Maersk/Sterling Any layoffs?

How is the atmosphere in the new company? any layoffs? will there be a bloddy fight over seniority? Or will this merger over in a flash with no reported turbulance, smooth as silk, and a model of all mergers. (the first in history)

Konkordski 27th October 2005 08:02

Sterling said in September that it was going to cut 13% of its personnel (about 230 staff), all technical and administrative - no flight crew to be axed.

Don't know if that'll change under FL.

Roumors are that Sterling will hire 26 pilots next year

FINpilot 28th October 2005 07:51

Does Sterling take DEC´s?

I guess the answer is NO but in that case any idea how long is the journey from right seat to left?

Right - the official word is that only about 130 jobs will be lost (others secured through Star Air and sale of the freight business to SAS). No flight crew jobs lost, in fact Sterling wants to increase the fleet.

Caraman 30th October 2005 19:33

Correct!

They will hire another 40 pilots until the first if April next year, but they will only hire tye rated pilots this time.

Time to command?

Yiihaa, I´m rated!;) Maybe time to move home...

Again, anybody about time to command?, and maybe terms and conditions (or should I check PPJN...)?

Sterling places great demands on its cockpit crew who is responsible for the passengers’ safety and comfort, in co-operation with the cabin crew.

This presupposes sense of responsibility, co-operational abilities and flexibility.

Being a pilot, you must be able to act quietly and well-balanced in critical and/or stressed situations.

You must be able to communicate with passengers and colleagues in English and one of the Scandinavian languages.

You will be working all hours, often under time pressure and with high job demands.
