I'll let you make up your own minds of the wisdom of that course of action.

Whilst I can't disagree, I'd bet my right bo11ock that it just won't happen (at least in the current employment environment).

egcc42whatever

Non reducing bond over 3 years.
20 days holiday

Bank holidays will be taken care of through the new advanced rostering...

Smokie 22nd August 2006 18:26

They will certainly be taken care of, that's for certain. Especially if the company have their way and rob us of our DOILS. Although we voted to retain the original rostering system, it is not entirely as it was previously.
There are still moves afoot to steal our 8 DOILs.:ugh:

And as for the "New Contract" that was sneakily tried to be passed through the back door under the guise of,
"oh it is just to reflect the recent Name Change of the Company";
is probably the Best Swiss Cheese Contract I have seen for a long time.:=

Hirsutesme 23rd August 2006 11:35

Dont sign it then. Wasnt that advice given by the CC?

Ethics Gradient 24th August 2006 06:25

As this seems the most active Flybe topic around, anyone want to comment on the prospects for a DE command on the Dash at Exeter?
9 years experience, previous Turboprop command, jet FO just now and commuting into the middle of the country so EXT would be a huge reduction in driving as well as being able to do standby from home rather than a motorway services.:hmm:
Am I deluding myself or would I get home most days? Or reading between the lines is it so chaotic that the roster is meaningless?

AlphaCharlie 26th August 2006 09:54

I would have thought you stood an excellent chance of being considered for dec with that experience. As for exeter base, not sure how over/under crewed ext is at the moment. As for being home every night, you should be but the company is short on captains so the odd few days working from another base and staying in the local holiday inn is a strong probability from time to time.

Chesty Morgan 26th August 2006 10:34

Just to clarify AC's post.

I have spent nearly half my flying roster away from my home base in the last three months. About 5 WEEKS away from home in the last 3 months, no exaggeration. I may aswell be doing long haul. Granted it is the summer but that's not really the point is it? What did the COO's letter say "The enhanced lifestyle benefits of a regional airline"....riiiight!

I see no problem with a DEC but your base really depends where the shortages in crew are, unfortunately.

Are there any bases that seem to be consistently under-crewed or do the shortages crop up everywhere?

SR

Chesty Morgan 26th August 2006 11:08

Generally shortages crop up everywhere from time to time. It all depends on retirements/resignations, a change in aircraft numbers at a particular base. Some bases are more popular than others so people will be bidding to leave their base to move to another.

It seems to me that it's the Scottish bases (GLA/EDI) which are short of crew at the moment. But that's just my take on it, chaps from other bases may tell you differently.

Rumors from inside

I know, this should be in "Interview &..." tread but if something is moving, it would be better noticed from inside.

The infoline says that rec is closed and pool is full, but rumors are that it will re-opend aound Oct. Any chance? I have previously downloaded the endless form but (I apologize for my ingenuity) I do not understand the meaning of "P/UT" in the hours breakdown section...Anything to do with DUAL received? Thanks to those who can clarify.

Good luck

That would be "pilot under training" so yes, duel :ok:

Torycanyon 27th August 2006 13:27

I think that "Duel" is probably right!:E

Totally agree...We began fighting with planes that don't fly straight and level, then with HRs departments to get those CVs through and constantly with the bank...:{

In the past, when it was all about women, honour, guns or swords and foggy dawns it was easy to know who was the winner...:E

keep fighting then...BTW: any news from insiders?

FlyBE First Officers

FlyBE first officers you should be ashamed of yourselves. I'm sure you would all like a pay rise and yet you squandered the chance to have an F/O on the company council. Expect another pay proposal that benefits jet captains and training captains, like the previous one.:ugh:

I imagine about half the membership are F/Os so why can't there be one on the council?

Is it a closed shop, jobs for the boys and all that?

Without any representation on the CC, I have begun to wonder what union membership benefits there are.

I believe the call goes, "NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION"

Tea anyone?

Torycanyon 27th August 2006 22:20

I could not agree more. You took the words right out of my mouth.:D

Further to the replies by AC and CM.

Probably quite good, but don't plan to spend much time there. From my "Road Trips" over the last 3 months, BHD, BHX, EDI, GCI, JSY, NWI and SOU are all favourite destinations for some or all of your 5 to 6 day block. Changes happen on a continuous basis, often at short notice, to the point you wonder what the point of producing a roster really is. You may as well be on permanent "Standby" as Flybe's policy seems to be that during that 5 or 6 day period they can do anything they like with you. The only thing you can plan on is that you can't plan anything at all!

For a while it's all rather amusing, but when you finally wake up you realize the whole thing is a shambles and the distinctly average remuneration is not worth all the hassle. Basically, they're "crisis managing" but not quite succeeding. There are too many aeroplanes, not enough pilots and if rumours of a mass exodus in the next few months are even slightly close to the truth, then how the winter schedule with lots of new routes is going to be achievable, God only knows.

Roster stability could go a long way to fixing my particular grip, but then it's been tried before and if you can roster people up to the maximum, on a regular basis then who's going to back off a bit to give a bunch of "over paid" pilots a better life style?

Cynical? Me? Not a bit of it.

endofeng 28th August 2006 19:11

Or you could just do what most F/O's are doing or thinking about doing and vote with your feet and walk!

Couldn't agree more!

I voted for him! Still, it would tie a decent bloke to an airline where things just don't really add up - if SL has any sense he'll go where he'll be appreciated a bit more; for example, any other airline of a decent size!

Fo's in flybe should hang their heads.....

Torycanyon 30th August 2006 08:56

I think Banging their heads together would be more appropriate!:ugh: :ugh:

Hirsutesme 30th August 2006 08:57

What utter bilge you guys do talk sometimes. What do you do if your "elected F/O" gets promoted to captain, sling em off? And its a bit off to suggest that the guys on the flybe CC dont represent and fight for F/Os just as hard as they do for captains.
I assume the incumbents must be doing something right if they have been re-elected, or is that to obvious.
Stop whinging and get behind the CC, from what I've heard, things are building up nicely in flybe
