK,
do you have a window in your application where you can put some additional info? If yes, I would suggest you to write that situation there |
Can't see one.
I'll just put the last flight I did in May. Sorted. |
Ek,
Firstly it states to be up dated by the 14th.... Secondly it states Applications which do not contain a date flown between 01/12/11 – 01/06/12 will be deleted after that date. They want 50hrs in the last 12 months. It doesn't say your last flown date must be between 01/12/11 and 01/06/12 they just want some flying to be in that time frame Ie kept current and not just done an hour the day you got the email. It's kind of irrelevant as the 14th has passed.... |
Vone Rotate:

I disagree Vone Rotate.
As far as I can tell, there is only 1 opportunity to enter a flight date in the system. This should be the date of last flight. For me, and probably many others, I have flown recently and so I should enter a date that is outside the required range. Flybe have no way of knowing whether I did or didn't fly between 01/12/11 – 01/06/12 based on the information they ask for. This is still the case even if I tick the '50 hours in last 12 months box' (which I did). The way I understand it, my application has been deleted because I have flown too recently. Of course, I do hope I'm wrong..... |
Does anyone feel this could be the start of that so-called 'shortage of pilots?'
