Ah well Nearly Man, it looks like I'm stuck in the "Saving the World" fleet rather than your gas guzzlers! ;) and anyhow you see a lot more sand on your beach than I do!! :p

Hi,
Is the pilot recruitment closed already? I can't find any jobs available using "pilots" and "first officer"..... |
Think it shut yesterday!
|
Does anyone have some information about the latest interviews?
|
I've heard nothing yet
|
Love_joy
Have you done the interview recently? If so, could you give some information about what to expect... Thanks |
Stjuk, have you received in interview date then?
I know many people that have applied and as far as I am aware none of them has received a response from Virgin yet. However, they are all Airbus rated and I see that you are Boeing rated so maybe they are after Boeing guys. Has anybody received a response from Virgin yet? |
I understand that several people from the last recruitment drive, who were deemed suitable but not offered an interview, have been contacted and interviewed. My guess is that Virgin will work through those applicants before moving on to the current batch.
Best of luck to all. |
Anyone heard anything from the last recruiting round yet?
|
I should imagine we won't hear anything til at least after Christmas.. I haven't had a peep yet.
|
Emails have gone out for interviews.
Got one the other day. Good luck everyone. |
Hi
Just wondering, to all those that have an interview invite (btw...nice work), have any of you got just A320 time or have you got 'Wide-body' experience? Also, did many of you upload a covering letter? Thanks m2m |
I eat my hat, got a PFO email today. Not surprised, i'm pretty low houred compared to the specs - good luck all who have interviews
Horgy |
PFO,
8000hrs, 5 years command. Oh well, i don't mind a PFO as long as some pilots decided it and not some YTS trainee HR bod |
PFO (again).
6200TT, 3000 P1 (737/757 mix), LTC. Given the interview slots appear to be decided on only qualifications (e.g. no BA style questions), seriously, what do you have to do to get an interview?! Crazy... |
Me too...PFO again!
4200 TT mostly 737 1000 PIC 737 Still, a Virgin FO once told me they say, join Virgin....gain a stone, lose a home. Maybe I'm better off...can't afford to do either! ;) Safe flying! :ok: |
Not trying to be disrespectful. Just throwing some questions out to those who are interested in VS. Can someone help me understand what is the big attraction to Virgin? Why would someone leave a command at Ryan or Easy to sit as an FO at Virgin for 15 years at lower pay? If you get the 747, you have very limited routes (Caribbean and Orlando in the summer is bloody hot). I guess you have newer 787s coming in a few years and the FAs are very attractive - those are some positives. If you can't stand the Ryan and Easy schedules, I guess VS would be an improvement.
Just trying to under the rationale considering the very long upgrade time. Any thoughts? Happy holidays! |
4500 TT - 1200 PIC (737) PFO...
|
6000 TT, 2800 737, PFO. No idea what they are looking for, but whatever it was I didn't have it.
Attraction of VS: I don't have a job at the moment. |

LTC 7000hrs 75/767 PFO and unemployed........
The attraction in VS for me is 1) a job 2) I don't have to leave home (again) |
Postern.......a reality check for some of us!
Best of luck to you mate! :ok: |
No PFO or interview. I was obviously in the chief pilot's "unlucky pilots" pile.
|
Likewise - not heard anything.....
|
Artie,
I should think they probably have a large number of applications to sift through. If it were me, I'd have a "Yes", "No", and a "We'll come back to you later" pile. Perhaps you are in the latter. Remember No news is good news. |
PFO for me :(, 4700TT, 1000 on A330 rest on the 737. Not too fussed probably looking at command where I am now within 3 years, wide body too. Good luck to everyone else. :ok:
|
8,000 hours. 757,767,320,321,330. 1,500 command hours and a no thanks. Has anyone managed a come to the next stage ? God knows what they are looking for.....
|
Maybe some of you are just too experienced. VS are aware of just how long time to command is in the company and don't want pilots with huge hours and command time who are going to be very disgrntled about having to wait another 12 to 15 years to get in the left hand seat again. There have been a number of those in VS. Many have left and many of those who are still there aren't happy bunnies.
|
Got to say guys, I think they are going through the motions. They already probably have a load of guys from Thomas Cook good to go, but have to advertise the slots in order to make it legal IMHO. Some of you guys would prob walk into the job normally, but they have a bunch of type rated peeps who are ready .....and desperate for work soon. Got the PFO myself, but just scraped the hours, so expecting it at may stage. Good luck to anyone who has snuck through!!
|
PFO for me as well. 5000 TT with more than 3000 on A330 and 1500 on A320. Wtf
Cheers guys |
i think it a case of who you know not what you know?
|
I know someone with no relevant type rating, relatively modest hours and no internal connections who is joining (from last round of recruitment).
Perhaps it's the perceived quality of what you write on your CV and covering letter rather than just having x,000 hours that gets you an interview. Who knows, certainly not me, as I am still waiting for my PFO /interview. |
Yep i can second that i have a friend who had an interview in Nov no relevant TR doesn't know anyone to influence things.....starts on the 747 in March!!!
Who knows how it works!!! Good luck to those still waiting to hear..... |
From what I understand from a Virgin insider, recommendations from current Virgin crew no longer work as they used to.
As has been suggested, apparently HR screening of CVs and decent covering letters is the process to select people for interview. Hours / experience are important but the way they are presented with your covering letter etc is key. I don't have any more info and this was what a current Virgin Capt told me a few months ago. |

Ahh yes, PFO email too, 4500 hrs 757 and widebody, plane that is. I had mates with 340 and a couple with 747 ratings and they got same.
HUman Remains have taken over the show but if it goes on a fluffy letter then there you go. I have a well paid job so no great shakes |
Play their little game.
Virgin HR these days are led by cretins. In fact, as regards pilot selection they have been for years. They are following the example set by BA. And this is not sour grapes; I was selected for them. Who better to judge, than an inappropriate candidate? My pals who joined them have not enjoyed the experience, although a job is a job when all is said and done.
For those who need to join VS though, just play their silly game. |
I relish the day when airline bean counters realize that downsizing airline HR/Recruitment departments could save them cash.
The CAA/FAA/JAA award/renew me a license based on successful completion of a CAA/FAA/JAA syllabus. What more do you need to know about a pilot when his employment is being considered that you can't gain from a quick peek at his training file and a chat in the canteen? The whole business is utterly ludicrous in a world that is looking for efficiencies, unless of course, you have no faith in the regulator... But Virgin used to do it like the above AFAIK.... |

That he or she is not a total knob-head perhaps? No-one ever requested my training file and even if they did - it fails to inform them of my personality, merely that I am of average ability which is enough to pass the CAA requirements to work. |

No-one ever requested my training file and even if they did - it fails to inform them of my personality, merely that I am of average ability which is enough to pass the CAA requirements to work. I remain to be convinced that multiple levels of HR screening deliver a better pilot to the flightdeck than good old-fashioned (cheap) commonsense. |
