If a mere passenger (nothing so flash as SLF or PAX!) might enquire? - a couple of anecdotes above about pilots living in dire domestic circumstances raises, with me, a possible welfare issue which could, in extremis, have safety implications and which their employers should address by support (assuming they become aware)? Maybe they already do, which, to me anyway, would be a relief!

Crime - he requested rosters to plan his last two flights with myself and another Brit - I flew the penultimate one to Atlanta in the late 80s where we were met with a water arch from the airfield fire tenders. The station staff were invited to a restaurant to celebrate his career along with his wife who had been part of the station staff - young enough to be his daughter. My next trip I discovered he hadn’t paid the bill which had to be settled by the staff. Retired with a tax free sum of around 3 million francs plus whatever he had accrued on more than a quarter a million salary.
Has left a very rich widow..probably in his native country of Australia.
Pretty thing too - met her at a leaving do in Zurich for another ex hamster who was off to Cathay..couldn’t even put 20 francs into the booze kitty, I had a beer shampoo as asked him if she was his daughter or granddaughter.
