Monarch interviews

Hi Folks !

I was wondering if some people could tell if the interview with Monarch is still the same kind : I mean motivation / presentation + questions about the airline / the fleet / figures and so on. Are there any technical questions ?

Thanks for your help !

Unless HR have dug their claws in or one of the new top floor managers has decided to try and reinvent the wheel then you can expect the following:

Welcome.
Tea/Coffee accompanied by either a jammy dodger or custard cream.
In a room with 2 senior pilots (Chief Pilot and Training Manager maybe)
General chit chat with one of them about life and career history whilst the other looks through your log book.
What are they trying to establish???.......... Are you a good guy/gal, Can we sit next to you for X hours!
Swap over pilots - general chat about fleets, basings, T's and C's (new 9/3 contract)

Simples :ok::ok: System works - Great bunch of people at Monarch, V Professional and personable. Guaranteed a great day out at work.

Good luck!!

How did you manage to get an interview with monarch?! I didnt even know they were recruiting. ..

ATIS 3rd Feb 2012 11:47

Exactly as stated above. Hardest question I got, was which biscuit would I prefer.

General chit chat. Can they fly with you and have a beer with you downroute. They do look seriously into previous flying experience due to the nature of our ops. Eg. 0200Z approach into a greek island with a VOR. Doesn't matter that a particular island is Captain only at night, you have to be able to back your buddy up.

Good luck to any up coming interviews. I've been at MON for over 5yrs and have no intention of leaving. The crew, front and back, are a joy to fly with.

If you've been offered an interview, you've already passed the biggest hurdle

same question ;)

I've been in there hold pool for a long time and no joy

A lot of the comments above were very accurate. However there is an established HR element now, and times have moved on. Although the interview is likely to be straightforward and involve less hoops to jump through that many similar ones, don't be complacent or take anything for granted.

As PilotsOfTheCaribbean said really.

It's still a relaxed and friendly affair, but with a couple of groups of questions. If I remember correctly it was something like a few "give me an example.." questions, a few tech questions (pretty basic stuff) and few "how would you..." questions.

Holdpool?? Guys have been interviewing this week and last week for a course in late April, no holdpool as far as I'm aware.

Dan 98 4th Feb 2012 13:59

Are they only interviewing TR on the Bus?

Thanks

Yes they are.

serf 4th Feb 2012 16:00

Is it common for crews to be staying in the Premier Inn when downroute, or were the crew I saw just unlucky?

GONE FLYING 4th Feb 2012 18:53

My interview was a couple of years ago got a letter that I was in there hold pool no news.So monarch does not have a hold Pool anymore??

T6NL 5th Feb 2012 19:36

G F - Do you have an A320 type rating? If not, I suspect they won't be interested at the moment.

GONE FLYING 5th Feb 2012 20:11

Yes I do have a current a320 rating with low hours on type all done in the uk at gatwick. It's just strange how you have an interview and get told your in the hold pool then they take on ctc cadets and call in guys for more interviews as well. :ugh::ugh:

Superpilot 5th Feb 2012 20:27

I think Monarch is one of those airlines where the holdpool is cleaned up once in a while (12-18 months). When did you interview?

GONE FLYING 5th Feb 2012 20:37

A Couple of years ago. They should have at least sent a letter out to guys that had spent the time to go to the interviews telling them it was being dissolved. Might take a look at ezy through Parc .

PilotsOfTheCaribbean 5th Feb 2012 21:56

GF, Just looking at your posting history. Tell me you haven't really spent nearly 4 years (since May 2008) sitting around waiting for them to phone?

Callsign Kilo 5th Feb 2012 22:08

Interesting. My experience of holdpools suggest that prolonged waiting times result in obvious frustration and uncertainty for the floater. It usually also results in the related company raising contact from time to time in order to enquire into your health, to provide an update on their position and to discuss your currency. Lack of currency generally leads to lack of interest.

Alternatively personnel change or recruitment policy shiftings can lead to you being caught out in the cold. A lot has happened in a few years. It seems little may have happened with you? I'd maybe give them a ring and get the lowdown.

GONE FLYING 5th Feb 2012 22:43

Well the past 3 and a half years has been bad for most airlines ie:credit crunch, now euro zone going tits, and the uk threat of a double dip recession. So as far as waiting around the answer is no,I have been trying lots of different options but as you know with lots of carriers going bust there are a lot of pilots out there with plenty of hours on type looking for a job. Just poor timing, 2008 I had a interview with Bmi cancelled, interview with monarch placed in hold pool, interview with Air Arabia passed there assessment but put on hold. :ouch:

BlackandBrown 6th Feb 2012 08:42

Why don't you stay with your current airline? You can't have that low hours on the airbus if you've been flying it since 2008. You are lucky to have those interviews but unlucky to have not converted them.
