Jet2 Assessment- Sept 2013
Hi guys I'm a 738 rated pilot with approx 400hrs on type to date.
Jet2 have offered me an assessment. I did however go through one of their assessment days back in 2011 as a non rated low hour pilot (cadet). The aptitude tests were over the top in my opinion. Needless to say I didn't get in. So I'll try again! Now that I'm rated, is the process the exact same?! If anyone has recently been through it. Please share any useful info! Many thanks. :-) |
Rumour has it that for Rated guys, they have dropped the tests.....this could be your lucky day! Good luck!

Yes I've heard this! But I might just have to go by what the website says. It's very general, but does indicate that there will be numerical and written assessments. I would have thought there would be more coverage on the matter!

Jet 2 interview?

How did you hear from them, call or email and how much notice did you get please? Anyone heard yet that applied for 2nd Officer position? |
I heard through email. They gave me a list of dates, and I chose the dates I was free and heard nothing back over a week later. I then rang Jet2 and they said they'll be in touch with the final details of the assessment day and confirmed my date.

Is that the e mail that says 'we are delighted you have applied for a position with Jet 2 ' etc. Then it says we will review your application and we will be in touch? Also are you 737 rated? |

Yes, I got the standard response email. I am referring to their careers website where you can track the progress of the application. But it would be interesting to hear if anyone has actually been rejected so far?
No, I am not rated on B737, unfortunately! |

Thanks but how do I check the progress of the application on the Jet 2 website please.I will go try to find out in the meantime. Looks like they may be flexible as our man above was type rated but had 400 hrs not the 500 they were asking for. |
On the main page of careers webpage, there is a link to the right hand side where you can log in with email/password, you then can check the application status.
The job advert stated 500 commercial hours, I believe, so the 400 on type could be improved with another type on the application? Are you rated on 737? Fingers crossed for us all! |
Jimmy, if you log into the website, i presume you applied via the job portal, you will be able to track your progress.

I am not rated but hope I will have a chance as I would love to work for Jet 2 I am ex Oxford Aviation College F/ATPL graduate. I have instructor background with 1000 hrs instructing and total 2000 hrs.Also 100 MEP time from air Taxi work. MCC and JOC LOFT/CRM around 100 hours in Boeing simulator 300, 400, 500, 800 variants.In recent flying practice.Don't know what else I could do really.I do consider I am experienced and when the chips are down I believe that it could be drawn upon. I am used to landing in crosswinds on limits or worse over limits when you have no choice! Many would lose it with only 200 hours I really believe that.(Go watch Terror in the Skies) episode 3 I think?! I have heard that Jet 2 don't have a particular Pilot stereotyped candidate, but consider all levels of experience.My main concern is my age and I just hope they really do look at people of all age groups as I read last time on the notes about the SSTR scheme that one of the minimum requirements was must be under 62 years of age. (I am not that old by the way), Just hope I can have a shot at this.I am sure they are excellent company to work for.Good salary not just paid when flying like that Irish lot! Also with many benefits and good term and conditions.Seems they actually care about there employees and reward them for their efforts through various schemes. Good luck to everyone who has applied. |
I believe they are looking for people who have worked in airlines in a multi crew environment with standard SOP's as this is big thing for them. Also looking for people who will pass the type course and line training as many have fallen by they wayside with this, hence the required latest LPC'S and OPC records.

Don't think that the second officer positions reflect that.Surely that's aimed at Pilots who have never been type rated.Otherwise they would be applying for the first officer positions.Last time they ran the SSTR scheme the candidate had to find the money or enter into a loan arrangement.The risk is all on the candidate right to the end of the type rating just like with Ryanair.By the time you finish the type rating you will know all the SOP's anyway. |

(Any recruiter, from any airline, will have worked out who you are quite easily from the info that you have given. Most companies, and not just in the flying business, have 'social media policies' now, so you could be seen as a future questionable risk there too. Just think before you post!) |

I fully agree that the guy's got himself into a great position for an airline job and for that I wish him all the best. Just don't go and foul it all up now with ill-advised postings!!

