If I were a statistician, I would discount both your views and that of mcdatabase because they are on the extremes of the arguement. I agree that the management needed to be threatened, and that strike action needed to be threatened. But that has now been done. We should now be backing way off to allow the union to agree a deal, and to allow our business to get back to where it needs to be. But some people seem to relish the fact that we shook the company ! This is not a game (seen the loads recently ?) Last time I carried loads like this, I was about 3 months from a P45 ! Its over for now, let it be ... why continue to bang on about it ? What can be achieved by crusifying your colleagues (the ones who sit beside you and put the gear up and down - the ones whose company you enjoy for 8 hours a day) - get a grip. |

May have misjudged your exurberance somewhat, sorry, but couldn't help myself at the thought that baby provide a first rate air transport service. Laugh? I nearly did. I'm a bit concerned about some of the noises coming from BALPA HQ at the moment. I hope were not about to see capitulation on a grand scale just because the company is pleading poverty etc.! The strong mandate must be followed by action if there are no commitments to immediate improvements. The ramifications of a let-down of BALPA members again would be too severe to contemplate...

I sincerely hope we are not going to have a repeat of the 2004 fiasco in mainline. Nothing short of the full 2006 pay claim will be acceptable in my opinion, it is not unreasonable and sees us back on parity within the industry. I'm sure we'll all vote against it this time around until we get what is fair. |
That's if they let us vote and don't accept it on our behalf! I'm watching BALPA like a hawk at the moment, this is not the time to go all weak at the knees! I agree with Dr. Spin, nothing short of the BALPA 2006 pay claim would be acceptable. Our remuneration package is well below par and it needs to be redressed now, not promises a year from now etc. We've heard that all before...

We're still waiting to hear officially from BALPA (how bad is that????) on the outcome of negotiations.:mad:
However, from one of our CC it looks like we're being offered 1 DFOD converted to a day off (which is a no cost option for the company) and given the option to put the taxable element of our sector pay into our pension to avoid paying tax on it - again a no cost option for the company even though they have generously said they will pay any NI due on taxable sector pay into the pension. BALPA Gen Sec said in his newsletter that there was "a major shift in BMI Baby" and "a substantially new proposal for members to consider". In my opinion the above concessions don't fall into this category. :* Whilst the CC are sworn to secrecy, it appears the company are pleading poverty again. This simply doesn't wash when they continue to pay management profit bonuses. Assuming we get to vote on the proposal it will need to be a lot more substantial than this to secure a yes vote.:ugh: |

You are only being offered the chance to put some of the taxable portion of sector pay into your pension, not all. Hardly a major step forward after everything we have been through. |
We will have to get a vote on any proposals that BALPA have negotiated with the management. I for one will be calling BALPA HQ in the morning to enquire as to the state of play. If they give-in again to this company just like the last time it will be a total disgrace. BALPA has been given the strongest mandate possible by the bmi pilot body and it's up to them to extract improvements from the board or serve them with 7 days notice of industrial action. It's as simple as that...

British Airline Pilots’ Association Wednesday 6th September 2006 PILOT STRIKE AT bmi baby OFF: AGREEMENT REACHED The British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA) last night reached an agreement with the management of bmi baby, the low frills division of airline BMI with whom the union has been in dispute. Strike action will not now take place. The agreement has been signed by bmi baby and BALPA and is now going to pilots in bmi baby for ratification. It goes with the recommendation to accept from BALPA’s bmi baby company council of elected bmi baby pilots. Jim McAuslan, General Secretary of BALPA, said: ‘We had intense negotiations over seven days and we made substantial progress. The agreement doesn’t undo the imposed 2006 pay rise but generates far better lifestyle options for pilots in what is a very intensive industry. ‘In talks across all three BMI divisions we have also made progress on better understanding the reasons for the mutual distrust that pervades relationships between management and pilots - and on how we tackle the forthcoming pay round.’ Negotiations with BMI on disputes within two other divisions, BMI Mainline and BMI Regional, continued. The agreement has been signed by bmi baby and BALPA and is now going to pilots in bmi baby for ratification. So tell me if I've got this straight, cos I'm struggling with the logic. In chronological order... 1 ~ The baby pilots vote to go on strike. 2 ~ BALPA sign an agreement with baby management and say "Oops! Oh dear! The authority to strike lapsed, anyway! What a shame. Never mind.", or something along those lines, but with a cleverer (more practised?) use of bull***t? 3 ~ BALPA then say they'll ask the pilots if the fait accompli they just pulled off behind their backs was OK. That about correct? I'd sue BALPA if I were you lot! One way of getting a decent pay rise! :rolleyes: |
