Emirates Interviews
Just been invited to Dubai for 3 days in Sep. Anybody going worked out a good deal for an airfare from UK? (Yep you have to make your own way out there!)
Any comments about recent selection process and especially their "fast track" promotion scheme would be gratefully received. :) |
Their fast track isn't much faster that the "slow" track since the newhires are all experiences pilots. Usually with commands on B737 type of equipment.
Good luck to you |
Lostinbru,
Any idea which aircraft are you likely to be posted on? Do you know if you have a choice in the matter (maybe based on previous experience)? If you do have a choice for aircraft types, which would you choose? Cheers |
Lostinbru ,
How long did you wait between when you applied and the time you got invited? From dus on ek or ba from london are the cheapest. |
Congrats on the interview LostinBRU, best of luck when you get there.
Just out of interest how long were you in the hold-pool and how many hours do you have . I see from you profile that you are a 146/RJ Capt assume it's with Sabena? :) :) :) |
I am up for interview with Emirates soon. Any advise or knowledge on the interview and selection process would be appreciated.
|
Thanks for the replies guys.
Sorry for the delay, but change of plan. I've been offered an A320 course for a LHR based operator. So decision time..... solid offer of job versus interview with odds of ???:1 after shelling out for the airfare. Billy small balls took the solid job offer... For info, about 6 months between online application and invite for interview, and yes, with Sabena at the moment. Best of luck to those applying/going. :D [ 19 August 2001: Message edited by: lostinBRU ] |
Who is the LHR operator if you don't mind me asking. Is it the one with the wavy or straight blue line? Either way your pension will be far better than anything achievable in the sand pit!! You have probably made the correct move for the longer term :)

Lost in Bruss,
You will have to change your handle;;; To lost on M25;;; Make sure you dont end up at 146 ProspectWay!!! Cheap ticket try the r2 office!!! Good luck in your new job   |
A little further info on Emirates interviews...OK so you have to make your own way here, but Emirates is currently inviting 40plus pilots to DXB each month....lot of revenue seats. On arrival candidates are picked up at the airport and taken to a five star hotel for four nights, meals allowance, and transport provided. Pilots are encouraged to bring their wives who are taken on tours of the city, accommodation areas, schools and shops!!!!!!If successful you will have the opportunity to fly virtually brand new aircraft, A330 and B777 (the A300/A310 fleet is being withdrawn). Routes are a mixture of short, medium and long haul day and night flights. Full preferential bidding system based on a rotating seniority system, which can provide upto 14-16 consecutive days off over 2 roster periods.

DoneThat,
Any idea on how fast is the hold pool "moving"? I've been in the hold pool for 6 months; could I expect a invitation eventually with 4500TT (3000 heavy-jet as F/O)? Just wondering... Cheers, |
Jopa,
All I know is that, you need to send your updated CV after 6 months if you have been in the pool that long. |
Nice to read the replies here for EK interviews without all that bitching and carrying on. Been here a few years and it's still a good airline to work for and without the hassles of union matters. I think overall the guys are happy here and the job is one of the best going. Good luck for anyone coming over for an interview. An air ticket even paid in full is worth the effort and expense!!
|
Brownoser,
Couple of questions for you: 1. What experience did you have prior to joining Emirates? (to see an example of what is required for consideration...) 2. What type do you fly? 3. What is the likelihood of getting a 777 FO position if that is your preferred when starting out? Cheers |
Fellows,
Any chance they recruit DEC, I mean, more than 10,000 hr TT guys with plenty of wide body command experience? |
wondering : will ER apply a correction factor for mil flying time to get over the 2500 hrs ? should one bother to apply not having flown civ aircraft?
Thanks to whoever knows about a mil entry into ER  |
hornet,
MIL time is fine, but you do need the 2500hrs. The more the better to get a command. Don't think any conversion will be added though. |
LAVDUMPER,
I had about 4500 hrs on jet turbine aircraft when I applied and I waited about 18 months for my imterview but from what I hear some guys are getting interview dates as quickly as one month from applying. It seems that EK are looking at jet turbine (at least 1000 hrs) rated guys. Also they seem to be looking at multi-crew ops and an airline background (though not mandatory). I am currently on the Airbus fleet but it seems that there are no choices of A330 or B777 for new joiners. I think EK puts you on either aircraft type based on the availability of transition courses and new aircraft arriving. Good luck. |
Just a quick note to any emirates wannabes. This is not an anti emirates message, just a statement of fact that highlights one of the problems here in the sandpit. Part of the contract/conditions here is that emirates cover your medical expenses, and your families medical expenses via an insurance scheme. There are a lot of hospitals in Dxb but only one of them is considered satisfactory, the American Hospital (Emirates doctors words, not mine). We have recently been advised that the emirates clinic are not to refer any patients to that hospital in the future, and if anyone insists on going to the American hospital, they will have to pay a 20% surcharge. I am not sure yet whether that is 20% of the bill or 20% on the insurance premium. Either way it highlights the indiscriminate way the company can, and does change the conditions of employment here.

