Thomas Cook Balearics

Is this a new Thomas Cook Airline based in Palma?
Any one know what the terms and conditions are like because they are asking for Direct Entry Captains and F/O 's on narrow body Airbus to be based in Majorca.
Is this the end for Thomas Cook UK because of Brexit maybe?
Answers on a postcard to the CAA "Sleeping on the job dept" whilst the entire UK airline business goes down the pan.

Yes - its their managements cynical attempt to undermine existing crew with cheaper labour.

SFCC 24th Nov 2017 21:47

Charlies Angel asks a rhetorical question as he is very much aware of the facts.
Pingu is really pushing the boat out now.

Looks like they are already securing people.Selection through OSM.Start next summer season.Pay around 80k gross...

Superpilot, I would certainly not consider myself, as from the arse end of the universe! However I do need a job, I do need to feed the kids, I do need to pay the mortgage etc.... where are these better jobs? The sandpit, China? What about the quality of live. What about the family.

I hope you’ve never been made redundant, and experienced the empty numbing sick feeling of worry.

I haven’t applied, but I might,

Please don’t a fence.

T&C's
Capt 5100-8000 Euro / month
FO 2900-3700
SO 2000
dependent on hrs.
60E per diem
8-12 days off depends on the programme
leave accrual 2.5 days per month worked.
Spanish statutory sick pay.

Draw your own conclusions.

A forced base move is rather different from redundancy.

Bernoulli 29th Nov 2017 08:51

I'll do a couple of years here, get some experience and then move on to a better job.

Oh.... wait.... there are no longer any decent jobs. They've all gone because they were undercut by bottom feeders like TCX Balearics and Ryanair.

Avoid.

Yes, it is different. Like an oncoming tsunami, your survival will depend on your exact position when it strikes. For some, the TC base closures will result in their leaving the business, so de facto redundancy, for others it will merely be an inconvenient extra commute. The point is, that TCABal is a very long thin wedge to be inserted where the currently employed pilots will find it most painful. While I can't blame RudderTrimZero discouraging people from applying for these jobs, we all know that people will do what is currently best for themselves. If I were unemployed with bills to pay, I'd probably be typing the application right now. But, it is worthwhile knowing that by doing so, you are also stabbing yourself in the back as the the only way for T&C's to go from here is down. 2k for a SO with no benefits, really?
How cheap will pilots sell themselves, I can tell you as it happened with the glut of GA pilots in the early 1990's. They will work for free, some will even pay for the privilege.

2k for a SFO with no benefits, really?
Thats euros, GBP equates to £1760.00. Given UK minimum wage is £7.50 and average working week 40hrs then this is only £560 more. Which effectively suggests that the SFO is regarded as being 47% better than minimum wage.

It's not happening, is it??.

Are you thinking of the link up with Niki Lauda that became Laudamotion.Believe that was canned because Ryanair came in and bought 75% of the company:=

safelife 2nd May 2018 20:17

The rumour here is that Balearics, having trouble crewing their planes in PMI, operating mostly out of Hanover and Paderborn, would considered to be integrated into the german TC Aviation (the Air Berlin spin off).

safelife 16th May 2018 14:55

Latest news, no more crew basing in PMI, all crew (FD and cabin) to be based Hanover.

macdo 16th May 2018 18:55

That'll make the job all the more attractive.

ShotOne 23rd May 2018 08:14

"Project to be discontinued" ? The sole driver of the project was to drive down pilot pay and conditions (nothing whatever to do with Brexit). To that end it's good for ALL pilots if the wicked plan is failing. But can anyone confirm or deny?

matt283 25th Aug 2018 20:16

I recently have seen a job offer for cabin crew based in MAD and PMI with thomas cook balearics... anybody can comment on that?
