Turkish Airlines THY Hires

Looks like Turkish Airlines just sacked a bunch of Expat Pilots they actually cannot do without if the schedule should have a minimum of chance to be realistic so THY is back on the market with the recruiter companies.

Check the contract if you put your head in that direction.
  • No vacation the first year, you earn only 20 days the first year to be spent following year. The initial contract is one year minus a day or two so when you are kicked out you will recieve no pay for the earned vacation as "You have not been employed one year, Sir" so make sure the contract is of minimum 1 year duration.
  • You can travel ID on THY the first year of employment, but that is taken away if contract is extended - travelling on ZED Ticket is a hazzle and far more expensive compared to ID Tickets on own airline.
  • THY Main Base is Ataturk International Airport IST however management claims Main Base is the city of Istanbul which means you have to provide own transport when scheduled flights out of SAW ( the other airport in Istanbul situated on the Asian side ) YOU pay and the transport ( 1-3 hours pending trafic ) is not included in daily Duty Time ( THY just announced start of more flights out of SAW ) Get it confirmed you base is one and only one base, Ataturk Airport IST !
  • Sickdays is a farce - thrusted expensive airplanes and extensive fuelsaving programs you cannot call sick without being cut in salary or spending days in the burocratic system of checks, stamps and signatures, misthrusted.
  • If you leave within the first year of a contract ( initial or the extended one ) THY Management holds back 7000+ EURO for Training Cost - YES you read it correct, they claim Training Cost even in the second contract.
Colleagues employed states schedule is a disaster of reschedulings and they look for lasting solutions on the above including a minimum 4 days at home every month and a travelling day before and after if they should stay much longer but noone gets any reply when they approach the management with their experienced problems.
If you go that way I hope the best for you and hope terms will improve.

I just think these lot are a born prodigy in the cockpit...I just wish I was as talented as this lot...They treet foriegn pilots like there own even though we are just no where near as good as them...I thought Morocon and Korean (RAM/KAL) pilots were most proffesional := no Turkish is the best hands down..just a good lot of guys:D

Hiring+Firing

You have to be out of a job if you want to take that risk of stepping in. The T&Cīs are a farce. You join today and can be out tomorrow. What you want to tell your family if that happens? No security at all. See also other Threads in Middle East and Terms and Conditions. Do a serious research before you go there and hurt yourself.

1500hrs

One reason for that is a clause in the OM-A the Cockpit Crew needs 1.500 hrs expirience on Type to operate without any restriction.

If they hire Pilots with less then 1.500 hrs they have to consider the crew composition whilst they do the scheduling first and, that is more likley, they restrict Turkish Pilots from operating independantly.

I see your desperation but times not looking that good at all and our profession goes down with that many self fundet people who pay for Type rating and even line training to jump ahead of cues. The result now is that expirienced people are on the street as Pizza deliveries to repay the interest rates of the course they took, sad but true.

Any updates ? Have anyone applied or have THY actually done anything constructive to try to stop the escape of their present scrinking expat group of pilots ? Thinking mainly of ID90 Tickets or Free Pass tickets on THY Flight too ones home and consecutive days off for their narrow fleet pilots like they offer the wide body fleet pilots - or perhaps THY just don't need pilots ?