I agree with Trossie, Jet2 are big on their social media policy at the moment, as some within the company have found out to their cost recently! Good luck to all trying to join, it's not perfect but Jet2 is a decent place to work once you get on s permanent contract.

At the moment Jet2 are recruiting rated and non rated F/Os and Captains on the 737 fleet, rated F/Os and Captains on the 757 fleet and ab-initio S/Os. I cannot even begin to understand the number of applications that they have to sift through so I would be surprised if anyone in HR has currently got the time to trawl social media or rumour sites.
However once the dust has settled a bit and they’ve narrowed the applicants down to a small group of ‘definitely maybes’ they may start looking at social networks etc and if they have 2 very similar applicants with one post to fill then comments on these sites might be the deciding factor over who gets the job. Perhaps if JJP were to carry out a wee bit of judicial editing of their past posts now then no damage would be done should they fall under the social network microscope at a later date. |

Not sure that I have said much to be criticised about in my posts.Please read on. My reference to landing in a crosswind when I had no choice referred to my Instructing days when one could find yourself returning to the departure airfield or visiting another airport like Blackpool (coastal airport) and the wind could be gusting well above that which was forecast. My point as also about experience.I referenced the programme 'terror in the skies' because on that episode there were clearly aircraft struggling to land in a crosswind that was clearly 'out of limits' and it seems they on that occasion had no choice but to land either.Of course company policy should always be adhered to but all the facts of the situation must surely be evaluated.If low on fuel for example, it may well be that Captain makes a decision to land in consideration of the fact that he would be endangering the lives of all on board if he could not land.Nothing wrong with applying well taught CRM based princples. Second point illustrated in the programme is that every pilot is trained to a certain level of competency.This does not mean that all pilots are equally capable.Just as not all drivers could be formula one drivers.In this regard,refering to the film footage,in the same crosswind how was it that some palnes managed to land an one made at least two go arounds? |
There was a recent fairly well publicised incident where an aircraft made a missed approach at both ends of a very long runway (or at least dismissed the notion of the 2nd approach ? ) due to finding the tailwind out of company limits, but within the manufacturers limits.
A decision was made to divert & the aircraft landed with a bit less than final reserve fuel. Without wishing to be a Monday morning quarterback, I would say this displays what you are referring to . . . . . it is called experience & airmanship. Sometimes the small transgression may be preferable to taking a much greater risk. Only experience/judgement (or relative lack of) will influence your decision, good or bad. |

JJP I truly meant no criticism of anything that you’ve posted on here. What any individual chooses to post (within reasonable limits) is their own business so please accept my sincere apologies if I was not clear earlier.
If anything my post was more intended to point out that HR departments would not bother looking at any of these sites until the final stages of recruitment, if at all. Of course any pilot has choices to make regarding cross winds etc and may be compelled to land in circumstances beyond manufacturer or company imposed limits and every situation is unique and has to be judged in isolation. I didn’t catch the tv programme that you refer to. Good luck with the Jet2 and any other applications that you have in now or choose to submit in the future. |

No stress Jimmy, despite my many failings, if I write or say something that is perceived as being critical when that was not the intent, I like to think that I’m big enough and honourable enough to at least apologise and set the record straight. Probably not a very trendy thing to do these days but that’s just me.
As Boeing Europe has pointed out the thread is drifting way off topic so it’s time to let it get back to its original purpose. I look forward to reading about your success either with Jet2 or another operator in the near future. Until then stay safe and be careful in those bloody cross winds!!!!!!! I would put one of those thumbs up smiley things here but every time I try I get some weird symbol that looks nothing like a smiley so I’m afraid you’ll have to make do with a good old fashioned :-) |

It would appear that you may still apply for FO/Captain jobs across a multitude of rated or non rated opportunities, but that the SO job is no longer advertised.
I think that is perhaps what JJP meant? |
