Astraeus Redundancies
Is it true? Compulsary redundancies I hear. Thin end of the wedge. Even more 73/75 drivers on the market, is there no end?
|
Rainbow - too true. It's all doom and gloom at the moment, although by mid 09 there should be some glimmer of hope for a battered aviation industry.
How many Astraeus crew are affected ? |
They've done me no favours in the past but I don't want to see any airline going down. I hope it's just temporary because they have some good guys on the flightdeck!
|
Hang in there folks
Bin around for over 40 years in this business, has gone before, will come again, hang in there and get a 2nd string:suspect: Doom & gloom breads it's own desperate situation:{
Think what our fathers/mothers, grand fathers/grandmothers went through, realise we've had a bit of the good times, !!!! happens and it hurts, but come one you lot, you had the bollocks to get where you are, now use that courage to get through this kaki period, Good luck to you all:ok: |
Any plans for the two aeu 757s parked up at Gatwick? Maybe they could take back the Freetowns and Uralsk flights from bmi and Djibouti from jet2.
Heres hoping 2009 brings better news for us all. |
AEU can't match Jet2s bids. Jet2 own their own aircraft and have been very successful in undercutting everyone else.
Another problem for AEU is that BMI are trying to wriggle out of their side of the bargain  Personally I'd be over the moon for AEU to take Jib back as I'd rather not fly to !!!!holes for 45p duty pay :yuk: |
Jet2 :

If the connection is !!!!holes, then yes, there must be?
|
Around 6 months in one of the 75's pulled for "heavy maintenance" ?
I'm sure bmi didn't sign on for that. |
G-OJIB / G-STRY are staying with BMI while G-STRX is being returned for some reason.

Hang on in there Astraeus!
There are some very smart & tenacious folks at Astraeus (AEU) and if anyone can find a way to survive this downturn then it's going to be them... albeit without doubt that they're in a frighteningly difficult commercial environment.
It'd be fabulous to see them survive this slump... if only so that many of my mates, whom are still there, do not find themselves on the scrapheap... where, for some, that would likely become their final aviation resting place (due age), and for others it would represent yet another trip into redundancy (e.g. those casualties of SilverJet & Zoom whom where latterly rescued by AEU). In AEU's favour... It's a big world, and AEU do have a Worldwide AOC, which allows them a lot of diversity in terms of their potential theatre of operation(s) & commercial opportunities. Along with this, their team are some of the best that its been my privilege to work with... flexible, highly experienced, professional, and with a very "can-do!" attitude. Astraeus is a great little company, and is a place for which I retain many happy memories and great experiences... so do please hang-on in there Astraeus and be that last man standing! :ok: |
Not surprised to see the usual garbage on here from the "I Know Everything" brigade.
As a company we are looking at the future of the aviation industry, and there are storm clouds ahead. We have survived and prospered in this business by being able to adjust to meet industry needs. We were and continue to be innovators. In this age of litigation and challenging employment law, we decided to start the process of looking at redundancies. To get it right ( legally right) takes a long time and careful planning , along with consultation with staff and unions. it would reckless of us to avoid these discussions and they are better held when the company is trading profitably, than with the administrators when it is left too late. We hope we will not have to say goodbye to anyone, but we need to survive in a challenging business and we intend to do that , and continue as a successful ( and profitable) business. We don't intend to disclose our future business plans or contracts in this forum. We leave that to the " experts" ! Hamrah p.s. Thanks Puritan |
Best of luck to all at AEU, they gave me my start in this part of the world for which I am eternally grateful.
Lets hope for all concerned that it works itself out :) |
so do please hang-on in there Astraeus and be that last man standing! |
Well I'm a busy bunny at the mo and all our 75's appear to be very much airborne. BTW you might notice the Eddie 757 reappearing shortly. Off round the world for 2 months starting Feb. We get to exercise the new Global AOC and all the Etops approvals. Transpacific no less. I wish Jet 2 folk luck with the Djibouti operation. It has its own unique charm, and the night sector back to CDG in winter after min rest is very spectacular if you like stargazing.
Once saw MIR tracking across the sky. |
Only You'd enjoy that Aztruck. Not me sir. Please take it back.
Least you got off at Gatwick and not expected to sit in a cab all the way back up to Leeds  |
go and get a job else where bag wag?!!!...... oh dear there aren't any ... at least its a cab and not a hire car :-)
|
How dare you Lugerlout, you swine ... why not give me a bicycle while you're at it, with a flat tyre, and no seat! 18hr duty, bollox!
I think AEU are the men for the Jibs. Take it back Aztruck. I'll buy you a pint. |
Astraeus has always been able to adapt at short notice to changing circumstances - I have complete faith that, although there are tough times to come, we shall prevail.
