Wizzair Command Take Home Pay

Hi,

Can anyone give the info on Wizz take home pay for Captains based in general?

How do you pay your taxes etc?

Finally, how is the company performing? Is it a stable environment?

I see they are recruiting currently for the aircarft being delivered this year and any info gratefully received.

captplaystation 7th Mar 2009 12:45

Is Virgin really that bad ?
Don't believe you will like the money, from what I can glean reading here & elsewhere.
I see them arriving "awfully" early in the morning in places like BVA, GRO etc and I know some of their last departures leave very late = home even later.
Think Ryanair with a side-stick & less money, albeit with probably prettier Cabin Crew (Calendar Girls excepted :ok: )

macrobus2006 7th Mar 2009 16:32

Hi,
Take home pay depends on base but best solution is to be with confair contract and take care of paying your own taxes. Pay is obviously not as good as easyjet or ryanair but living or commuting in eastern europe is also cheaper.
The company seems to be doing ok considering many other airlines cutting back.
Some flights depart early in the morning but duty days are not any worst than other low cost. Likewise for the evening flights.
I guess you can say that it's like ryanair with side stick but wizz staff is more friendly and in general people here enjoy their work.

Recently attended their interview/assessment day. Pay for captain (dec) is poor - slightly better if you are type rated. Pay is reduced by a third during training and there is no sector pay during training either. They give 30 days accommodation or an allowance if you end up being based where you are not domiciled. When the sector pay kicks in (following line training) then the pay can almost double. Only bases on offer were in Ukraine and Romania, none in Poland. Seem like a good outfit, but at the end of the day they are low cost.

stansdead 9th Mar 2009 20:43

Thanks so far guys. All further info received with thanks.

Captplaystation... One can always ask a reasonable question. Virgin, like everyone are having a tough year. There are packages on offer for sabbaticals etc currently. Why not look about?

captplaystation 9th Mar 2009 22:01

Indeed, and if you are 340 rated (as you are if I remember ? ) no pesky bonds or TR's to pay for.
My other half is Romanian & therefore I have visited the country. Most of the positions seem to be there, I would recommend visiting the country yourself before making a decision. There is bad . . . and also good, but it isn't everyones cup of tea.
As you have done the RYR thing you know lo-cost (or locost as the French call it. . . maybe not without reason  ) BTW did you not get any response to your overtures to rejoin the Mikey-club ?

stansdead 10th Mar 2009 07:52

I think you may be confusing me with a colleague of mine... a certain Capt Ted Crilly who was hoping to go back to FR.

Wizz could be an opportunity in these troubled times you see.

captplaystation 10th Mar 2009 08:24

Ah, Mea Culpa . . . indeed I was.
Reading the other threads on here they seem to have kept people hanging on a lot after selection. I would be careful to have a confirmed start date before instigating an unpaid sabbatical.
Enjoy the "flying tampon" :hmm: (the colours not the aircraft type :D )

stansdead 10th Mar 2009 13:03

Wise advice. Will watch carefully. Thanks.

Capt Ted Crilly 10th Mar 2009 14:34

hope this helps

rather you than me buddy,i didnt realise that you were in the bottom 50 at vs?? or are you??

it was a pre-emptive strike re-joining the mickey-club,might work out might not, only time will tell,i would rather have a head start on everyone else.

thedick 10th Mar 2009 20:19

hello there. I have been offered a DEC position with Wizz .
I would appreciate to get some kind of t & c or is it just contract?
how is the pay , sector pay or is there any housing allowances in base.
what will be the base for new guys

thanks in advance...:ok:

dcsagcs 12th Mar 2009 12:23

Take it easy guys!!!!

VSVS 14th Mar 2009 13:33

Guys,

Hi guys,

Anyone shed some light on the Tax situation at Wizz and the various bases.

Many Thanks

Apollo 100 14th Mar 2009 20:59

Tax

For UK residents. If you are on a Storm contract you will be paid pre tax Euros to a bank of your choice (via International Pilot Services in the Channel Islands) If you intend to live in the UK for more than 90 days of the tax year you will have to pay full UK income tax and NI contributions through self assessment. Not as complicated as it sounds and any decent accountant can do it for you. The Confair contract is much the same except they pay directly and not through IPS.

VSVS 14th Mar 2009 21:09

Cheers Apollo,

I will not be resident in the Uk, so will check out the details for where I Live.
Any idea which bases are available and which are most/least popular.
Cheers for now,

VSVS

Apollo 100 14th Mar 2009 22:17

Most expats try to get a base that has good connections to home. I dont know which bases they are recruiting for at the moment, they change on a regular basis but you can always apply to move base once you are in. New base opening in PRG in the next couple of months, looks like a nice city!

Aussie 15th Mar 2009 14:30

PRG is already open :)

EAM 18th Mar 2009 18:23

WIZZ is still looking for CPTs, got a call from STORM today.
They need CPTs right now, exCollegue who is in WIZZ told be they are about 6-8 CPTs under at KTW.

Aussie 19th Mar 2009 01:27

Im told theres a heap of applicants to Wizz these days, even with many hrs on the A320, so they shouldnt be short on anyone! Recruit! Plenty of drivers to choose from these days.

EAM 19th Mar 2009 08:03

Quite strange with the low pay they offer.

Aussie 20th Mar 2009 00:41

Yeah you would think so, but so many out of work with this crisis, that they figure low pay is still better then no pay!

Birdon 20th Mar 2009 11:25

you are right Mr. Aussie but unfortunately for Wizz the training department is disorganized and is simply incapable of coping with the demand. Some restructuring wouldn't harm and is probably on the way too. As for the low salary it's the price people are ready to pay during the crisis.

EAM 20th Mar 2009 14:49

Sad but true.

flytheplane 20th Mar 2009 15:40

Everybody is talking about the low pay....:bored:
Don`t forget that the basic salary is less than a half of your salary. You have to add your leg payment.(i`m talking about wizz hungary!)
Compare your gross to other companies in this region. Some DEC changed from Majors to Wizz!A big issue is also taxation in your country of residence of course.

VSVS 9th Apr 2009 05:47

How is the company doing in the current climate ?

How financially sound are they and how are the Pax/yield figures looking.

Answers on a postcard............

seventhreedriver 9th Apr 2009 06:28

The yield, I dunno, but the flights out of Cluj are quite OK (150+)... And even though the salary is not the highest in Europe, we get it on time...

matkat 9th Apr 2009 08:43

I was contacted a couple of weeks back about an engineering management position, turns out you had to pay to get to the interview(and all costs) no accomodation or transport and all that for 2000ish GBP per month, I made my excuses and declined:eek:

Birdon 13th Apr 2009 21:10

matkat this is typical for Hungarian eastern mentality they are always loosing it on small details.

sonicguy 5th May 2009 09:34

is Wizzair still recruiting DEC?

What s the average pay with sectors?

What bases can be expected?

Aussie 5th May 2009 16:23

just stopped recruiting im told, SEPT perhaps the next drive.

yellow Baron 17th Sep 2009 07:04

Good morning to all .

I am looking at wizzair for a DEC position
can anyone send me some infos about the selection ?

Thanks

tripleng 17th Sep 2009 09:33

Also infos regarding rated f/o will be really appreciated (t&c, salary, cpt upgrading, etc).

Many tks.

Dct_Bombi 17th Sep 2009 21:11

What agency if any supply contractors for Wizzair now, pay rates and basing for FO's and likely bases.....

Birdon 18th Sep 2009 06:24

check confair and storm aviation. Pay rates according to the crisis.

airfixed 18th Sep 2009 14:17

I attended the selection process in Feb this year. It was held at Alteon LGW and consisted of an intro to the company followed by a short interview and then a short SIM assessment in an A320. I think there were about 24 of us in total there.

As they do everyone on the same day there is lots of hanging around, firstly for the interview and then for the SIM. The Pilot training manager who does the SIM assessment also does the interview so that tended to slow things up. I arrived at 0930 and left aroound 1800. The only base on offer was Kiev, but of course that may have changed.

From memory the interview was not too arduous - no really deep technical questions. It was conducted by an HR person and the PTM - be prepared to answer the usual CRM questions, especially if going for DEC (PM me for more specifics if you wish). Read up on the Airbus philosophy (laws etc...) so that you have a basic understanding. I wasn't type rated so if you have the Airbus rating then I would expect more specific questions on type.

Although they send you the SIM profiles (speeds, pitch attitudes and limitations etc...), due time constraints my SIM ended up being condensed and all they were looking for was an acurate ILS, basic EFATO control, SE ILS and GA. Lasted about 20 mins!

They seem like a nice company, certainly friends who are there are reasonably happy. I understand that there have been (and maybe still are) major disagreements in the pilot management hireachy, but then what company doesn't have those issues?

Look carefully at the package and make sure it is right for you. Once on line the money is not too bad for the current climate, but whilst training (inc' LT) it is poor with no flight pay. However they were offering a free TR (with a bond), so on balance it may not be so bad - your decision!

tripleng 18th Sep 2009 16:13

Does someone know how long does it take to have been called for the interview after having submitted the apllication?
Many tks in advance.

stansdead 19th Sep 2009 00:05

Dunno about FO's, but Skippers pay varies on the sectors you fly.

Captain basic is Euro 40k
New Captain earns 36k basic for first 6 months from Command check.

Sector pay:
Short 60 Euro
Medium 72 Euro
Long 84 Euro

In a busy month as a new Captain, you can earn 6500 Euro plus. Quiet months 5000 to 5500 Euro.

You have to arrange your own Taxes. And believe me, you will have to pay them....

I believe there is no more Direct Command for guys who have lots of hours, but no previous Command time. Some were lucky enough to get this route in the past. Me included.

So, in summary, it's not the highest paying job, but it's expanding and seems to do ok.

Bases: Most likely Katowice, Gdansk, Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara or Sofia? But this is just guessing.

I believe there may now be waiting lists for Prague, Budapest, Poznan, Warsaw.

No idea about Kiev.

Not sure about "Management battles". They all seem to get on well from what I see.

The airline is growing up. The "old days" of flying club standards are LONG GONE!! There is a real, consistent and durable drive towards strong SOP's, safe operation and good training. Cowboys need not apply anymore.

Wizz is a pretty good place to be right now.

Stratobus 19th Sep 2009 13:38

I called them and emailed CV because the application forms didn't come through on my laptop. Nice lady call me back and tell me I could come next week for chat, didn't want to go through agency. Captains must have command time 500hrs on jets for DEC. Pay will be discussed by about 4000e plus fly pay, less tax.. She say if you don't pay tax it can give to big problems

yellow Baron 20th Sep 2009 14:22

I have send my application on the 10.09.09 but still no news
did anybody get a anwser from them ?
looking for a DEC position.

Garba51 20th Sep 2009 14:32

Hi Yellow Baron,

To answer your question, I think they won't give any news until the 5th of Oct 2009 which is the max date to submit applications.

Good luck.

Garba.
