Easy, maybe too Easy ?

This will undoubtedly appeal to some, but breaks new ground (unless I am mistaken ) as being the 1st LoCo to propose a seasonal contract (peeps have previously ended up with a month or two off in the Winter in the past with Ryanair, and we won't even speak about Norwegian the last few years, but, I believe this is the first " up front" Ad for a "permanent job" with less than 12mths work/year )

Captains - Type Rated & Non-Type Rated (Palma) job with easyJet | 1401444082

Don't know about being the first.
Jet2 will let you have as much time off as you want in the winter (on half pay, approximately) and you get to keep your permanent position, pension, pro rata holidays etc.
But yes, I'm sure many would be interested, especially non type rated pilots who fancy an Airbus rating.

Working out of Palma for a summer would be a grade one ball ache....:ugh:

....so you get a smaller slice of an already sub standard contract. Yippee!! It's advertised because those already in the company don't want it!

Why is that?

Denti 14th Jul 2016 03:41

Because Palma is a royal cluster:mad: in summer. We do have a lot of business in that market and it rips apart the whole network every summer.

Where they squeeze a year of flying into an 8 month random roster in Palma? LOL.

Expectations vs Reality.

I wonder. Years ago, in the early days of shared rosters, i.e. 2 x 50%, you worked 10/28 days. Trouble was there were no SBY's and no hour limits. Thus you could do 600hrs pa for 50% pay of a 900hr pilot. After BALPA arrived I understand this was restricted to 450hrs pa. If that is still the case then I would expect a pro-rata % of hours for 8 months if the contract paid 67% of a full time annual. However, if the pay rate/m was above the full timers'/m then a higher productivity rate is not so bad. There does need to be an understanding/calculation that the contract is not a cheepie alternative to employing people properly.

What would your experience of easyJet tell you to expect? An enjoyable part-time contract in the sun for non type-rated external candidates?

seen_the_box 14th Jul 2016 10:26

I'm fairly sure that there will be no hours cap with this contract. Expect to fly close to 100 hours per month for eight months on the bounce.

RAT 5 15th Jul 2016 15:16

It's not 'the cap' on hours, it's the rate of pay for the productivity produced that needs attention.
