AAI SACKS 100's of Pilots

As of 6pm today, emails have gone out to 100s of guys.

Some contracts seem to have been lost.

If anyone knows of an opening for a 6000hr B747 typed FO with 1600 on the jumbo, please PM.

Thanks

Flight Detent 4th Feb 2006 11:31

Ohh.....You thought AAI and it's agents would honour your contract when it didn't suit them....how quaint!!!

I had a similar adventure with IAC when Air Pacific stopped overnight, during the political coupe back about the year 2000!

Good Luck, :ugh:

BusyB 4th Feb 2006 13:52

AAIGuy,
Apply to Cathay for the freighters. See Fragrant Harbour Forum.

AAIGUY 4th Feb 2006 14:44

I was thinking about it. I am in TST now (I've been HKG based) and a lot of my buddies work there. I may give Monica a meet and greet on Monday... Not sure how many walk ins they get, but who knows:)

Hey, I am 30, have a tonne of Command, 6000 total,1500 as a FO on the
B747 and been living as an Expat for 3 years................ What's not to love???:ok:

despegue 4th Feb 2006 15:09

We have a club? Is that like a union? Can I grieve this?:E

Just kidding, it was a kick in the nuts 3 hrs ago after hanging out at the Beach in Mo Wou today, but it'll work out.

LASPILOT 4th Feb 2006 15:21

Sorry to hear about the troubles at AAI. Which contracts did they loose? Are you send on 'vacation' or terminated? For those US pilots on the 747 who are let go PM me and I might be able to help some of you in the near future.

Jerry says that AAI called it a layoff, but he is making it a termination so we can get the 2 weeks pay. The re start is set for Mayish for us, but not firm.........

What you don't like Canadians ???

Seriously, there are a lot of jobs at Southern, Focus, ect... The American group should fare well

Blue-Footed Boobie 4th Feb 2006 17:19

Forgive my sheltered life but who is AAI?

doubleu-anker 4th Feb 2006 17:48

Sad news guys. I hope you all find work soon before they get a chance to take you back on. In that way they have to spent a fortune on training new people It's a cancer that crept in over the years. Furlowed they call it in the states.

When I look back at the number of people that walked out on that lot at AAI, they didn't care less. That money that was wasted could have been spent on keeping some of you on over the bad times. A very poor company indeed, in my view. Their staff relations I thought were appalling. I guess they are so stupid, to think that when staff are re hired they will have the same dedication.

Earl 5th Feb 2006 04:01

Glue ball is correct, Saudia is interviewing and hiring right now.
747 Captains and F/O position, information and salary is on the climb to 350 website.
Saudia is also looking for Cockpit Ground Instructors all equipment.
Also a few other 747 jobs listed in the USA.
Sorry to hear the bad news.
Earl

I downloaded the APP. IS there a quicker way than mailing it, to get them to review it?

ironbutt57 5th Feb 2006 08:46

SIN cargo as well....Emirates, the jobs are there...sad to hear....

The Yank 5th Feb 2006 08:58

I though it was more like 20 crews. Where did you see more? How did they decide who was let go... by base... time of service.... what? I was just talking to an engineer last night and he found out that they are letting go 40 ground engineers. Sad day all round. Good luck to all that have been let go.

Earl 5th Feb 2006 09:42

Requirement for 747 F/O now on Saudias new hire list.
Good Luck Guys.

Doug the Head 5th Feb 2006 09:59

Some contracts seem to have been lost.
Any clue to which contracts have been lost?

All the best to those affected.

AAIGUY 5th Feb 2006 10:12

I just got an email from a buddy in KUL..They had a meeting with the CP.

Immediate downsize from 125 crews to 85 crews. Roughly 120 guys now. Possibly more next Friday.

Just finished my SIN app. Doing my Saudia one next..

AAI might have a bit of a suprise when they recall in May.......

captaink 5th Feb 2006 10:28

No suprises at all. Lots of donkeys with a licence available at any time.

doubleu-anker 5th Feb 2006 10:38

Quiet right, "pay oats and you get donkeys.

How very nice..

I don't think my $9000 tax free dollars I take home this month is oats.

despegue 5th Feb 2006 10:56

doubleu-anker,

Donkeys?...

