Hard to believe how low some people go.

Sadly not an isolated case - and not unique to the present crisis. I've seen people do that many years ago because they were desperate for the recency required to apply to a given place. Whenever some airline asks for "last flight on type within the last X months" and the candidate hasn't got that, this sort of ugly things start happening.

True that unfortunately. Once such an email arrives, next thing you know is the manager offering a 50% pay cut "because, you see, I've got people willing to work for free and you should be thankful to have a paid job these days". The only lower level is someone offering to pay five digits for 300 or 500 hours.

I would not blame only him. I would also blame the system we currently live in. Profits is the top priority, human life or happiness - are on the bottom. I'd say he simply wants to stay current.

As an A320 captain myself... It's shocking to see this happening (if true!) for such a demanding job but specially because of the high responsibility we have.

Can it as well be trolling with no real intentions to fly for free? TRIs aren't normally desperate for hours and are in a somewhat higher demand than regular pilots even in the worst of times. 1500 hours is the bare minimum for enrollment onto the course, most airlines won't normally fund it unless you are a Captain with some considerable LHS experience, many also require you to have some time in the capacity of Line Training Captain or Initial Line Experience Captain. Not to mention that with a TRI you can also get a job as a sim instructor - and such positions come up here and there even these days.

You can become a TRI on Your own with one of the severals ATOs in Europe offering said course.
From there, with the minimum experience required (which is really a minimum) You can hunt for a TRE course somewhere ; always on your own.
All will be "limited" to simulator training and checking.

Nevertheless, you never know. We have seen worse with some P2F schemes.

Not necessarily ; might be the usual guy who thinks "I'll keep flying and current - so the moment a proper airline starts hiring I'll be current and screw all my colleagues !".
The above will hence set a new trend, i.e. keep current for free or book an A320 as You would hire a PA28 at your local flying club.
Companies will start providing P2F packages to keep current. 10, 20, or 50K Eur/USD for "time building" either on LHS/RHS.

I think this may have been a response to an advert by a Union asking for TRI and TREs to help out keeping members licences current if their made redundant.

I may be wrong, but if this is the case they’re helping out people in need in a dire time.

This is not the case I am afraid. There's a copy of the un-edited email circulating around, and it is addressed to an actual airline (very small one)

It could be either, really. What you're saying is correct. Nevertheles, the way the email is written and the choice of words used, indicate either a clever troll or what you are saying but with very bad English.

The text appears to be Croatian. A certain east European carrier headquartered in Hungary would be inerested for sure...

The brooker who fwd this e-mail is Croatian.
“ovo moram sacuvati” means “I have to save this” , him self not believing on a Free TRE.
All of us invested time, money and gave up dailly quality time with our famílies for this job.
This is not a hobbie. This is a hard demanding job. I’m sure nobody here thinks otherwise, but if you do, you are not an Aviator. You are just a piece of :mad:

If you choose not to, shame on you.

Not surprisingly at all ; as others have said, the general mentality amongst the pilot population is to always try and look for this little something that others did not reach or could not think about to be able to impress employers or colleagues. While sometimes this can be a positive way of thinking if applied correctly - in terms of safety for example - it becomes quickly detrimental when used against Your own colleagues, and that actually happens most of the time. The above is a perfect example ; Works for free, establishes a precedent and more will need to follow.
