Must've just missed the last one then:mad:! Any ideas how many folks are waiting for sim assessment??

Mikehotel152 12th January 2012 17:37

I logged on within an hour and there wasn't even a link to the available sim sessions. 8 sessions you say? All gone within minutes? That's crazy.

It really is the luck of the draw with BA, even once you pass an interview.

OBK! 12th January 2012 19:12

Hardly depressing brian. If you applied in the first place because of PP24 then you can always retract your offer to BA. The finishing salary for an FO is still in excess of £100,000. I'm sure there are many other reasons you applied to BA. It still remains the best flying organisation in the UK, and one of them globally.

PP24 was around when retirement age was 55. Now it's 65. 10 more years in the company. Hence it's quite appropriate to adjust the increments.

flyer19832007 12th January 2012 20:50

Bin sleeping....

Courses penciled in until Aug 2012...

All allocated or still to be allocated to Poolers?

Still waiting for Day one so if successful, very long wait ahead I suspect.

OBK! 12th January 2012 22:19

HiWing,

If you haven't already, get a licence, then join ryanair or easyJet. The debate between BA and the loco's has been done to death. We all know who comes out on top. I know plenty of ex loco pilots happily flying for BA. I know none, nor have I ever heard of any, who have trended the other way.

How will I live in London? I'm a grown up so I've figured that one out. Didn't take long, you'll grasp it one day. Infact, I've changed my mind, I'll live in Sydney. You can do that in a grown up airline.

veetwo 12th January 2012 22:30

OBK!

Thank god for some common sense. I echo your sentiments entirely.

PP1 at BA is £50,800. PP34 is £113,500 (long haul FO). Add £12,000 to those numbers for flight/duty pay. There's a whole lot of money inbetween. But the paypoints don't tell half the story - it's the "having a life" bit thats actually important. The bidline, the staff travel..the general humane treatment.

Hiwing - if you aren't happy with prospects at BA, toddle off to easy/ryanair. Having worked at the former I can tell you that it bears no comparison whatsoever in terms of lifestyle - and I'm still in the bottom 10% seniority wise. At least now I don't suffer constant roster instability and fatigue.

Oh, and I'm living in london quite comfortably.

Good luck to all those swimming in the pool - I wouldn't think twice when plucked.

Captain Spam Can 13th January 2012 01:35

OBK! I fly with plenty of ex BA guys who prefer easyjet (guys with families from the north and mainly ex RAF), they didnt like being away from home so much or the apparent relationships with cabin crew.....but being honest it’s a lifestyle choice for us northerners not wishing to commute. Of course BA is the better company it’s a legacy airline, but I guess everyone’s situation is different. If I had to live down south based with EZY I would toddle off and try for BA. Or if I worked for say errrr TCX ;-) then I would be trying to get into BA right now, but I don’t. Having just done a 4 hour duty and that’s my working week until the 25th I’m quite happy..Up norrtthhh. Good luck in BA on the 767, and as a whole fantastic career choice pal.:ok:

SR71 13th January 2012 08:38

Dont forget to factor in the "time value of money" as well Brian, so you need to discount those future cash flows!

And the fact that, if your salary now, allows you to pay off your mortgage 5 years early, thats probably worth £50K too.

:uhoh:

As many have pointed out, you join BA for the other reasons...

no sponsor 13th January 2012 08:55

Flying pay is quite significant in BA. On a good month, as a year 1 F/O short haul, I can take home 4100GBP. Pay is generally between 3600-4000GBP per month. There is extra flying work if you really want it to top up your salary even more.

You never have your roster changed and you get to bid for holidays in the summer. You get treated like a professional.

I would never choose to go back to the world of low cost. :ok:

MrLeveloff 13th January 2012 10:13

Why is everyone looking at PP34 for F/Os. Do you not expect to reach the LHS?

Also

the apparent relationships with cabin crew.....
Relationships with cabin crew, (or even cabin crew at all) were not my considerations when I got my first airline job and I certainly wouldn't let it affect my choice of employer!