I presume, that you have no idea about who actually flies/flew for AAI/ Islandsflug on the various types.
Do you call ex-Sabena pilots Donkeys?
Do you call ex-Olympic pilots Donkeys?

the AAI contracts were among the best, if not THE best in the industry.

I've certainly seen more donkeys in the Emirates than I've seen in Iceland.

18-Wheeler 5th Feb 2006 10:56

Some of those figures are way out.
We have about 105 crews on the 747, they are letting 20 go to get down to 85.
That is what the Cheif Pilot said last Friday in KL.
That's about 60 people, not 'hundreds'.

despegue 5th Feb 2006 11:11

18-Wheeler,

don't forget the redundancies on the other fleets please.
AAI is NOT only B747...

Too true, apologies.

So far I haven't got my marching orders .... fingers crossed!

2 weeks ago they let go of 8 Capts 1 FO and 8 FE
Last week another 18 - 3 of each
This week, Jerry told me it was 20 Capts, 21 FO, and 20 FE
So thats 100 so far on the B747 Classic.
B747-400 lost a bunch,
B737 is gone.......
More are coming.
The letter I received from the KUL Capt said there were 135 crew in MAY 05 and May 06 were to be 85. I wasn't there, I am only reporting the info.

doubleu-anker 5th Feb 2006 21:28

AAIGUY

9 grand a month take home? Not too shabby admittedly, for a F/O.

Now, from your salary, take away 9 grand for every month you are out of work (with all of 2 weeks notice) through no fault of your own. Then see if you are taking home $108,000 per year.

I hope you find work soon but there is no garantee you will.

Harrier46 5th Feb 2006 21:38

Does anybody actually know WHY there are redundancies? The question has been asked twice but no answer that I can see. Let's have the whole story please!!!

MaxBlow 5th Feb 2006 22:11

best contract in the industry ?

...quite right ! But only for a handfull guys in the cold land.:bored:

Left Wing 6th Feb 2006 03:53

pls run to India ASAP; 747-400, 777, 737NG, A320, 340 Capts needed.

True, but I had two phone calls and one interview today already.
It is 9K every month, but averaged in the high 7's or 8's.

This month believe it or not we are all getting a bonus from the stock offering which I have been unofficial told is the reason for this down turn. IE..To make the Q1 numbers look good.

VS1711 6th Feb 2006 12:28

Reason for AAI Layoffs

I would expect it's mainly due to the Hajj ending in the next week or so. AAI ramps up quite a lot to fly the Hajj (rarely quite enough, but that's another story) and now it's over they have more pilots than they have work.

It's a shame for those involved. Are they at least observing last-in/first out?

AAIGUY 7th Feb 2006 07:43

19 more of each today.

another 57 total.

Apparently this is the end of the bloodbath.

Jerry O Springer 7th Feb 2006 10:09

B'Jesus Joseph & Mary Lads! Its been a whoile oy know, but oym here to remind you aal dat its you oy'm tinkin of. You loovely laads dat's bin lining me paackets wit yer dollers trough d years. Tink of me bottom loine wit d reduced pilot numbers...:{ Oh T' be sure oy want you baak jus as sooon as modder of devine god allows! Catch yersel's on wit me my dears :{

doubleu-anker 7th Feb 2006 12:27

Ha

See, everything will be ok chaps. Jerry's back and on your side.

BTW Jerry, have you been helping those poor guy's find alternate employment? Of course you have.

AAIGUY 7th Feb 2006 12:29

Actually, Jerry is helping with other work.

In fact all of AAI from crewplanning up has been great during these unfortunate events. It sucks for sure, but we will get thru it.

Atlanta-Driver 8th Feb 2006 03:38

Why: Business is slow and getting slower. A need to streamline to show shareholders that AAI is a "Dynamic" company that reacts swiftly to changes and market conditions.

Though probably the most vocal, cockpit crews are not the only ones affected by these redundancies. Maintenance and operations are losing 40 to 60 people from each group.

B737 gone and B744 layoffs over for the time being the brunt will now be carried by the B757/B767 and B747 "Classic" pilots and flight engineers.

First layoff was what could be called "Spring cleaning" with 8 Captains 2 F/O's and 8 F/E's fired. By the looks of it these latest layoffs where based on date of hire and age.
