In my opinion this is an unacceptable practice, which is clearly taking advantage of those that effectively have no choice but to pay if they wish to work. Does anyone know if Ryanair are taking the £50 applications from applicants that are not type rated, or otherwise do not meet the minimum requirements? Billy the kid, I think you have made some good points here, I hope you here something soon. As a point of interest I will check out the “charging for application” laws, and post the findings in a thread.

When I spoke to Excel's MS she said there is a 6 months contract at £4.2K/pcm this is low, but they can't bond you. So if you become full time as a direct entry captain, what's the basic pay?
A BRS base would be nice! I'll call next week.

Hi SKYCLAMP,

Basic pay for a full-time Captain should be around £ 48,000 per year. My feeling is the people that Excel will take on early next year will be offered permanent contracts later on. This is only my opinion based on the industry starting already to pick-up and the British people still going on holiday. Come September 2002 things will be back to normal, if terrorists don't do some other flying stint...

Can anyone help me please?

I have completed an on-line application with Ryanair more than 3 weeks ago. I had not received an acknowledgement, but now it also turns out that there was no fee charged from my credit card either.

I have tried to call all the Ryanair numbers that I have, but none of them are accessible or in use.

What's the best I can do except re-applying or giving up?

:rolleyes: posted application late October, credit card charged immediately, still not even an acknowledgement!
I mean, even if its been fired straight into the bin, common courtesy and £50 would suggest such would not be unreasonable, or am I living in a dream world?
ps...Ryanair, if you read this i'm not a grudge bearer and believe its never too late!

Every application recieved by Ryanair has been responded to with the exception of twelve who failed to supply us with e-mail addresses therefore it was not possible to respond to them electronically. If you have applied and have not received a response to date please e-mail me with your specific query and I will respond to that.


17 pilots have already been recruited from the new database. We anticipate our recruitment needs being exclusively met from this database for the foreseeable future.

Gratefully just received relpy to application.
Believe some of above negativity relates to time frame of several weeks as opposed to the approximate 5 days Ryanair implies.
I'm sure there are reasons but all academic now anyways.

Count yourself lucky guys, I was interviewed for a Ryanair ground job earlier this year, (foot in the door, you know). I've yet to receive an answer.
Still thinking about it I suppose. At least I haven't been rejected, maybe they didn't want to disappoint me.
The last time a company did that to me, it went bust shortly after.

It is about time we stop complaining about this meaningless airliner. They are the mob of the airline industry.
- Asking money for viewing your resumé is one illegal and two a very bad example for other companies.
- Flying from a Belgian base, and not having a single Belgian pilot, is just arogant.
- Using the Belgian goverment support money to give away free tickets. Is just f***ing the Belgian people.
- and so on.

I hope we can drop the topic Ryanair for now. And start posting again when one of there planes come down because they are saving on fuel.

An Irish Chum of mine has just been through his type rating. He is well below 1000's of hours. He paid the 15k. His phone call went something like...
'We're looking at taking 3-6 guys about (his age) and married with kiddies. You fit the bill.'

From his mouth, not mine. He gave me the big impression it was WHO he knew and not whether you pay £50 or £100 by mistake. :) :)

I think its fair to say that a lot of people have a problem with Ryanair. You can sit here and bee-atch about the company and why they are screwing you around? Basically, Because they can! Accept it, its how big business works!! They probably have the EI cadets working for scraps!

I think its safe to say that its not gonna change so you might as well like it or lump it. It might take a few years but the management wont do anything until the standard of their pilots drop so much that you have a Cpt and a FO with a combined time of 200hrs on Microsoft Flight sim!

Recruitment Status

Our immediate recruitment needs are driven by the delivery of 8 Boeing 737-800’s. We took delivery of 3 of these aircraft in December 2001 and will receive 2 more before the end of February and the remaining 3 aircraft will arrive before next summer.

Non-rated Pilots for the B737-200 Fleet

We have and will continue to recruit non 737 rated pilots for our B737-200 fleet. These pilots will be offered a Ryanair B737 Type-rating contract at a cost of IEP£15,000. The training takes place at our new simulator facility at East Midlands Airport. To be offered a position with Ryanair you must not only successfully complete the course and the normal selection process but also demonstrate your suitability for hiring by Ryanair throughout your training. We will only be training pilots for positions which are available, we are only interested in training pilots for our own needs.

Rated pilots for our 200 Fleet

We have recruited 5 B737-200 rated pilots over the last 2 months who have gone straight onto our 200 fleet based at Stansted, Prestwick and Charleroi.


Non-rated Pilots for the B737-800 Fleet

We are recruiting both B737 rated and non B737 rated pilots for our 800 fleet. We have already recruited non B737 rated pilots who have completed initial training with Schreiner Ltd in Amsterdam and then Line Training with Ryanair. The next group will commence training with Schreiner in mid January 2002. Again these pilots have paid for their type-rating and provided they successfully complete training and the normal selection process they will be hired direct onto our B737-800 fleet.

B737 rated pilots for the B737-800 fleet

We are also recruiting direct entry B737-800 rated pilots and B737 3/4/5 rated pilots who require differences training. Our existing fleet of 15 B737-800 aircraft are currently base at Stansted Airport with 3 of our new aircraft being allocated to our new base at Hahn. We have recruited 4 B737 -3/4/5 pilots over the last month alone.

Once again thank you for submitting your application. We are exclusively recruiting pilots on-line, we will not be accepting applications or recruiting pilots through any other route. Our immediate recruitment will be continuing in line with the programme of delivery of B737-800 aircraft over the next 6 months. This new process is working very well for us so please be patient and hopefully we will be in contact with you.
