60hrs in 7 Consecutive Days

Looking for people’s interpretation of ‘60 duty hours in any consecutive days’.

EASA (my licence) doesn’t define the beginning and end of a consecutive day so it can be seen as a calendar day.

There is an ALPA document which states “A flightcrew member may not exceed 60 FDP duty hours in any 168 “rolling’ consecutive hours (7 days)”.

Our place uses calendar days which often means that you go over the 60 hours in 168 rolling hours if a duty period rolls over midnight on the last day as the first day of the 7 days rolls off.

Seems a strange and vague rule given that 168 hours is specified between the end of one weekly rest and the start of the next.

Interested to hear how other places, especially EASA ones, interpret and implement this part of FTLs.

Thanks

The alpa document you’re looking at would be referring to part 117 of FAA regulations, and not necessarily applicable to your NAA.

https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-1...part-117?toc=1

Part 117 spells out the number of hours defining the week, month etc.
