You are reporting the Seasonal figures. EasyJet reports twice yearly - interims and finals, unlike RYR which reports only once a year i.e. finals.

Most carriers make a loss through the winter period, but this is offset by the summer period when they (should) make their money.

Last years full figures for EJ were a PROFIT of about £52 million with this years figures expected to be broadly the same despite a significant increase in fuel costs.

To summarise - easyJet IS a profitable company.

We have this nonsense every year. NO, the Company is not making a loss, quite the opposite it is scheduled to make a profit for the FULL year circa 50-60 Million, I believe was the last estimate.

Airlines historically make a loss in the winter and achieve a full tax year profit, following the productive summer months.

Easyjet is therefore, one of the most profitable airlines this country has ever seen.

Although as others have said there are by no means an ideal company to work for, as least with FR you know where you stand with the no bullsh!t what you see is what you get ethic. No american group hugging management horlicks, just hard nose take it or **** off!

I find myself basically in agreement with Flaps One and Colonel Klink. There is so much that is right at easyJet - some serious tweaks could just make it so much better.

You are so right, but it won't happen until the management sees that pilots leaving in droves, poor morale and a potential parking of aircraft against the fence is a bigger issue than the costs involved in keeping them happy, or there is an accident. The only time they will care is when the flying stops, so I hope you are patient!!

Let me tell you something - like Constant Speed DU, I am so glad I left EZY!

I now work for one of the world's most profitable airlines, usually fly about 12 days per month and take home £500-700 a month more than I did at EasyJet.

I feel great, I've got my life back with plenty of time to socialise and play sports again, and I get more quality time with my family than I ever did before - this even though I will be away from home maybe 10 days a month.

I don't wish anything bad on EZY as it was a fun company to work for with a relaxed flight deck and good team atmosphere. But if you can't see how seriously they are killing you and there is no light at the end of the tunnel, then get the hell out of there! Plenty have now seen the light, and before you knock the TRSS guys too much, bear in mind that most of them are trying to get out soon as well!

Even if my outfit goes bust (unlikely, but always possible!) - well, better to have lived and lost than never to have lived at all. And that is it in a nutshell - EZY offers no life at all.

I agree with you that little is likely to happen until market forces make management move. Whinging aircrew without a united voice carry little weight or credibility. (No matter how valid the whinges!)

The problem for any management is knowing how long to leave it ... the lack of "right to lefts" and the "lets put commanders in the RHS" mentality displays severe system weaknesses which even the most committed company man must acknowledge.

If any sort of expansion is planned (mandated if a company is to succeed) then any delay implimenting improvements may be terminal. No training system can cope indefinitely with haemorrhaging, right to left upgrade requirements, and the large scale ab-initio training required for expansion (and thats not to mention normal recurrent training needs.)

I believe market forces are already here and pressing very hard - despite loud noises to the contrary!

So do I, which would explain the amount of people leaving. The recruiters at Ryanair recognise this also, that is why the fee for simulaltor assessments and reading/processing of CV 's has been dropped and why (if the rumour is correct) they are considering a "Golden handshake" and the possibility of 5 on/4 off. They know when times are tough they can do what they like, but that this attitude won't stand up when the pilot market is bouyant, like now.

You Gimboid! You hit the nail on the head! Pity other people do not realise that life outside of Ezy is amazing!

I think the scales have now tipped in favour of pilots. We are professional and have invested alot in our careers. We should stop airlines such as Ezy and Ryan from treating us like .... and working us to the limits! I was and I left! I have done more hours per year with my new company than at Ezy and have so much more time off. Four flights this month, they have luckily just cancelled my CUN.

If CC's cannot be bullish in this market with a marked shortage of pilots in the industry, they never will be. Take the bull by the horns and go for it.

I feel sorry for the existing work force at Easy as they will have to work their nuts off as pilots jump ship or leave for greener grass.

Constant Speed, Gimboid and all other BA-Virgin aviators and 5-2-5-4 haters,

you are comparing apples with oranges. You are flying long haul now, you have some very amusing time at the pool side and a lot of time at home. You can't compare long and short haul. Long haul life style has always more off time, while you have to fight with jet lag and enjoy/hate night stops.

Short haul is flying every day, like going to the office, and being (normally) at home in the evening. While I agree that long haul has its advantages, you cannot compare it. But not everyone has the chance to be accepted by BA-Virgin. Nor does he like to be a servant FO for another decade.

A 5-2-5-4 pattern is a very acceptable working pattern. A lot of major airlines use a 6-3 or 5-3 sequence. This is absolutly normal for a short haul operation. I don't know anything about the other problems people have with Easy's management, but also this seems perfectly common in the industry ;)

The problem is Dani that you are also comparing apples with oranges by comparing EZY to a major.

The issue is that EZY likes to present itself to the outside world as a ´happy family´ and a career airline (like BA and Virgin) but that nobody will last an entire career due to fatigue.

Major (despite using a simular 5-3 or 6-3 roster) do not constantly use their flight crew to the maximum, where as EZY have no problem scheduling you with minimum rest and maximum flight duties/block hours month after month.

Beg to differ, a mate at BA LGW shorthaul (737) is on a rolling 880 hours at the moment. Works hard than I do! They too are using 900 hours as the norm.

However they still seem to cram in 6 weeks leave! So if they can do it then why can't we?

My only hope is that winters and webster are leaving (aka the stumbling block) and the new boy seems to be more of a people person who might do things differently.

The thing most people are forgetting is that the only bases that really have a sheit lifestyle are them around the London area.
Most other boys seem to be reasonably happy.......
Yes there is the odd complaint left right and centre but definitely not enough to look for pastures greener.

And about the 900hrs, we could do 4/4 in LTN but it would NEVER sell in places where the route structure is less varied and or average sector length is less. Hence the Scottish bases are shafted doing 6 sector days....
So unless they start doing a roster that works per base things won't change. easy is too big now with such a wide variety of bases that you have to start differentiating.

I still really feel that the way management communicates within the company is very poor indeed and a culture is being created of the people vs. the company.

Jumping the orange ship has apparently given you so much free time that you now find yourself spending all this excess time on pprunu slagging off your former cpy. Why not try to get a real life, find a hobby or go and play golf and just be your happy self at your present cpy.
I joined easyjet just after losing my former job because of 9-11. Easy were the only one giving me a chance at that time where Air2k, JMC (at that time), Virgin etc were only kicking people out.
Being based in EDI, LGW and now DTM I've always been happy at Easy. Sure there is room for improvement but name me a cpy where there is't.

No nedd to get shirty! I too was made redundant by 9/11 and lost my job and went to Ezy (we were probably on the same type rating course - STOPPPP).

What is your point? I am writing about my experiences etc. and giving honest advice to people who want it. I now do not care about Ezy anymore. I enjoyed the flying but not the stuff that went with it. I was merely stating facts about my easy experience which I did not rate. Are you still waiting for your AMS base that you were promised in your interview? Probably - still waiting for them to come good!

By the way I do play golf and I have several other hobbies and still find enough time to write on Pprune. For your information it is pprune not pprunu.

There is some serious room for improvement! Look at how many people leave. It's not just one or two.:ok: (it should be the other finger!)