I have just sent off an e-mail application, can anybody let me know what the schooling situation is in Dubai for primary and/or secondary schools.
Many thanks. [ 02 September 2001: Message edited by: Max Burner ] |
Why Do you want to go to school in DBX Max burner?? :D :D :D
|
Nads,
I guess that was to be DXB. Now write it out 100 times and show it to me in the morning. Max Burner, Nads's spelling is no reflection of schooling in the sandpit. Its just that positions are hard to find, and if you don't mind a Brit system of education its all OK. :D :D :D |
I just can’t get anything back from them, I’ve filled in the on-line application twice, and all I’ve had is the automated e-mail of receipt.
3000hrs mostly 757. Is this typical? |
I've just been placed in their "Hold Pool" too. The email (computer generated) makes for interesting reading though.
1) Being in the Hold Pool does not guarantee an interview. 2) Market forces dictate the above, meaning you could spend months waiting, only to drop out of the "Pool" if someone better qualified or experienced comes along. 3) It appears the Pool has a limited capacity which again means an applicant already on hold can be bumped out and advised that their application has been unsuccessful. Those working for EK may be able to offer more knowledge than I on this matter, but that's how I read it. |
Yeah
|
4300hrs, Command, shorthaul European on jets, ex-mil (heavy jets) if they want it with instructor experience, mid 30s, very keen to join, still waiting after 5 months in the pool (at least the waters warm). Well I don't know what else I could have done to interest them, except have the correct type ratings. It's a weird selection procedure to get to Dubai, it has got to be the old mates network me thinks, anyone want to sponsor me lads from within?
Heres still waiting patiently!!! |
Let me assure you....It is NOT the old boy network, far from it.
|
I've heard that Aussies who joined our domestics during the '89 dispute don't get considered, as a lot of our "Ex's" are up there in management positions. Can anyone confirm or deny that?
|
Just a rumour....but I heard that all ex 89er's are not being considered at EK.
|
This does not seem like the right time to join EK. I would think that the will be severly affected of the present situation. Comments?
|
On another note!
Just wondering, would somebody have a clue of next interview dates or is it done on a regular basis so far? Also, for next deliveries what will be the number of crew requiered for hiring? Cheers, SCAB: Still Collecting All Benefits |
Are Emirates still recruiting?
|
It's a well-known fact that the recruiting department is all Australian, and human nature is such that you would have a better chance getting hired if you changed your accent.
Listen to all the Emirates aircraft on the radio it's not very often you hear a non- Australian accent. On a very positive note, at least we know where all the 89'ers are! :) |
No scabs in '89...some resigned, others picked up where they left off, some returned...some tried and were knocked back...MMMMMMMMMMMM...know at least two returnees who subsequently went to EK...one accepted...one is now unemployed in OZ...one big circle ain't it?
|
TEX,
If you excluded all the Kiwi's, Yarpies, Brits and Itialians (not to mention the others), you would be absolutely correct in saying that EK recruiting is all Australian. Research my boy, try it next time. You will have to find some other excuse for not making the team now. It is true that there are alot of Ozmates with EK. And would you believe it that some of them were not involved in 89?!! If you are interested in any info about this company this is a good place to get it. If you want to lick your wounds about being below average and not getting in, go somewhere else. Why not try Fantasy Island where Bigbutt hangs out. I guess I would be one of those rude, loud mouthed Aussies you like listening to on the radio. (Cheaper than 0055 numbers I guess, but each to their own) All that I did not mention the rugby once. Not bad hey? Madcat |
By the looks of your post...you probably are indeed one of those......
|
How are Emirates fairing after the recent events? I would guess that it is a bad time to move to the bottom of anybodys seniority list.
|
Mad,
Actually, I have never even applied to Emirates and at least for the foreseeable future, do not intend doing so - things aren't looking too stable out in your part of the world at the moment. My information comes from friends that I have within Emirates, a couple of which have been with the company for many years. 'The spots of the leopard and the stripes of the tiger are as brilliant as ever...' George Bernard Shaw ;) |
I'm paddling around in the EK 'Hold Pool' at the moment, and rumour has it that there is a complete freeze on tech crew employment. This 'rumour' also includes SE Asia. Anyone know if there is any validity in this?
|
Theres a whole group of pilots being interviewed in october and the emirates still has the recuitment open in their web sites. I suppose its never too late to apply. Good Luck to all