Bengerman 13th January 2012 10:43

Despite some of the stuff written here, and in the odd other place, relationships with cabin crew are not a significant problem. Persuading your own managers to fight your corner with cabin crew managers can be more difficult, but every company/organisation has its power hungry empire builders....BA is no different.

Just for info...What is the money at pp34 for Long Haul Capt?

Wirbelsturm 13th January 2012 11:05

BA is about choices.

If you join the Minibus fleet at the start of a recruitment 'phase' you will move up the seniority ladder very quickly indeed. The BA/BMI merger won't affect you relative position as BMI will increase the size of the Minibus fleet in line with their pilot numbers.

Once you are in the position to have a bit of bidding seniority then you can tailor BA to your requirments.

Want long trips and get to see where you are going and have a bit of time to look at the city? No problem.

Want to run it like EZY and have a multitude of day trips? No problem either.

Want to jet off around the world and see some of the most fantastic cities going? Off to Long hHaul you go.

Want a command as quickly as possible? If that floats your boat go got Gatwick or just wait it out on the Minibus. The projected expansion (circa 2014 if rumours be believed) should see time to command come rapidly down.

BA provide some of the best hotels in the world to stay in, the transport is always there, the HOST system provides you with local currency at a highly preferential rate and there is a good (not perfect) system for coping with downroute delays. A health care system that will sort you out anywhere in the world and 24/7 backup from the company.

In all the years I've been in BA I ave very rarely felt 'let down' whilst operating and generally have felt that whatever decisions I make/have made have been fully supported by the company.

It's not for everyone but, for me, it is far better than any previous employer.

stewiegriffin 13th January 2012 12:41

Day 1?

Many peeps out there still waiting for Day 1 assessments? & anybody got any info on when we may expect a Day 1? pls & thanks

ETOPS 13th January 2012 13:14

DEP recruitment open again

There is a new opening for Mil DEPs at BA.

Follow this http://www.britishairwaysjobs.com

Fiesler02 13th January 2012 13:34

Day 1

Stewie,
I have been waiting since August and haven't received the call yet....start losing hope.
Seems other Fellas are in the same water....
All news about Bmi and T&C's changes are not helping the situation either
Good luck!

mesh 13th January 2012 14:06

first come first served I think as I was part 1 October...still too slow on the uptake though:ugh:

g00gle 13th January 2012 22:44

Still waiting for day one also, last contact in November. Non type rated. Atb.

flyingcamel 14th January 2012 00:38

As yet another of those dewy eyed 30 something's waiting wistfully for a day 1 assessment, I have come to the conclusion that it will probably be a good while longer until I am 'giving an example of a time when........'

However as a year 4 FO on the Canadian tractor I can look forward to more fun and games for that period as a lower, sorry, basic rate tax payer. Rather than focussing on the £300k I could potentially 'lose' from (inshallah) joining post PP34 I rejoice in the knowledge that 40% of that will probably be sorely missed by the taxman.

*slowly counts on fingers*

Now, give an example of a time when you wished everyone all the best in their somewhat uncertain futures through a Pinot Grigio flavoured haze!

:ok:

Mikehotel152 14th January 2012 07:59

For the FR FOs considering joining BA, don't disregard the fact that you are currently paid in the mighty Euro which is likely to slide from its historically high value vs the Pound. That equates to a massive pay cut.

SR71 14th January 2012 09:02

fate hunter,

Ah, but you don't need to time value it as you will get uplifts in line with inflation or whatever is negotiated by BALPA: if you time value, you will be UNDERSTATING the effect!
Ahhhh....but if you actually work out what those pay-rises have given you and look at what RPI has actually done over the same time period, over the last 10 years at my company, I have wound up working for 8% less.

As long as people understand what they're doing...

:ok:

FlyingTinCans 16th January 2012 12:12

Well it seems from the email and that SIM checks are still being offered, recruitment for 2012 is still going ahead.

