THAT FAT LADY....

AAI doing both SFB tomorrow.............

Flymegirl 13th March 2004 06:56

Having just spoke to EAC crewing, you are right we are not operating either SFB flight this week... So its anyones guess whats going on as in the week we were all told everything was OK!!!

p1kty 13th March 2004 08:20

MAD AOR - its nice to see someone that has good things to be said about European.

I do have 2 SFB flight rostered in April, but who knows what will happen, in this industry its hard to tell from one day to the next.

To clear one thing up, im not too sure on the flight Crew aspect but Cabin Crew have not had pay cuts!!

I hope that the rumours about European are just that, as there are a lot of nice people in the company and it would be a great shame to so the airline go under!

mono 13th March 2004 10:30

Jack the Lad,

I am an engineering shift leader for an airline operating out of LGW. As you may or may not be aware in this industry it is common to get a call out of the blue requesting assistance or tooling to carry out a specific task.

I was informed by phone that should I get such a request NOT to assist, as the company had gone bust

Again as you may be aware when a lien is put on an a/c it covers all equipment on or in the a/c and whilst my company would no doubt get its equipment back there would be some grief getting it. So as a precaution my superiors requested we don't put ourselves in that position.

I was curious to know more hence the post. It is my belief that someone heard the story about money owed to BAA and their subsequent actions, put 2 and 2 together and made 5.

Sheesh, I post with a query following a phone call and some bloke I've never met says I'm talking bo**ocks. The wonders of the wiggly web eh??

This has turned into a rather large #itch fight .....

As these are anonymous forums the origins of the contributions may be opposite to what may be apparent. In fact the press may use it, or the unscrupulous, to elicit certain reactions.,

I hope the people who started this fishing exercise are happy with the muck they racked up ........

Flightrider 13th March 2004 20:39

The EUK120 Sanford service departed Gatwick a short while ago, replacing the EAF120 flight which is showing as cancelled. European's 747s are still operating as one has left Gatwick this morning on an ad-hoc flight for Panama City, due to return tomorrow. The ex-Virgin aircraft G-CCMA is reported to be returning to its lessor as soon as possible. The 737 programme continues as normal.

stormin norman 13th March 2004 23:49

European may have money worries, but it is a UK airline and as such deserves all the help it can get.
The uk aviation industry has been in the doldrums lately with
an influx of carriers using non British crews ,poor pay, along with engineering jobs being lost at an alarming rate to other countries. If European goes bust it will allow carriers like AA
to gain a bigger foothold in this country and ultimately move uk jobs elsewhere.

zfw 14th March 2004 01:22

Well im off on the 8th may to Sfb and i received this little statement with my details this morning............
"Now we are offering even more with our new 747 jumbo programmme............."

"This has been possible by changing the carrier of our non-stop 747 summer flying programme. It has now been contracted to our own exacting standards and specifications, with Excelavaiation, part of the Excel airways group, who are one of the Uks leading independant charter airline. As part of this change our aircraft are currently in the process of being re-branded with the Travel City Direct logo etc etc.................."

So looks like ill be off on the Air Atlanta uk version and not European...............

cessna l plate 14th March 2004 04:57

methinks someone has been sh@fted a good one!

Have recently heard that TCD have signed a 3 year deal with that well known aviation sweatshop Air Atlanta to operate SFB from MAN.

Shame, European always seemed to be a nice company, with real nice people working for them. Hope they survive!!!!!!!!!

And as for "our own exacting standards", I would hardly describe Atlantas aircraft as the nicest in the world.

iko wapi choo 14th March 2004 05:42

Excuse my ignorance but whats the whole relationship thing with Excel airways, Excel aviation and Air Atlanta Iceland / Air Atlanta Europe.. they all seem pretty chummy, planning to take over the world maybe..who does their ops and where..

XL ONE 14th March 2004 06:44

Air Atlata has always had a small stake in Excel, recently this was increased to 40%. They provide excel with 75 and 767s along with the maintenence and pilots. Air Atlanta Europe was set up to operate aircraft on the UK register (not just for excel) - don't know why exactly. Excel Aviation is the seat broker part of the excel group - they sell many of excels seats but also work with a large number of other carriers.

I know several great people at European, hope the company can overcome the problems and keep flying.

jmc757 14th March 2004 07:25

From http://www.travelcitydirect.co.uk...

"introducing TRAVEL CITY DIRECT FLIGHTS!
From May 2004 in addition to our current Air Atlanta Europe 747 flight’s Travel City Direct will commence flying with our own branded 747 jumbo jet services to Florida. Travel City Direct flights will still offer our renowned ‘Sunshine Economy Cabin’ but will have the additional benefit of leather seats in all cabins, new menu’s and complementary news paper before take off. "

Seems that EAAC have indeed lost the SFB contract to AAI. Have they been shafted big time here?? No-one can deny this is a big contract for them....

iko wapi choo 14th March 2004 08:19

I am interested to learn more about theses companies.. are they all based in iceland.. how many staff/aircrafts.. a profitable company i wonder..do they have any bases in the uk or just outstations.. where are their ops based.. are they any good staff.. a website maybe! i see also that there is an EUK (Atlanta Europe?) aircraft coming to us in Nairobi on 16 march for 1 day, a b762 i think.. maybe i will chat with the crew
thank you

buffy747 14th March 2004 09:43

All these different rumours have managed to upset ALOT of employees, I happen to work for the company, they are fantastic to work for.

I am interseted to know where the majority of the rumours started. :*

zfw 14th March 2004 10:10

Buffy...........

Unfortuantely not rumours have a look at the Travel city website, and ive got the proof in writing in front of me from my previous post.

Tech Delay 14th March 2004 12:04

If you look at the travel city website closely, it looks like all they are up to is increasing capaity! They say eight flights a week from Manchester, Gatwick and Glasgow! I know that european did not have that may flights leaving Manchester this summer! They also state that different cabin upgrades will be avaiable from April, May in the Atalanta aircraft in addition to the Sunshine cabins in the "Travel City Jumbo"! I think that TCD are trying to get a better deal out of European for the summer flights and thats what this week end is all about! However i could be wrong, but i hope not alot of peoples jobs hang in the balance this weekend!

rampman 14th March 2004 21:49

whilst on shift this afternoon *and this is only something i heard so its a rumours* that E.A have gone bust .... anyone tell me if this is true or not.

dada 14th March 2004 23:19

dunno, but of tcd have pulled the plug it won't do them any good.

buffy747 14th March 2004 23:25

Correct, they are just rumours.:*

gatwicknose 15th March 2004 07:34

2 + 2 = 7?

TCD web site says that they are introducing their own "Jumbos" with the same interior spec at EAF aircraft.

At least one ac is at Filton (paint shop)

Sources within EAAC referring to a 6 week break.

TCD "new" Jumbo service starts May 01?

EAAC still flying XJ for Swan hellenic

I for one cannot beleive that TCD , or anyone else for that matter, could contractually take business away from a carrier that is still operational less than 24 hours before the scheduled flight. There is something very fishy going on here,,,,rumour has it that PGS is on his way to aussieland to start his new low cost...can anyone make sense of this?
