Could anyone give me a rough idea how much the daily allowance ( meals and sundries) is for crews stopping over in the USA

Between nothing and £100+. I guess that is rough enough. :)

Well I asked for that.I was looking to see some of the higher end rates so as to put together a realistic claim, so I guess BA would be the one I'm looking for, or another major airline. Thanks for your reply.

OK - in the 'old days' BA used to base destination allowances on hotel 'meal costs' (generous ones at that!) in the location eg b/f £15 lunch £25, dinner £40, and obviously some spots were better than others! I can always recall the 'mainliners' ranting on about Switzerland.

The 'pay restructure' in the early 2000's took these away and replaced them with a daily rate. I am well out of touch with current rates and I doubt you'll get a Nigel 'owning up' to what they are now:eek:.

My current airline (like a lot of operators) pays, per hour, report to off duty at base, with no 'costs at destination' and to squeeze extra out of them for an expensive destination is a work of art. B&B is provided and all the rest is from your pocket. (Makes Cost Index 0 look appealing.....:)). Typical rates are in the £2-2.50 p/hr range. Quite 'skinny' in Iceland and Sweden, I can assure you! I would expect Virgin etc will have 'done a deal' to cope with more expensive locations although of course with the $ at............................

BA (pilots anyway) have adopted the TAFB allowance principle. Doesn't matter where you go, it comes in at about £2.80 per hour - oh and BTW, we only get board - no breakfast thrown in generally. Probably works out the same overall [30p extra per hour x 24hours = £7.20 vs a free breakfast].

I notice you have not mentioned 'LOA' and 'DOA' or whatever they are/were called? For the sake of completeness for our original query, I'm sure 'duffone' would like to know about the odd extra £10 you get/got - for the claim. Unless, of course, 'they' have taken that away too?

Ok, I forgot an additional daily allowance (£10 I believe) but in defence that is not a US allowance but one for any nightstop, and designed to maximise efficiency vs tax.

Yes, you are out of touch with the hourly rate - I provided my best guess of the current one (it started off at ~£2.50 and has increased in line with CPI/RPI since then).

Moving on.

Since no-one else has replied, DO, let's leave it as typically between £2-2.80 per hour report to off duty (normally chox+30) with a B&B hotel contract (hopefully with crew discount in the hotel). The taxman will take varying slices of it. It looks like around £40-65 nett before tax per 24 hrs. BA top out slightly better 'nett' than that (depending on your b/fast 'habits':)). Most crew hotels have a 'reasonable' crew breakfast contract rate which £10 will normally cover. VA and perhaps BMI are really the only other major UK airlines you should try to assess. If you need to know I suggest a PM to their forum mods to see if they will tell. Hope that helps - and you get the dosh.
