Instructor rates

Can anybody say what are the rates of pay for commercial flight instructors in the UK, SEP or MEP IR? In particular what do you think should be the hourly rate for teaching the new "advanced UPRT" course on an aerobatic cat aircraft? Also what is the pay rate for a Multi Crew Cooperation Instructor on a fixed base FSTD?

Obviously nobody is officially 'qualified' by the CAA yet to deliver on-aircraft UPRT - in fact, the CAA haven't even approved any FCL.915(e) UPRT FI programmes yet, even though FCL.745.A becomes mandatory less than 2 weeks from now.

For me, delivery of on-aircraft UPRT is probably one of the most challenging aspects of being an FI (although I'm obviously biased!), and the pay rates should reflect that.

Thanks, I suppose that pay for UPRT instructing would depend on the qualifications and experience required of the instructor.

Basic UPRT which forms part of the CPL course can only be taught by an instructor holding a professional licence.

For the modular route, the advanced UPRT specified at FCL.745.A is not part of the CPL course and thus could be taught by a FI holding a PPL provided they have at least 500 hours total time and 200 hours instructing.

The advanced UPRT course will be a prerequisite to a professional pilot's first multi crew type rating and the theoretical knowledge will include a review of the aerodynamics of transport category aeroplanes, yet there is no requirement for the instructor to have experience of multi crew aircraft. Unlike teaching for a PPL, there is no requirement that a PPL FI teaching advanced UPRT must have passed CPL theory exams.

Normally one session per day, approx six hours; 1:45 preflight brief, 4 hour sim, 0:45 debrief.
