Virgin Atlantic Hold Pool recruitment
Doors are opening,
Shame I dont have an Airbus or Boein Rating or 3000 hours!!!! Virgin Atlantic - Careers |
You've either got it or you haven't.............
25 yrs + and still red hot :\ |
25 years and still an FO.
|
Probably way too early, but when are the 787s expected to arrive (barring Boeing delays)? 2014? Will they replace A330s or the older 744s? Any talk about how they would be integrated and what they could replace? I realise most likely speculation at this point.
Good luck to those who apply! |
And have a requirement for non rated chaps perhaps! Surely there must be lots of retirements coming up at all the big players?
|
Thanks for the heads up. I'm signed up to the email alerts from Virgin careers but I didn't get one about this. Even in my junk folder, it's just the usual opportunities to enlarge parts of my anatomy.
Good luck everyone. I can imagine a lot of people fighting it out for this one. Sadly most will have a lot more experience than I have but it's worth a go. :( |
Anyone else having trouble uploading the cover letter?
I managed the CV fine but every time I try the cover letter it says you much select a file to upload,,, this after I HAVE selected the file!!! guessing a glitch on the system, very frustrating |
it's just the usual opportunities to enlarge parts of my anatomy. |
zerotohero,
I have the same result BUT the only 'starred' (required) item to upload seems to be the CV and I remember that only a CV was required last time (late 2011) too. If you just upload a CV then check the box saying the section is completed you are able to submit the application sans covering letter with no problem. So it looks like the covering letter is not a requirement and can't be submitted anyway (unless it is a bug as you say)...unless anyone disagrees? |
No issues submitting both here, although it did take a while to get on the website....hopefully I'm one up on those that submitted only a CV :E:E ;)
|
I bet it doesn't!
Judging from the chap I know who recently got the offer from Virgin, ratings, hours, long haul experience, command time etc are all completely irrelevant. Lord only knows what he wrote on his CV / covering letter. |
Perhaps it wasn't so much the letter as the £20 notes stapled between the pages. :ok:
|
does anyone has information about a typical pilot roster at Virgin Atlantic?
|
Anyone have a contact number? Would like to ask if there is likely to be a requirement for non-rated guys in the near future.
|
Some guys are having lots of time off after being at the legal limit of yearly flying hours.
|
Nowhere near the legal limit. Virgin have a union agreement to only fly 750 hours per annum. Join BA and then you can go for the full 900 hours.
By the way, when I first got into this game, the limit was 1,000 hours per annum. It was then possible to have a medical and go on for another 200 hours if you passed. |
Are VS still accepting applications? I've been on their website (under careers) and cannot see anything for Pilot Recruitment. Have I missed the window?
|
'fraid so - it closed on 04th June!
|
Email invites to interview have been sent. (so I am told)
|
Any idea if there are still people left in the pool from the last round?
|
No email for me, mind you having scraped over the 3,000 hours requirement the weekend before the application closed that's hardly surprising.
Good luck to anyone who was more fortunate. |
Ah so, good luck to those that got an interview.
Last time it was a 'Thank you but' email but this time is it no email indicating a failed application? |
I have no intent of being derisory whatsoever and I really don't want a slagging match, however why Virgin? Are your current positions so bad that you want to jump to VS? This is a company with a not so glowing reputation when times are challenging. The management have a history of being very cull happy. I used to hold aspirations towards them and to be honest I still harbour a little intrigue about them, however I know one or two have been burned badly in the past and one guy who is there presently who would do anything to take up opportunities elsewhere but is burdened by the necessity to be in the UK.
|
Well whatever they require is beyond me....not my first time applying and I have +5000tt with Airbus 330 and Boeing 737 time (about half on each)...no invite for me either. Can only guess it also goes on where you trained? I was modular back in the day.....
|
flyingbinlid, I know of quite a few Virgin Atlantic pilots who trained Modular, so I very much doubt this is the reason you haven't been accepted...
|
Out of interest do they notify you if you have been unsuccessful, or just if you have an interview?
|
No reply for me either and I applied within 6 hours of it opening! My third time applying - 3500hrs total. 3000hrs B737 inc. 1000hrs 73NG.