I personally didn't mind JIB - decent hotel and a good buffet (my world is measured in food),the only hassle was coming back with the attendant payload/fuel tightness at times. Is RX going back ?or just to LGW: great shame if it is as I think that is my favourite 757. |
At risk of thread creep... the flight time of my longest JIB - CDG was 8:22 (v.strong easterly jetstreams the whole way) for which, with a pretty full aircraft, you can go figure how much fuel we had left... albeit more than the minimum (legal) amount (and with CDG wide open).... it's a bloody good aeroplane is the B757! :ok:
|
further thread creep but I've done 8:45 on the Almaty - LHR recently! Like you say - good aircraft for the job the 757.
|
Even further thread creep...8.37 from JIB to CDG, pulled onto stand with mins + 100kg or so....
I was told at the time, that was the record..the Skipper was a certain fellow of Easyjet TV fame..who has now gone onto the 777 out in the sandpit:ok: Fade old son (my world is measured in food), I even remember leaning out the window in JIB and counting the bags (getting left behind) being loaded..so the locals couldn't cheat! |
In 1990 I flew an Air Europe 757 from KHI to LGW nonstop in 9.20 min. We had 228 Scandinavian passengers on board and landed with minimum fuel. For info the great circle distance is 400 nm longer than JIB-CDG.
My best wishes to everyone at Astraeus. |
Dont tell commercial. We did have a chap do Jib LGW non stop due CDG being Cat 3 wx and the crew being only Cat 1. Loving the weather in Almaty and Bishkek at the mo. This is really serious thread creep folks!
|
what you trying to say,haughtney ?Do you think I'm fat or something ?:}
Yes, the headrest is great in RX:I love the boeing arm rests, sit still too long and have all circulation cut off to both arms - like a train driver's 'dead mans handle' maybe ?! I'm obviously not trying hard enough best JIB was about 8:30, loved the telex plog in one long reel - stuck it out the window one day and it was long enough to touch the nosewheel. Er,sorry back on topic.... |
What happened to the original thread? Are the lay offs still on the cards or does no one really know? Presumably the consultation process is still going on or has it now been suspended?
|
Count Bawbag
I think AEU are the men for the Jibs. |
Slight thread drift but is Bruce Dickinson still flying for Astraeus?
If he is hope all this doesn't affect him. (yes, Iron Maiden fan and huge admirer of Brucey). |
Yes. I don't think you have to worry unduly, there are a few companies I reckon will go bust long before Astraeus.
|
Too much conjecture on here,
I don't think anyone not directly involved with the company will hear any more on pprune, Although you can judge by the tone of some of the above, spirits are still high ! |
Mister Geezer
Yes, we at Jet2 do indeed transport fighting tracksuit trash from one drinking bout to another. And if someone says 'but they pay your wages', well, they don't. I think a gang of church mice dole out my wages from their own pocket. So, in all, I'd like to see AEU hang about. We don't need any more redundancies in this business. Plus we can't have part time slackers like Fade to Grey out of a job :} |
Naughty, naughty bawbag....you might give away my identity ( i think most know anyhow)
However I only know one person at jet2......so, what is it - new year, new identity ?:} |
OK, you got me, it's me, Phillip Meekon
|
I can not understand that most of the people on this forum have such high thoughts about companies like this....charge people to work for them etc.....of course they have a better posibility to make money......
I also heard from a friend in scandinavia that aeu has a really !!!!ty reputation up there from when they flew wetlease for sterling..... especielly when they do things that are totally unheard of in civilised pårts of the world... JUst my 5 cents.... |
So then EUmember.
You heard from a friend who probably heard it from his friend, who heard it from the ramp agent, who heard it from the honeycart driver. I would be very careful that the mods don't chase you on this one. You are skating close to libel I suspect. The words 'put up' or 'shut up' come to mind. :ugh: |
As an experienced commercial industry person I'm with Say Again Slowly.
The current MD is one of the shrewdest commercial operators I have ever met in my life and has without a shadow of doubt saved the airline already with it's recent transformation into an all-ACMI operation. Times are obviously challenging but the company is in very safe hands. If it can survive it will. Good luck to all involved :ok: |
Why do we have high opinions ?
because we work for them and we like it and we want it to continue......you (EU) member. |
EU... wrt "aeu has a really !!!!ty reputation up there from when they flew wetlease for Sterling",... that's probably because they (AEU) made Sterling look like the very expensive & poorly run legacy outfit that it was (nb. Sterling went bust, right; QED?!)... as opposed to it being a lean & efficient machine (like AEU).
Doors to Auto'... I've got to agree with you (especially wrt AEU's CEO... and whom is / was a bloody good Training Captain too)! |
I am quite puzzled about the existance of this thread. Is there anything that supports the story that AEU is going bust ,other than they did not extend sby´s contract? When you are comparing Sterling to AEU, there is nothing to compare. Other then these companies have had the same ownership. But under different holding companies. Current owner of AEU owned Sterling before it went bust. Sterling was in selling tickets and travel packages and AEU in wet lease only.
|
!!!!ty reputation in Scandanavia?....In the summer our two aircraft had the best on-time departure record of the Sterling fleet AND the lowest operating cost.
