Iberia flags 20pc pilot pay cuts, more flying hours.

IAG unit Iberia could cut pilots' pay by 20 per cent as it fights to make cost cuts and launch a budget carrier to compete with other European low cost carriers including Ryanair and EasyJet.
As well as an across-the-board reduction in pay scales and lower perks levels for pilots with 15 years' seniority, the Spain-based airline also wants to increase pilots' flying hours and eliminate extra holidays for senior staff.

The proposals now are with Sepla, the pilots union, which already has announced pilots plan to strike every Monday and Friday for three and a half months, an action that could cost the airline up to EUR90 million.

Great go on strike and finish the company. Then tell us later how things are going in your family life In the middle east, Where you will end:=

And you find it funny ? At least these guys have the guts to go on strike to keep some amount of good T&Cs, unlike most of us here who will swallow any sorts of ridiculous conditions. I wouldn't blame IB pilots if were you.

The sad thing is of course that the strikes will achieve nothing, the changes proposed by Iberia will go through just as they did with the Spanish ATCO's dispute with AENA. Management attitude these days is that 'if you cant stand the heat bet out of the kitchen.'
Strikes are unfortunately the only recourse left to the workforce of any employer, negotiations mean nothing. The beancounters are running the world these days and ruining it.

Why bother to go on strike? If they are really worth that extra money, and those conditions, why not resign and get a job elsewhere?

Regrettably, this is true in the current climate, and I speak as a strong supporter of Trades Unions. The setting up by Iberia of a low-cost arm - Iberia Express - sounds to me like a last-ditch stand and has appeared at a time when the low-cost market is depressed and likely to get more so. I have flown with Iberia and have a friend who is a FO with them. I hope for his and his colleagues' sake it works out but I am not hopeful.

There's a thread running in T&E:

How can we UNITE to make AIRLINE profession one of respectability and better money?

Given first couple of post here, I'd say: no way!

Press cites average pilot wage bill of 200,000 euro per year for 650 flying hours.

The strike cripples their transfer traffic to South America from Heathrow (which is substantial) because they won´t offer the usual prices with the short haul leg on BA - and if you book Iberia right through they won´t rebook you on BA when the strike schedule is announced and your Iberia flight is cancelled.

Guess how I discovered this?