Last time I had an email saying thanks but no thanks, this time nothing so far. We'll see what happens when business opens tomorrow. |
I just got the no :-(
2nd time applying, 3800TT 3000NG |
I haven't got the V Factor - "And its a no from me". :ugh:
|
Got a no too. Third time unlucky. 4800TT B737, 757, 767, 777
|
Its a funny application process to get a 'yes' at this stage. At least with BA they ask a few questions where you can write small paragraphs about particular situations you've been in and how you handled them. With Virgin it's just a CV and cover note, and makes me wonder with guys meeting their minimum requirements, what is it exactly they are even looking for at this early stage.
I'm guessing no one gets called with the 3000 hours total jet time, it's more likely that hours wise you need at least that as co pilot, and preferably +1000 as Capt on top- but not too many hours as Capt. Would be easier to write that if it is the case, stop people without capt hours like me wasting their time. Would be interesting to note what people said that got them the nod at this stage, think next time round I'm going to make a big joke about it all and see if that gets me to stand out :ok: |
A clear, simple concise and interesting CV is normally a good place to start. Most of us on paper are near impossible to tell apart.
I reckon most of it is luck - just like life. |
Random75,
Really? If Virgin is turning down applicants with 777 experiece (without an interview) to fly their dilapidated 400s on the milk-run Whorelando and Caribbean routes (one FO on the 400 told me recently he was very bored and he hated the "bloody hot" Caribbean and Orlando flying in the summer), then perhaps you should look elsewhere. Really - Virgin's standards are either too high or their HR people are completely daft. :ugh: I realise a high percentage of Ryanair and Easy pilots apply once they hit a certain number of hours and it is difficult to stand-out if you are one of those pilots, but it sounds like the bar is going much higher and higher. Or you need to win the lotto/know somebody high in the organisation to get an interview. Unless you are attempting to return to the UK from the Middle East, perhaps you should follow the growth to the ME where your experience will be more appreciated... Good luck! |
Iver, I can promise you that his experience in the middle east will go entirely unappreciated and for you to expect otherwise shows that you have not been reading the replies to your endless and tiresome posts regarding Qatar Airways and others in the Middle East forum. You've already said that you don't meet the requirements for Qatar, much less Virgin Atlantic so quite why you insist in hanging around and pretending to be the font of knowledge is a mystery. You need to get out more or get a girlfriend.
Just because someone has flown a 777 does not necessarily make them the right person for Virgin, I know some 777 pilots who are an accident waiting to happen. Quite what relevance the age of Virgin's 744s has to do with your argument is another mystery. |
Getting personal now? Thanks old man. Now go back and teach Maverick and Goose how to fly.
And by the way, VS seems a shadow of what it used to be and it is trigger-happy when it comes to furloughing people. We are all entitled to our opinions - although yours is apparently superior to everyone else's. And I unfortunately flew on one of your 400s in the past year and yes - dilapidated and unimpressive. Your new, fresh 787s couldn't come any sooner from a passenger's perspective. I look forward to their arrival in 2014. BTW, I find the A340-600s acceptable/comfortable but the 400s seem old and worn. Even BA's product seems nicer - and it used to be the opposite. |
Eye, I understand your argument but I'm a 777 bod and not an accident waiting to happen.
It's their train set and they can take who they want but if they only want RY or Easy captains then they should say so. It's a waste of their and my time in me applying to them if it's not ever on the cards. I fly across the pond numerous times and through all the muck to the far east, I like a beer and get on with the bloke in the left seat. That I'm not a low cost short haul captain doesn't make me any less able to handle a problem south of Greenland! :} |
I think there seems to be some misconception that Virgin are only taking on low cost Captains. I attended an interview last year and not one of us there that day worked for Easy or Ryan, nor where any of us Captains. I also know of several people who have recently been hired with varying backgrounds and experience.
I don't know what it is they look for on a C.V or indeed what makes some stand out from the others. However they certainly don't seem to be taking any one specific group. So if you are interested in working for them just keep applying and hopefully your time will come. |
Iver - you talk a load of cr@p , in fact I can't stop laughing......
the ME where your experience will be more appreciated... Callsign Kilo - got fed up swimming round the BA hold pool ?? Decided to take your frustrations out here !! Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! |
Come on guys, let's keep this thread on track please....

Reply or No Reply ...
Hi All,
Haven't posted for a while, been settled in current job, however due to family reasons had looked at moving home and applied for this position. (73-8 Captain with 5,000TT ... 4,000 on 737) I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an actual reply ? As in a yes you have been or no you havent ? Thanks in advance, and good luck all |
