I think the terminology has got in the way here. We probably have recruited all the 140 pilots needed this year so the next hiring drive will be in the new year. Less than 50 DEPs have started so far so courses will continue to run for the next few months........

Does a place in the Hold Pool count as having been "recruited"?
The question is, are those in the hold-pool who are waiting for a course date part of the 140? Or is it a case of all 140 this time around have either finished, started or been allocated courses already, and everyone else in the pool will have to wait till next year?

How long ago was the last time anyone was offered a start date?
I really do hope there are courses still to come, this waiting really isn't that pleasant! |

I was given a start date of Aug 2nd back in early March. I have a feeling that this is one of the last courses scheduled - I know guys who went through the process soon after me who are still in the pool. I'm airbus by the way.

Not correct - a mate of mine got mid September on the Jumbo. He was 767 rated.
He found out 2-3 weeks ago. |
Ah - Ok, I stand corrected! perhaps my comment was more accurate for airbus folk going onto the airbus at BA?? Anyone got more recent start dates on the bus?

Hi - yeah perhaps. I heard no more Bus courses until January, but Jumbo courses Sept/Oct/Nov.

At the stage 1 assessment recently it was mentioned that some high houred airbus type rated guys were going onto the jumbo....I forgot to ask at that point but does anyone know what sort of experience and hours BA consider to be high enough to go onto the 747 if not already on type?

Has the 'no more Airbus courses until January' rumour come from within BA? Airbus rated (low hours) people I know who are in the holding pool and have spoken to recruitment very recently have simply been told that they will be advised of a course date in due course, and that there is no further information at this time. There has been nothing mentioned about it being as far away as the new year.

Airbus course information came from BA - but is 2 months out of date. As we all know, these things change on a dime.

BA received only single digit applications from pilots with a 747 rating, so there will be circa 30 places on the 747 for non type rated pilots. Courses are running from July.
Airbus courses are constrained by a lack of training capacity, but there are courses running every month. Not sure how many have been filled already. |
Fruitbat, are you aware if there are still places to be allocated on courses for the 744? Or are those 30 places already allocated? I know of only non rated on courses in Sept.

Whilst you are correct Tandem, to put it another way there are plenty of internal bids for the 747 but many are still within their 5 year engagement freeze.
BA may decide to unfreeze some, but in many ways it is cheaper to recruit a DEP onto the 747 and maintain the freezes. Rumours of yet more 747's returning from the desert, so the number required may well increase... |

Once an arrival schedule for the 787 is finalised, BA will be absolutely desperate for 777 drivers.
