Astraeus Redundancies
 

Is it true? Compulsary redundancies I hear. Thin end of the wedge. Even more 73/75 drivers on the market, is there no end?

Rainbow - too true. It's all doom and gloom at the moment, although by mid 09 there should be some glimmer of hope for a battered aviation industry.
How many Astraeus crew are affected ?

They've done me no favours in the past but I don't want to see any airline going down. I hope it's just temporary because they have some good guys on the flightdeck!

Think what our fathers/mothers, grand fathers/grandmothers went through, realise we've had a bit of the good times, !!!! happens and it hurts, but come one you lot, you had the bollocks to get where you are, now use that courage to get through this kaki period,

Any plans for the two aeu 757s parked up at Gatwick? Maybe they could take back the Freetowns and Uralsk flights from bmi and Djibouti from jet2.

Heres hoping 2009 brings better news for us all.

AEU can't match Jet2s bids. Jet2 own their own aircraft and have been very successful in undercutting everyone else.
Another problem for AEU is that BMI are trying to wriggle out of their side of the bargain :confused:
Personally I'd be over the moon for AEU to take Jib back as I'd rather not fly to !!!!holes for 45p duty pay :yuk:

Jet2 : I imagine there's some kind of connection. Wouldn't you? :rolleyes:

Around 6 months in one of the 75's pulled for "heavy maintenance" ?
I'm sure bmi didn't sign on for that.

G-OJIB / G-STRY are staying with BMI while G-STRX is being returned for some reason.

There are some very smart & tenacious folks at Astraeus (AEU) and if anyone can find a way to survive this downturn then it's going to be them... albeit without doubt that they're in a frighteningly difficult commercial environment.

It'd be fabulous to see them survive this slump... if only so that many of my mates, whom are still there, do not find themselves on the scrapheap... where, for some, that would likely become their final aviation resting place (due age), and for others it would represent yet another trip into redundancy (e.g. those casualties of SilverJet & Zoom whom where latterly rescued by AEU).

In AEU's favour...

It's a big world, and AEU do have a Worldwide AOC, which allows them a lot of diversity in terms of their potential theatre of operation(s) & commercial opportunities.
Along with this, their team are some of the best that its been my privilege to work with... flexible, highly experienced, professional, and with a very "can-do!" attitude.

Astraeus is a great little company, and is a place for which I retain many happy memories and great experiences... so do please hang-on in there Astraeus and be that last man standing! :ok:

Not surprised to see the usual garbage on here from the "I Know Everything" brigade.

As a company we are looking at the future of the aviation industry, and there are storm clouds ahead. We have survived and prospered in this business by being able to adjust to meet industry needs. We were and continue to be innovators.

In this age of litigation and challenging employment law, we decided to start the process of looking at redundancies. To get it right ( legally right) takes a long time and careful planning , along with consultation with staff and unions. it would reckless of us to avoid these discussions and they are better held when the company is trading profitably, than with the administrators when it is left too late.

We hope we will not have to say goodbye to anyone, but we need to survive in a challenging business and we intend to do that , and continue as a successful ( and profitable) business.

We don't intend to disclose our future business plans or contracts in this forum. We leave that to the " experts" !

I think we all hope and know that it will not come to that stage since that would see the ACMI market being decimated and hundreds (if not thousands when looking at Europe as a whole) being out of work ! :uhoh:

Well I'm a busy bunny at the mo and all our 75's appear to be very much airborne. BTW you might notice the Eddie 757 reappearing shortly. Off round the world for 2 months starting Feb. We get to exercise the new Global AOC and all the Etops approvals. Transpacific no less. I wish Jet 2 folk luck with the Djibouti operation. It has its own unique charm, and the night sector back to CDG in winter after min rest is very spectacular if you like stargazing.

Astraeus has always been able to adapt at short notice to changing circumstances - I have complete faith that, although there are tough times to come, we shall prevail.

I personally didn't mind JIB - decent hotel and a good buffet (my world is measured in food),the only hassle was coming back with the attendant payload/fuel tightness at times.

Is RX going back ?or just to LGW: great shame if it is as I think that is my favourite 757.

At risk of thread creep... the flight time of my longest JIB - CDG was 8:22 (v.strong easterly jetstreams the whole way) for which, with a pretty full aircraft, you can go figure how much fuel we had left... albeit more than the minimum (legal) amount (and with CDG wide open).... it's a bloody good aeroplane is the B757! :ok:
