Project Lauren interview

Has anyone been to an interview yet, that could give a heads up. I have mine in ten days time at LHR. Thanks guys/gals!

Sean Dell 19th Dec 2007 10:19

Good luck with the interview tflier - you are aware that there is a stand off between BA pilots and BA management over this. Could very well get nasty - that's of course if PL is signed off by the board of BA. Don't hand in your notice yet!

Was approved finally by the BA board on monday-according to mate of ours who is on the 757 course now..apparantly they are really keen to hear exactly why you want to join at the interview..

airba 20th Dec 2007 08:12

Is there still no solution between BALPA and BA management about this?

"mate of ours who is on the 757 course now"
Has Project Lauren started training 757 pilots?

Rotors 21st Dec 2007 11:18

"Has Project Lauren started training 757 pilots?"

not at cranebank as far as i can gather

Interview / Any News

Dear All,
@tflier,

would anybody be so kind and give brief note on the selection process for OpenSkies/Project Lauren, e.g.:

- type of interviews beeing used?
- sim-screenings
- group exercises
- type of technical interviews etc.

Is the selection similar to the BA Mainline or different? Looking forward to your help!

sidtheesexist 19th Jan 2008 10:54

As far as I'm aware, an agreement between BA and BALPA has most definitely NOT been reached.........The BACC should be announcing their position v shortly. I presume you guys have been following the other threads on PL/OS? There is a huge amount of anger and concern amongst the BA pilots.......could get v messy.........be warned at what you are potentially getting yourselves involved in!!!!!!!

payoo 20th Jan 2008 07:08

@sidtheesexist: I dont care at all about any BALPA or something else OpenSkies maybe just a new job experience for me.

Is there anybody, that can offer help or has experience with the selection process?

Being French which is I assume is what you are should make this simple. New job or not BALPA (The big pilots union at BA) is not finished with BA over who/when/where/how these jets will be crewed.

Good luck with the selection but to be honest you are better off to apply to BA directly as many guys from Europe do and avoid the headache that may arise from your goal of working for this start up.

Trouble is brewing and better off to avoid it if you ask me. I think a a few BA pilots may agree.

:ok::ok::ok:

Tandemrotor 21st Jan 2008 00:15

I absolutely agree.

Helmut F. 22nd Jan 2008 18:14

Does anyone have an idea what to expect? Thanks!

randomair 22nd Jan 2008 21:05

Have any of you seen the pay and conditions offered? I cannot see at all why anyone would want to work for this outfit....why not just apply to ba mainline and if you don't get in, try again next year?

As an FO you would even be better off at one of the charters, with the added benefit of not having to go back and forward across the Atlantic every week. Looking at the Captains terms, they look fairly similar to every other charter out there.

Is joining this fragile startup really worth the risk at the moment, what with all the potential industrial action planned?

Tandemrotor 22nd Jan 2008 23:06

TWELVE Atlantic crossings in a clapped out 757 in 26 days!!

WOW!

No wonder BA are proud to claim they are recruiting from a "different pool" to their own recruits.

People with " Different Technical ability, psychological makeup, and different number/analytical skills."

No **** Sherlock!

On the Straight and Level 22nd Jan 2008 23:19

Do they have a web site that mentions the T & C's along with an application page?

Min Drag 23rd Jan 2008 08:47

If people are willing to consider it then that's up to them. Those going for interview are fully aware of the terms and conditions - maybe if they're still willing to consider it actually suits them!?

As far as the clapped out 757's etc are concerned - you should be grateful that BA have looked elsewhere for their pilots after all.:ok:

At least "clapped out 757s" have engines that don't "auto shut down" on short finals!!!:E:E:E

Info about T&C and selection are on above topic.

'...after careful consideration ... you were not successful on this occasion...'

Letter was posted to correct name and address but wrong country!!

Very careful consideration.

Where do I apply to Open skies?

Dave Bloke 26th Jan 2008 10:31

Can I draw your attention to the IFALPA Recruitment ban now in place for Open Skies.

You will not be doing yourself any favours whatsoever by applying to Open Skies at the moment.

Well said Dave.
Do not be a Scab people!

mightymouse111 26th Jan 2008 16:03

Do not be a scab! Thats easy to say when you are in work and can feed your family!

Dave Bloke 26th Jan 2008 20:10

Thats easy to say when you are in work and can feed your family!
Perhaps. Please keep in mind that a BA/BALPA dispute at this level is not something to be trapped in the middle of. Rumour has it that other companies are recruiting as well.

As far as Open Skies is concerned, I would seriously advocate waiting until an agreement is reached (and it will be) before you apply. If you don't, likely as not you will be a pariah and potentially leave yourself unemployable. If you wait, at best you could end up on the BA seniority list and in the long run, your family will thank you.

Do yourself a favour. Hang on for a few weeks until there is an outcome.

overstress 27th Jan 2008 21:10

I am in work and can feed my family. I also get emails every week from a recruitment website, bombarding me with job offers.

BA mainline need 200 pilots in the next 12 months. Why risk being an outcast in a dodgy start-up experiment with a dubious future, when you could join mainline on vastly superior terms??

hotel hopper 27th Jan 2008 22:30

BA need nearer 300 pilots by early 2009 to meet the needs of the expansion plan. Longhaul and shorthaul positions will be available.
The managers are so concerned about the ability to attract enough applicants that a new ab-initio course will almost ceratainly be starting up in the near future.

Tandemrotor 28th Jan 2008 03:53

mighty mouse

There are plenty of jobs out there.

Don't be a scab. This is going to get very messy!

You'll be caught in the middle!

Your family won't thank you for being unemployable!

Dan Winterland 28th Jan 2008 04:34

OK, so it's easy to say if you're in a job. But if people accept this, it will have an effect on all terms and conditions for many jobs in the future. Sell out now for a bit of easy money and accept that you will earn less in the future. But I would say that if you are good enough to get throught the BA recruitment bullsh!t (which I'm assuming there is some of with this job) you are good enough to get a better job elsewhere.

And don't underestimate an IFALPA ban. There are a lot of companies out there who respect them and you could make yourself unemployable, not to mention a pariah.
