BA amd BMI
Sir Willie is said to fancy guying BMI.
What does Nigel think of them joining the Seniority list. % or DOG? And where does this leave Cityflyer................? |
To be approved they would hve to offload all all of BMI's slots at LHR, and thats the only bit thats worth anything in the current climate!
|
Troll Alert! :=
|
It will be slots or nothing. They don't need another Dan Air,Cityflyer takeover.Hopefully lessons have been learnt.
|
Easy, BMI tacked on to the bottom of the master seniority list. Grandfather rights to allow continuation of Captains on the BMI types, i.e. Airbus/Embraer.
If they wish to move fleet to the LH fleets then they have to accept their natural seniority and give up the command. Would probably be nice for the guys and girls to have some stability for a while! |
"Easy, BMI tacked on to the bottom of the master seniority list. Grandfather rights to allow continuation of Captains on the BMI types"
sorry not allowed as when bmi integrated bmed, bmed slotted in doj and not on bottom as was preferred by bmi crew, found to be some labour law forcing the issue. |
I was always amazed BA got away with doing this to the Cityflyer folk. I think one or two of them were going to force the issue at the time, but didnt for some reason. I have a feeling, it was suggested at the time that seniority couldn't be a transferable 'asset' under TUPE; but as doo says, this has probably changed or been clarified.
|
The exact question was brought up at a business brief in BA infront of their pilots late last year and it was mentioned that they would just 'slot' in.
|
This is a dead issue.
BA have a surplus of pilots, and aircraft. They want slots only, and will buy them if they become available. Period. Thread started by a Troll! |
Lufty dont want to subsidise BMI. Thay have enough cash from the cookie jar they prised from Mr Bishop's cold clammy hand to fund the losses till spring...ish.
Ergo they will seek to unload it by then. BA have the dosh to do it, thanks to the vote of confidence in Willie's strategy from the City. Virgin are dead in the water and cant afford to buy, even if they had a use for the slots, which they dont as they are suffering a crippling battle on the world's most oversubscribed routes, hence SIA's desire to unload their 49% share. BA have warmed up the Iberia deal, and AA is waiting in the wings. What will be the price of these mergers? Answer....you must give up lots of LHR slots. By chance....after purchase of BMI......who might have those slots to spare?? And of course...still plenty left over to absorb the traffic when BA finally quit LGW, also releasing crew on cheaper contract terms to transfer to LHR, although this last supposition might be precluded by Union agreements??? All of the above is pure rumours and speculation. Awaiting flak. |
Only slots with more profitable timings would be of benefit to BA.
|
Dead, as TR says, we have too many pilots now, why would we want any more, now please close the thread
|
Close Nigel?
Well you are stressed, close the thread because you don't like what you hear.
Stormin is right, BMI have some good slots so worth the punt. Don't forget either that BMI only bought BMed as a cheap way of getting slots, it was about to go bust. Too many pilots yes, the redundancies will be decided after due process once the two companies and their seniority lists have been merged. No longer LIFO Overstress, you may well find that you are high on the list to go as a 400 driver, how is your sickness record? It will be funny to see those BMed jets back in BA colours. |
Its BA and Virgin that ought to merge surely? Get your heads around that one...
Watch LH cry "Foul" if thats the case whereupon the new BA+VS entity will tell the EU Commission to look at Frankfurt before they make a decision on relinquishing slots. BA+VS will win that one. None of the cash LH spent on bmi was unforeseen...the deal was sitting there on the cards for 10 years with a pre-negotiated price tag. They'll sort out the bmi business - of that £100 million loss they clawed back £75 million on closing out the deal; so they're now only £25 million down for the year assuming thats what they'll lose this year - but who in their right mind would sell rights to operate into LHR at this point in time when the price will be depressed and their future revenue potential is infinite? I reckon it'll be "no change" for the foreseeable future but LH could really hold BA to ransom for the slots bearing in mind the constraints on expansion at LHR... All pure speculation of course... :} |
Get real! It will be an asset stripe. Period!
TBE. |
aztruck lhr and lgw pilots are on the same contract (different scheduling only). I still don't get why BA would buy a loss making company (and that on a lower cost base). Slots maybe but not all slots would be desirable.
Don't forget either that BMI only bought BMed as a cheap way of getting slots Interesting times.... |
TUPE
Asset strip yes TBE, but read your employment law, employees are not that easy to get rid of. To take the assets and discard only the employees of the company being stripped is illegal.
|
Unless LH sack most of the staff and then sell it to BA for the slots.
However, it is all uninformed speculation. I doubt even the board at LH know what they are going to do at the moment. |
Thanks for your interest MEDX but my sickness record (exemplary) and my post in BA are nothing to do with you. I have reported your posting to the mods.
To answer the question by the OP, Nigel is not concerned. Now, back to the thread closure.... |

Flapsfullretard
Not bitter are we, by any chance?
A lot of BMED guys saw their chances of command disappear into the unknown. And a few had their command course cancelled and given to BMI. That's how the cookie crumbles. Time to move on for everyone. Re BA: Willie W has repeatedly and unashamedly his interest in SLOTS. Nothing else. |
Bitternes...?How many commands were there at bmi in the last 8 years? How many 10+ year Fo's are there flying with Bmed commanders with 4 years service? After seeing LH as the great saviour only to have the rug pulled is not pleasant for anyone in the group.
Whatever happens it will disadvantage one group or another (if not all), and I sincerely wish all concerned the very best of luck. |
when they joined bmi they kept their DOJ and their Sen, pres been set and it was BALPA that advised that it was the way that it had to be done; they cant say one thing to one airline and something different to the next. My advice...............dont bank on anything!!! |
Asset strip?
Yeah because thats what they did to Swiss isn't it? bmi management was all about obfuscation. Their accounts don't mean anything. No wonder its taken LH nigh on 3 months now to try and ascertain what the hell has been going on even though they've had members on the board for 10 years. They'll sort it out and run it with typical German efficiency. Game, set and match to the Germans. Except, for the next 10 years no one in the UK will have any disposable income to spend courtesy of a deficit that makes Madoff's look like pocket money. Last one out of "not so Great Britain", turn out the lights. PS: I am British... |
Don't forget either that BMI only bought BMed as a cheap way of getting slots, it was about to go bust. |

Weell....you could also bring up the guys who left bmi to join BMED and get commands their colleagues are still waiting for. Should they be demoted? These things happen, however unfortunate. In any case, this isn't the place to discuss internal issues within bmi. With regard to the seniority issues in the event of a possible merger with BA, the DOJ strategy adopted in bmi was the right one, however painful it may have been for some. It would be difficult for BA to relegate the entire bmi pilot community to the bottom of its seniority list after BALPA upheld a DOJ strategy in bmi. The precedent set in bmi would, by rights, have to be observed. |
