Cargolux China
Just seen ad for Capt/FO's Rated and NTR .
Patterns seem resonable and accomodation provided in China. Any idea what the remuneration is like , ball park? |
https://www.career.aero/cargolux/en
FO: 8,379 euro Capt:14,500 euro non rated / 14,900 euro 744 rated Ballpark... |
Are those values net or gross? Paid in Luxembourg or China?
|
Is the travel back to Europe on your off days or on days?
|
Gross / net will almost never be the same for people due to married, not married, tax liable in home state or not, if tax liable then in which state are you tax liable etc etc... Salary info is, or should always at least be, stated as gross salary. Just saying....
|
Advertising these as basic salaries gives little insight into the actual contract. In my experience the advertised rates will be based on so many block hours, duty pay, away from base allowance. etc. Or not.
Tax in china is high. If CargoLux do not pay your china tax, then take-home will be half what you get gross. Google china tax rates. 45% on 80,001RMB and above. The elephant in the room is ability to pass AND maintain the CAAC medical. Good luck with this, unless you are a current astronaut. |
Tax could be the main issue there I agree. Anyone knows if there are extra's like sector pay / allowances / pension? Where would one pay his social security? Luxembourg or China or not at all?
|
Salary is in EUR, start and end of duty in EU. While on China they keep you in an hotel I guess so tax should be based on Lux rates. At least I hope so...
Right now the main problem is to pass the DLR! |
Pay Lux tax, i hope not !
From the gov lux tax calculator... Calculate your salary in Luxembourg. Net income calculation form All amounts shown are in euro, on a monthly basis. Tax category: 2 Advantages: 0.00 € Transport costs: 0.00 € Gross: 14500.00 € Health care: 406.00 € Health contributions: 36.25 € Pension: 1160.00 € Care insurance: 196.28 € 1798.53 € -1798.53 € Taxed income: 12895.00 € Tax: -3690.90 € Tax IEBT : -62.89 € Tax credit: 25.00 € Net: 8972.68 € As the subsidiary company is 70% owned by the Chinese, on a local IOC requiring CAAC licence and medical , its unlikly your contract will anything but Chinese based. Positioning home at your own cost? |
Anyone got a reply yet ? I wonder which profile they will choose...
|
After applying online , and presumably meeting the minimum requirements , you will receive an email asking you to agree to releasing your personal information to DLR Hamberg via the aero recruiting site.
DLR is the German equivalent of NASA, and conducts "fearsome " physiological tests for the DLR and/or third parties. After Germanwings, i guess they are a bit over cautious. I do get the impression that fluent German language skills are highly desirable , although not mentioned in basic job requirements. |
That release of information was standard even before the GWI crash.
|
...and has nothing to do with the German language. Tests for non-German companies are conducted in English.
|
"Tests for non-German companies are conducted in English"
This may be the case , but when the company's country of origin's official language is german and french, what relevance is english? On the online application, it asks for a candidates german language proficiency . Enough said. |
I worked in Lux and everyone spoke English. We all got along just fine. It's a multi national European company. The German lads spoke German to other German guys in private as is perfectly natural, why wouldn't they?? But when speaking to French, Dutch, Belgian, Norweigian, Luxembourgish or Brit, guess what, language was never a problem, even if someone didn't speak another language brilliantly, we all got along.
It's a friendly work place, the colleagues great and at no point did I ever feel un welcome just because I didn't speak German as a first language?! Be a shame to let such pointless rumours put people off. Look at the terms and decide if they're for you and will work. Thats where your main point of consideration lies. Can't speak for The China ops as they're after my time. As for the rest you'll find line wise no problem, fantastic people you fly with and we all managed to laugh over beers and a meal no matter where we came from. |
The overseas operation is majority Chinese owned, operated and requiring chinese licence. A whole new operation, but unlikly the memories of old days of flying with Cargolux would mean much. Crewed by a new bunch of non unionised contract flying staff, sounds like just another asian operator. Not same as FedEx who use regular guy but on basings.
But theres always hope somewhere, if you need it. |
Just applied for CLX China, did anyone received a answer already?
|
Assesment days from May until Aug 2016. Looks full on if what they send you is anything to go by. They say minimum 10 days study with the info they provide . Dont think you can pass without it they say!
