Yep, all 'simple' questions, the issue is the time. Anyone could get 25 out of 25 given more time. 25 questions, 12 minutes - you do the maths!

Questions are all basic arithmatic dressed up - a man drills x hole per minute, how many does he drill in an hour. a rectangle has sides ratio 3:2 the circumference is 12 meters, how long is the longest side. a tyre costs 30 quid, you get 12% discount, how much do you pay for 4 tyres. Stuff like that. (these are rough examples, I can't remember the questions I had on the day).
Maths is my thing anyway, so I can't really say how to prepare for these, but I spent time getting my mental arithmetic back up to scratch - some brain training apps on the iphone helped along with just not using a calculator for stuff I would normally use one for.

Sim Share

Hi everyone

Would anyone be interested in splitting a 747 practice sim session during the month of March? I live overseas so have limited dates that I have available but will be as flexible as I can. If you are interested just PM me!

If anyone else has a sim assessment in the first week of April as well let me know!

Many thanks as well for everyone who has posted their advice and experience so far.

Thanks for the info mate!

Anyone knows good books or web pages to practice these kinds of questions?
I bought most of the books mentioned in this thread but only found a limited amount of exercises of this kind!

British Airways Direct Entry Pilots

Looking for advice.

Is this scheme currently running?

If so, do they accept pilots with wide-body experience straight on to the wide-body fleet?

I am currently a First officer at a european main line carrier with a couple of thousand hours wide-body experience looking for a move

Thanks for any info

Coffin Corner 2nd Mar 2011 11:55

I thought the answer would be obvious. If they are recruiting for their wide body fleet then you have a chance, if they are recruiting for their short haul fleet then you're not going to get direct entry onto their wide body fleet.

All you can do is apply for whatever BA are sending out recruitment for at the time. My understanding is that recruitment for DEP is closed for the time being.

newspaper 2nd Mar 2011 12:07

Thanks for the reply

Was just wondering as on their website it is not very clear what the requirements are and what kind of pilots they're looking for

Anyone else got any other info?

no sponsor 2nd Mar 2011 12:34

Recruitment only onto short haul/medium haul fleets: 737 at LGW, A320 and B767 at LHR. Recruitment onto these fleets requires that you are already type-rated on one of these aircraft types with experience of flying the type.

No direct recruitment onto any other fleets, i.e. none onto the 744 or 777. There are vacancies on those fleets, but being filled by internal transfers at the moment.

I understand the recruitment engine via the BA careers website will open again once the current backlog of applicants has been processed. I don't know when as there were many thousands of applicants in the few days the scheme was opened back in October, and it will take some time to get through all those that applied.

Only 80 confirmed spaces available, all starting post April 2011 (BA's next financial year). Rumour at the selection centre of a further 60 places, but not confirmed.

You can register on the BA careers web site for updates when new positions become available via email, although this site seems to be ahead of the game with quite accurate info of when it will re-open.

Also, all the info you need is in the big BA recruitment thread.

All correct, except not onto the B767 as far as I'm aware.

VJW 2nd Mar 2011 14:10

I know a lad currently on 757 who's joining them on the 767 in the coming months. He's on prune, and may confirm when he sees this.

BA DEP Sim Session Swap

Sadly the date I'd picked for my BA Sim has now appeared on my roster, and it's not a duty I can get out of. Therefore I am looking for anyone who has a sim slot in late March or early-to-mid April to swap with.

Please PM me if you can help, or if you yourself have been looking for a swap!

speedy688 3rd Mar 2011 17:36

Has anyone who has got all the way through selection had the phone call in the last 2 or 3 weeks offering a start date and fleet? Seems to have gone awfully quiet in the holdpool.

massiveheed 4th Mar 2011 07:36

Speedy I waited 4 weeks between getting the congratulations and a start date. I got called the other day. Don't sweat it. Ps it was frustrating waiting I agree but I think they are pretty swamped with stuff to do. Start date was end of June by the way.

speedy688 4th Mar 2011 09:27

Ah, ok. Thanks for the reply. Only a week has past so plenty of time yet.

benjamin1981 6th Mar 2011 06:52

I'm currently 757 with a UK operator and starting mid May on the 76 as are a few of my colleagues

Wirbelsturm 6th Mar 2011 19:00

777 and the 747 are over subscribed by internal transfers so, unless everyone gets type frozen very rapidly!, not much opportunity to get DEP on those.

Perhaps after the 787 and the A380 transfers start the 777 and the 744 will be a little more open to DEP's but you will be very, very junior!

Juan Tugoh 7th Mar 2011 20:02

BA will be recruiting, it is estimated, some 20-30 DEPs onto the 744 this year. This news has just been announced by BALPA. This is due to running out of internally unfrozen applicants. So some good news for those hoping for long haul.

brit bus driver 7th Mar 2011 21:35

Juan speaks the truth.....not so good for us frozen types with previous wide-body experience....hey-ho.

Full Left Rudder 7th Mar 2011 21:49

Does anyone know if the recruitment onto the 744 is likely to come from guys already in the recruitment system pending interviews and sims, or will there be another recruitment drive for those slots?

strikemaster82 8th Mar 2011 01:22

The impression we have been given is that they will be new to the system, but I expect someone more in the know will correct me if I'm wrong...

Good luck to all, it's a great fleet to be on, even at the bottom...

VJW 8th Mar 2011 09:01

Hey what is meant by Frozen types- I'm guessing it's BA employees who've not completed x amount of time on the type they're currently on at BA?

Sounds very harsh, to let a DEP come in and take a job they might like for this. Timing is everything it seems.
