but here is some info on estonian company. So it should be something like that:
Estonian Air A/S jobs, payscales and entry requirements.
Avion Express jobs, payscales and entry requirements.

I don't know exactly, as I was in the other seat, and a contractor, but I think take home was about 2000-2500e. Probably NOT what you want to hear :=, but I think that was about the correct figure.

If you've got time on the 73, surely they will not give you year one FO salary. I know I wouldn't accept it. If i would clear a minimum of 3 I could accept it due to the really low cost of living there.

Anyone any thoughts on this? I mean they seem to be really trying to get people there due to the high volume of leavers. This puts you in a good bargaining position during the interview, especially if you have alternatives. Play hardball, it's a !!!!ty business.

drfaust, I am not so sure of your assertion that it is "cheap" to live there.

If you want a decent appartment, rents are not far short of European norm, restaurant prices likewise.

Supermarkets/shopping in general, a little cheaper, but just a "little". Fuel for your car, same as rest of Europe. Nightlife ? slightly cheaper, depending on where you go ;)

It has changed a lot since they became EEC, and will change more for the worse when they finally adopt the € I am sure.

The only thing that hasn't changed is the salaries, the locals in most jobs are earning very little, compared to costs. Most cabin crew for example, were living way out of town and needing to take 2/3 buses trams to get to/from work as they couldn't afford the rent to live anywhere in the centre.

I was comparing the cost of living in Riga to my current place of residence, which is probably one of the more expensive places to live in Europe. In this respect Riga would be a welcome change. You can rent an apartment in the old part of town, which is renovated and around 60m2, for 550-600 euro's every month. Where I am you can add a thousand to that figure.

Admittedly, the rest of the living expenses I can't really compare as I haven't ever been in riga, but if I was an experienced 737 driver I would ask for more money in the interview.

Yep, you are correct for rental prices, I was comparing with a modest sized city elsewhere, rather than a European capital

Don't know about asking for more money though, I doubt they would bite on that one :=

During Summer they can have experience in the left seat via contractors, in the RHS they are not too worried about the experience level & there are any number of keen young lads willing to pay for TR's to get a job. Even if airB had to foot the bill, it is all done in house as they are a TRTO, so doesn't in reality cost that much.

Sure you can always ask to be slotted in on a higher payscale. . . . but :hmm:

Well I'm going to try. I've got another job offer but honestly would prefer checking out Riga, just not at any cost. If I would get 3K clean in the pocket (after tax), then we're in business.

Just had an email today from a colleague still there. He told me that recruitment policy had changed, and all new non type rated applicants have to pay for both the type rating AND line training.
Line Tng on 737 is currently 70€/Hr for 300hr :hmm:

Now that they have started to see crew as a revenue source (like so many other companies) I am even less optimistic of the chances of anyone squeezing more money from them.

Why pay more, when you can have someone else pay YOU more :(

It's for the whole fleet. Even experienced pilots working in the company for years have to sign a bond when they change type.


Be warned that you have to pay 10% dividend tax yourself over your "nett" salary...

Do you get Air Miles with that?

It would be cheaper to buy a ticket.

It would be nice to get some sort of confirmation from anyone on here who has been offered anything by aB in the last few weeks...

They do that because tons of pilots leave the company. In a few months around 30 pilots left. MOstly due to schedule,money and some other reasons. As they say there are always tons of pilots who want to come there and there will not be any shortage. Lots of pilots after getting TR stayed with the BT for a few months, got some time on type and then OFF THEY GO...... Company was spending lots of money on training and retraining. So I see that things have changed now and they want pilots to pay at least half of TR.
I left myself BT 1 month ago from 737 Captains position after being 5 years inside.

For curiosity - when did you apply?

Well, I have 4000 hours but all of them were flown in military aircrafts. This is my first application. I passed the first set of interview, tests... and I am waiting for the results of the second interview.
As far as they told me they will only offer a job as a first officer in Q400. If i take the job, I will have to pay 9000E and besides I will have a bond of three years!!! Isn´t it slavery??? Well, it is not because if they offer to me what they told me they were going to offer my answer will be NO. I say again, my answer is not going to be "no". It is going to be :="NO"

Don't worry, holding pool is overcrowded, if you say NO someone else will say YES in your place.
If you don't like the offer that is your prerogative, but don't expect them to beg you, or indeed improve the offer.
The market is not THAT good yet.

Could you tell me what the terms were for the 3 year bond? Is the bond decreasing in every year and if so, is it decreasing in linear fashion or some other way? Thanks