The meat of the contract is not mentioned. Tax paid where? What the stated salary consists of ? Med cover incase you fail caac? |
Hi all i was told chinese tax AND tax in your EU residence country. I assume that if your residence country and china has a tax treaty tho all you pay is chinese tax? Anyone know?
|
Somebody knows about China taxation??? Roughly around which percentage?
Thank you |
45% is the top rate - which you will reach.
|
Wowww it's way too much!!! Even as FO ranking of a gross salary at around 8400€? It's really strange because I was expecting that being pie in eur the taxes have to be paid in euroland which in some countries the taxes are way too low than this 45%...
|
Well with that salary you maybe get away with 35%.
But you should pay tax only once, there or here. Most countries have treaties on double taxation with China. |
History for joint ventures in China has not been sucessful so far .
Jade Cargo , Lufthansa - Shenzen Airlines , now defunct Great Wall Cargo - Singapore Airlines and China Eastern , now defunct Cathat Pacific - Air China joint venture , now consolidated to another group. I'm guessing it will be well into 2017 before the regulatory hurdles are circumvented by Cargolux. If you must work for a Chinese carrier , who require you to keep a CAAC medical , stick to the established expat employers, who pay your China tax. Who would work in China and pay their own China tax when so many pay it for you? |
Everything must be clarified, here there are only suppositions but no one knows the details of the contract.
Cargolux is a powerful company, they well know their business and how to do it and I guess in case something goes wrong at least the European pilots could be considered saved and absorbed in the mainline. Also this story of the Chinese taxes is not clear because of you are paid in euros probably in an Europea bank account how you should pay the Chinese taxes? The contract is commuting, seems that duty starts and ends in lux. So here we are just guessing, now please is there someone who already passed the dlr and is going or went to the second stage? One its me, going for the interview. Any tips? |
Chinese Tax Calculators you can find on the internet assuming they are correct and assuming taxable in the PRC.
What about secondary benefits like daily allowances / LoL / Health Insurance / company pension schemes / etc? |
Is anybody else who passed the first stage and is heading towards the interview or already had the assessment in LUX or here there are only trolls who don't even know where LUX is?
|
By first stage do you mean sending in your CV and being sent the standard assessment invite?
If thats the case PM me as I'm at that stage, Have you received the DLR info? For an experienced captain I'm sure there are better ways of finding suitable candidates rather than than asking , for example, what causes weather or what the eustachian tube does? Their train set I guess. Seems they are going to build up a pool of acceptable pilots to commence in 2017. Will they then do the CAAC medical for candidates, who knows. Will there be Chinese trainers, as they are presumably be operating with a Chinese AOC? |
The elephant in the room is ability to pass AND maintain the CAAC medical. Good luck with this, unless you are a current astronaut. |
Some people are looking for excuses not to apply. Medicals do vary from region to region. But not unlike airforce med
|
That's absolutely true, people blames the company just because are scared to afford the dlr or because the big belly. I work with Chinese too, there are with me some "jelly" Venezuelan guys but until now they pass their medical (even with some comments and suggestions from that dept).

Hi, I just receive the date for the assessment in hamburg. June, however I had to choose another date, so July the second week will be.
Any tips for DLR? I was offered June the 2nd I have heard that DLR CBT is ok for training... Do you know what about SIM? |
Got the "you are on the waiting list" response. LHS
Does anyone know what kind of working contract is on offer? Direct employment or broker? EU or Chinese? Permanent or limited? |
Anyone got past the testing at DLR?? I assume sim ride, interview and medical next?? Any info on what is on offer?? They certainly seem to be keeping their cards close to their chest.
In respect of DLR - practice, practice and practice. :} |

The whole operation is still work in progress I believe. Nothing is concrete. If the Chinese are involved, expect extrapolated negotiations, even after everything seems agreed. This is the Chinese way.
There will be one slot avail in Aug, 'cos after looking at the DLR assesment required for DEC, im staying put in my present position . Too bloody old for all this nonsense! |
for those who already passed the dlr, which is the hardest part, there are 3 slots for interview and sim; the second, third week of june and the first of july.....