However with the vote on BMI integration currently going on, do you think BA will wait for the outcome before offering any more course dates? Or do BA not have the luxury of time?

The latest courses have been for March, with the 3 month notice period, April dates need to be offered soon

monk360 16th January 2012 16:14

No But I am hoping for a start date in April/May for the 767 so I would also be grateful if someone could let me know when they start being offered. Better not have had a phone call today as I've been in italy with no signal all day!

GLEN2651 16th January 2012 18:18

How long to go...

Hi,

I am 737 rated in the hold pool since June 2011- just wondering roughly where i am in the hold pool and if anyone had any ideas regarding when us 737 guys might get a date? Delighted to get into BA regardless of the new PP scheme, just the waiting is rather frustrating especially with so little info coming from BA!

Cheers

ellafliestheskies 17th January 2012 10:36

day 1?

I'm still waiting for day 1 as well, 3000hrs but RJ rated, guess that's why...they told me early 2012, which I hope is before March, because I'll be in South America for the rest of the year...can anybody tell me how many days/weeks before the interview you receive an invitation? To check if I have enough time to come back :-) thx!

Cattivo 23rd January 2012 06:18

Offers

Would I be right in thinking no contracts have been offered since the announcement of the ballot and therefore none will be offered until 1st Feb?

Does anyone know if there are any legal reasons why job offers couldn't be offered now? Perhaps until agreement on merger issue is reached? (ie no new recruitment if there are potential redundancies). I know BA isn't buying BMI just trying to fathom what seems to be a slowdown in job offers.

Wirbelsturm 23rd January 2012 09:15

Cattivo,

Perhaps the rather increasing scenario of running headlong into a double dip?

The US moving Carrier Battle Groups into the region where most of the Aviation fuel comes from and has to transit a narrow deep water channel perfect for submarines?

Integration stomach aches for the next few months?

Flattening of premium traffic after Christmas?

Iberia dispute?

Government body to examine the future of airport capacity in the South East?

Unfortunately the list is endless and we, at the coal face, aren't privvy to the exact ebbs and flows of the recruitment numbers.

Best be a little patient for a little longer sorry to say.

Callsign Kilo 23rd January 2012 11:16

Cattivo

Albeit few, I believe there have been recent offers. They just haven't been broadcasted here. However I have it on good authority and I have no reason to doubt.

Cattivo 23rd January 2012 11:54

W,CK

Thanks for your replies, any info is gratefully received.

J Lieber 23rd January 2012 12:13

Cattivo, 737 courses went out last week, rather than read the continuos speculation why not just contact the recruitment team.

FLYBORIS 23rd January 2012 17:59

....or join Bugspeed's email list if you haven't already.

monk360 26th January 2012 15:09

Does anyone have an idea when the next round of 767 courses might be? I know there is one startin at the end of april, all paces filled so I hear.

londonmet 26th January 2012 16:23

I'd also like to know the answer if you'd be so kind to PM me too please? I've also herd that the 767's are staying longer now as the 787's are no longer going to be replacement aircraft. Any truth?

monk360 26th January 2012 19:01

Talking to most people it seems the 767s could last another 10 years or so. Maybe some of them will be used to fill slots currently being taken up by BMI A320s, converting them into long haul money makers???

spider_man 27th January 2012 10:00

I believe Boeing agreed to a full refurb and life extension of the BA 767s, provided they are never resold, as compensation for 787 delays. No reason why they couldn't serve another 5-10 years... Maybe we will see winglets too? :ooh:

Wirbelsturm 27th January 2012 19:15

Spider-man,

Sorry, no winglets. BA are the only RR 767 operator and the flight testing/profiling hasn't been done for the Roller. Boeing weren't going to stump up for that either so a refit it was.

spider_man 27th January 2012 19:33

Shame. The BA 757s look great with their winglets :)

Kempus 31st January 2012 13:50

So it's a yes vote regarding integration with potentially 300 joining before us. Discuss.
